Mullaghcleevaun Mountain is the second highest mountain in Co. Wicklow and is 849m high. The name in Irish means "the summit of the cradle" and Cleevaun Loch is a wonderful small jewel of a lake on its eastern slope.
Pollaphuca reservoir with Black and Sorrel hills can be seen in the distance and on a clear day, the Hills of Wales are visible but Ive been caught in the rain up there on my last two visits and had to abandon the trip.
Tragedy occurred there in the 70s when a group of young men drowned while swimming in the lake and there is a monument on the cliff side to their memory. It can be a dangerous place.
The mountain is best accessed from the military [ R115 ] road across the shoulder of Carrigshouk, over Mullghcleevaun East Top [795m] and along the ridge to the main mountain itself. Its about 10km round trip but its difficult, or at least I found it so.
Its a great place to find pieces of white quartz which are very visible protruding from the dark brown peat. You can see it in the foreground where the lake overflows . I always take some home as its a pretty stone. Within 5 minutes of taking this pic, the cloud came down and the rain started. Visibility went down to 10m so I beat a hasty retreat back to the car which took about one hour.
Its a wild rugged beautiful place and very peaceful. Its highly unlikely that you will meet anyone up there as there not all quite as mad as me!!!!! There are some lovely big granite rocks along the way where you can sit and take in the spectacle and eat your sandwiches which will taste better than anything else you have ever eaten!! I can never figure out why! Lol!
Hope you will like my photo and fave if you do.

Aragac (Արագած) - the highest peak of Armenia's current borders. The height of the peak is 4095 meters above sea level.
Aragac is the pinnacle of volcanic origin. It is visible from afar as a prominent mountain range. The massif consists of four main peaks: the highest North (4095 m asl). They surround the crater measuring 1.5 to 2 km deep about 400 m.
The outer walls of the massif fall generally mild, while the inner walls surrounding the volcanic crater are steep. Sam crater is now filled with snow and ice.

The highest point in the community is the summit of the 988-meter-high Hohe Peißenberg. Because of its overwhelming panoramic view, it is also called the “Bavarian Rigi” or, much less often, “mons parnanssus”. It is considered the most beautiful panoramic mountain in Bavaria and is a popular destination. The mountain's early nicknames were "mons doctus" because of its scholarship and meteorological research. The majority of the inhabitants live on the south side of the mountain, another smaller part is on the west side (districts: Hetten and Buchschorn), a small proportion of the inhabitants is on the north and east sides.
The main town is on the left bank of the Ammer River. The Ammer flows through the Ammer Gorge below the south side of the village.

Just thought I'd let you know that the BBC has published an article on my photography on their "Get Creative" arts magazine website. They chose the image above as one to spotlight, I originally posted it a long time ago, so I thought I'd use this as an excuse to resurrect it again.
The Article: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5wWbzZZ93H73HkkHhTl8Yp3...
This was my first ever attempt at macro photography.
For those of you who think the bug was dead, here's the next photo when it wandered off during the exposure:
It is the third highest mountain in Brazil, situated on the border of Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais states. It is the highest point in both states. It was historically considered the highest mountain in Brazil until 1965, when Pico da Neblina and Pico 31 de Março, next to the Venezuelan border, were explored, measured, and both found to be higher. The peak is said to have been so named after Pedro II, Emperor of Brazil, ordered a flag to be flown on top of it.
It is one of the major attractions of Caparaó National Park, accessible from the nearby town of Alto Caparaó. That town and the entrance to the park lie in Minas Gerais, but the summit of Pico da Bandeira lies in Espírito Santo.
The summit is accessible to hikers of most age groups, with only very limited fitness requirements. The track from the park entrance to the summit track [8 km (5.0 mi)] can be driven by most vehicles, and the summit track itself runs for approximately 9 km (5.6 mi), with a further 1,000 m (3,280 ft) climb.

The sequence of the highest mountains in Brazil:
#1: Pico da Neblina (2,993.80 m / 9,822 ft), Venezuela/Brazil;
#2: March 31 Peak (2,972.70 m / 9,816 ft), Venezuela/Brazil;
#3: Pico da Bandeira (2,892 m / 9,488 ft), Brazil;
#4: Pico do Calçado* (2,849 m / 9,347 ft), Brazil;
#6: Pico do Cristal (2,769.80 m / 9,084 ft), Brazil;
The difference from the third highest to the first is only 101.80 meters / 334 ft in altitude.
I climbed the third, fourth and sixth in Brazil this weekend. Only the sixth mountain is challenging.
* For reasons of topographical prominence, the IBGE considers Pico do Calçado a secondary peak of Pico da Bandeira and not a separate mountain.

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice --
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
"Mend my life!"
each voice cried.
But you didn't stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do --
determined to save
the only life you could save.

The highest point of this volcano and I feel so fine.
Elevation: 5,604 meters (18,386 ft) above sea level.
13th. highest elevation around San Pedro de Atacama, Chile.

***Aconcagua with a summit elevation of 6,960.8 metres (22,837 ft), is the highest mountain in both the Southern and Western Hemispheres. It is located in the Andes mountain range, in the Mendoza Province, Argentina, and lies 112 km (70 mi) northwest of its capital, the city of Mendoza, about five km (3.1 mi) from San Juan Province and 15 km (9.3 mi) from the international border with Chile. The mountain itself lies entirely within Argentina, immediately east of Argentina's border with Chile. Its nearest higher neighbor is Tirich Mir in the Hindu Kush, 16,520 kilometres (10,270 mi) away. It is one of the Seven Summits.
The Krimml Waterfalls (German: Krimmler Wasserfälle), with a total height of 380 metres (1,247 feet), are the highest waterfall in Austria.[1] The falls are on the Krimmler Ache river and are located near the village of Krimml in the High Tauern National Park in Salzburg state.
Krimmler Waterfalls is a tiered waterfall. The waterfall begins at the top of the Krimmler Ache valley, and plunges downward in three stages. The upper stage has a drop of 140 metres, the middle of 100 metres, and the lowest a drop of 140 metres. The highest point of the waterfall is 1,470 metres above sea level.
The Krimmler Ache is a glacial stream whose flow varies greatly with season. Its volumetric flow in June and July is 20,000 m³/h (about 5.28 million gallons per hour), while in February it is only 500 m³/h (about 0.13 million gallons per hour). The greatest measured flow was on 25 August 1987, when it was 600,000 m³/h, or almost 160 million gallons per hour.
After the falls, the river joins the Salzach, which flows to the Inn, then into the River Danube and finally to the Black Sea.
To ensure that tourists could see more of the waterfall without difficulty, Ignaz von Kürsinger, from Mittersill, created a path to the upper part of the waterfall. In 1879, the Austrian Alpine Club improved the road to provide a more panoramic view. About 400,000 people visit the falls annually. The misty spray of the waterfall creates ideal growth condition for hundreds of mosses, lichens and ferns. The surroundings are the habitat for 62 bird species.[3]
There is a negative impact on the local residents due to the high traffic level in a small village, and because of erosion to the road.

The highest mountain in the old county of Argyll, Bidean nam Bian is the whole majestic range of mountains on the south side of Glen Coe. It's dramatic northern ridges are known as the Three Sisters, whilst the highest summits of the group are hidden away behind.
TERRAIN
Steep, rocky and complex terrain. There are well-worn paths for much of the route (indistinct for route up Stob Coire nan Lochan) but the terrain is very rocky and there are sections of steep scree and very mild scrambling. The descent from Bealach Dearg is initially very steep and loose. It usually holds snow until well into summer, making it even more difficult - be prepared for this or save this route for when the snow is gone

The highest point in Idaho at 12,662’/ 3859 m, Borah Peak (left) is unique in being primarily composed of limestone (most of the gray rock seen here) that was deposited at the bottom of an ocean 420 million years ago. The slightly younger reddish siltstones on the right side form some wonderful banded strata below the summit of Sacajawea Peak.
Also notable is the light colored band at the base of the mountain seen at the bottom of the picture. I initially assumed this was a road or a trail, but it’s a remnant of a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that hit the area in 1983, the largest quake ever recorded in Idaho. The valley side of the fault dropped as much as 9’/ 2.7 m and the mountain side rose by as much as 3’ / 1 m, leaving a notable fault scarp 21 miles/ 34 km long.

The Wrangell Mountains are almost entirely volcanic in origin, and they include the second and third highest volcanoes in the United States, Mount Blackburn and Mount Sanford. The range takes its name from Mount Wrangell, which is one of the largest andesite shield volcanoes in the world, and also the only presently active volcano in the range."
