If you see this place, you're about to face one of most incredible experiences of your life, or may be you just completed it. This is the little temple at the top of the Tanglangla Pass, at 5380mt over the sea level, the second highest pass in the world. Here ends, or begins, the Leh-Manali highway, one of the most dangerous roads in the world and something that you will remember for your whole life, same as the small mantra flags which eternally pray in the wind.

Aragac (Արագած) - the highest peak of Armenia's current borders. The height of the peak is 4095 meters above sea level.
Aragac is the pinnacle of volcanic origin. It is visible from afar as a prominent mountain range. The massif consists of four main peaks: the highest North (4095 m asl). They surround the crater measuring 1.5 to 2 km deep about 400 m.
The outer walls of the massif fall generally mild, while the inner walls surrounding the volcanic crater are steep. Sam crater is now filled with snow and ice.

Etna to obecnie najwyższy i największy w Europie stożek wulkaniczny (145 km obwodu u podnóża).
The highest point in the community is the summit of the 988-meter-high Hohe Peißenberg. Because of its overwhelming panoramic view, it is also called the “Bavarian Rigi” or, much less often, “mons parnanssus”. It is considered the most beautiful panoramic mountain in Bavaria and is a popular destination. The mountain's early nicknames were "mons doctus" because of its scholarship and meteorological research. The majority of the inhabitants live on the south side of the mountain, another smaller part is on the west side (districts: Hetten and Buchschorn), a small proportion of the inhabitants is on the north and east sides.
The main town is on the left bank of the Ammer River. The Ammer flows through the Ammer Gorge below the south side of the village.

Just thought I'd let you know that the BBC has published an article on my photography on their "Get Creative" arts magazine website. They chose the image above as one to spotlight, I originally posted it a long time ago, so I thought I'd use this as an excuse to resurrect it again.
The Article: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5wWbzZZ93H73HkkHhTl8Yp3...
This was my first ever attempt at macro photography.
For those of you who think the bug was dead, here's the next photo when it wandered off during the exposure:
It is the third highest mountain in Brazil, situated on the border of Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais states. It is the highest point in both states. It was historically considered the highest mountain in Brazil until 1965, when Pico da Neblina and Pico 31 de Março, next to the Venezuelan border, were explored, measured, and both found to be higher. The peak is said to have been so named after Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil, ordered a flag to be flown on top of it.
It is one of the major attractions of Caparaó National Park, accessible from the nearby town of Alto Caparaó. That town and the entrance to the park lie in Minas Gerais, but the summit of Pico da Bandeira lies in Espírito Santo.
The summit is accessible to hikers of most age groups, with only very limited fitness requirements. The track from the park entrance to the summit track [8 km (5.0 mi)] can be driven by most vehicles, and the summit track itself runs for approximately 9 km (5.6 mi), with a further 1,000 m (3,280 ft) climb.

The sequence of the highest mountains in Brazil:
#1: Pico da Neblina (2,993.80 m / 9,822 ft), Venezuela/Brazil;
#2: March 31 Peak (2,972.70 m / 9,816 ft), Venezuela/Brazil;
#3: Pico da Bandeira (2,892 m / 9,488 ft), Brazil;
#4: Pico do Calçado* (2,849 m / 9,347 ft), Brazil;
#6: Pico do Cristal (2,769.80 m / 9,084 ft), Brazil;
The difference from the third highest to the first is only 101.80 meters / 334 ft in altitude.
I climbed the third, fourth and sixth in Brazil this weekend. Only the sixth mountain is challenging.
* For reasons of topographical prominence, the IBGE considers Pico do Calçado a secondary peak of Pico da Bandeira and not a separate mountain.
The Cristal peak is the sixth highest peak in Brazil, with 2,769.05 meters of altitude, according to the measurement made by the IBGE and the Military Institute of Engineering, through the Pontos Culminantes do Brasil Project, and revised by the IBGE through a new mapping of the geoid of the Brazilian territory in 2016.
It is located in the Serra do Caparaó, within the Caparaó National Park, in the municipality of Alto Caparaó, State of Minas Gerais, at 20º 26' 37" south latitude and 41º 48' 42" west longitude. A measurement on Google Earth shows the border of Espírito Santo just 930 meters east of Pico do Cristal, and Pico da Bandeira, the third highest mountain in Brazil and the highest in the Southeast Region, at 1,940 meters to the northeast. The two peaks are visible from each other.
Pico do Cristal is the highest mountain located entirely within the territory of Minas Gerais, as the other highest peaks in the state are on the border with Espírito Santo (Pico da Bandeira), São Paulo (Pedra da Mina) or Rio de Janeiro. January (Agulhas Negras peak).
Until recently, the peak of Cristal was considered the fourth highest mountain in Brazil, with 2,798 meters. Later, another measurement pointed to the summit of the peak at 2,780 meters. More recently, within the scope of the Pontos Culminantes do Brasil Project, where more precise technology was used, the IBGE confirmed the summit of the peak at 2,769.76 meters, which places Pico do Cristal as the sixth highest mountain in the country. In 2016, the IBGE revised the altitudes of the highest points in Brazil, based on the geoid mapping of the Brazilian territory, and confirmed the altitude of Pico do Cristal as being 2,769.05 meters.
The peak of Cristal is a massive point that has this denomination due to its abundant rock formations of quartz, in which it presents landscapes of extreme beauty, being considered by some the most impressive place than the peak of the Flag, where the vegetation is formed basically by bromeliads and lilies on rocky outcrops, the site being part of the highest altitude zone of the park.
For those departing from the Tronqueira campsite, in Minas Gerais, the trail goes up towards Pico da Bandeira, where, close to this, you head south to Pico do Calçado and then west.
For those coming from the Casa Queimada side, you can reach Pico do Cristal by going up the trail to Pico da Bandeira and heading east before climbing Pico do Calçado. From its summit, it is possible to see the imposing Pico da Bandeira, with its characteristic abyss on the Espírito Santo side and softer slopes on the Minas Gerais side.
White stripe above the eye separates it from other chickadees. Otherwise, much like other chickadees: grayish overall with a big head, tiny bill, and black cap and throat. Tends to be in high-elevation mountainous areas with dry, coniferous forests. Active and acrobatic. Often in flocks with nuthatches and kinglets. Visits feeders. (eBird)

Aconcagua is the highest mountain outside Asia at 6,961 meters (22,841 feet) above sea level and by extension the highest point in both the Western Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. It is located in the Andes, in the province of Mendoza, Argentina, and It is situated 112 kilometers northwest of its capital city, Mendoza. The summit is also located about 5 km from San Juan Province and 15 km from the international border with Chile;
It is one of the Seven Summits.
***
The origin of the name is contested; it is either from the Mapudungun Aconca-Hue, which refers to the Aconcagua River and means "comes from the other side", the Quechua Ackon Cahuak, meaning "'Sentinel of Stone", the Quechua Anco Cahuac, meaning "White Sentinel", or the Aymara Janq'u Q'awa, meaning "White Ravine".
Peaks have always been my magnet, my prime objective. I've been blessed to see and experience many iconic peaks with their beautiful ecosystems around them. The main target of my 2015 trip to the Last Frontier was to see the highest peak on the continent. For 6 days in the park it was shrouded in clouds, which isn't unusual as it creates it's own weather system. Fortunately I was finally rewarded with several days of it standing tall and magnificent, like this. I was awestruck.
"The Koyukon Athabaskans and other local tribes who inhabit the area around the mountain have for centuries referred to the peak as Dinale or Denali. The name is based on a Koyukon word for "high" or "tall." That it is!
Thanks for taking a peek!
Have a wonderful Friday and weekend!

The Cathedral of the Reception of the Virgin Mary is (according to its capacity) the largest, but not the highest church in Austria]. According to a widespread but unaccounted for legend, the originally planned height was not granted because in Austria-Hungary no building was allowed to be higher than the southern tower of St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna. At 134.8 m (remeasured in 2018: 134.69 m from the top edge of the terrain, or 133.53 m from the top edge of the floor), the tower of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Linz is about two meters lower than that of St. Stephen's Cathedral. The outer structure is 130 m long, the main ridge height is 44 m on the outside, the width of the nave is 27.5 m, the central nave 13.5 m and the transept 60 m. The floor area is 5,170 m², the sum of the covered roof areas 7,120 m². Sandstone from Altlengbach in Lower Austria, granite from Upper Austria for columns and cornices and conglomerate from Kremsmünster for the crypt are used. Altogether the cathedral (with the crypt) has 142 windows, 54 columns and 17 altars.
Remarkable are the stained glass windows. The most famous is probably the so-called Linz Window, which shows representations from the history of Linz. The windows also show the pictures of various sponsors of the church building. The key to the new cathedral was created by steel cutter Michael Blümelhuber.

A happy couple at the summit of the rock at Haytor. They were brave to stand upright as it there was quite a blustery wind up there, however they didn't stay long, just enough to enjoy the panoramic views of Dartmoor before descending back to terra firma.
