The tiny trail in the distance is actually the "White Rim Road", part of a 100 mile (160km) four wheel drive road that loops around below the Island in the Sky section of Canyonlands National Park.

Green herons live along forested water margins. Their general distribution is limited by the availability of wetlands. They frequent both salt and fresh water, showing great flexibility in habitat choice. Favored habitats are mangrove-lined shores and estuaries, and dense, woody vegetation fringing ponds, rivers and lakes.

A lovely serene section of the Black River as we launched our kayaks... no warning of the numerous rapids ahead.
The green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas), also known as the green turtle, black (sea) turtle or Pacific green turtle, is a species of large sea turtle of the family Cheloniidae. It is the only species in the genus Chelonia. Its range extends throughout tropical and subtropical seas around the world, with two distinct populations in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, but it is also found in the Indian Ocean. The common name refers to the usually green fat found beneath its carapace, not to the color of its carapace, which is olive to black.
My first attempts with underwater photography...a complete different setup and approach. Very challenging for me ;-) This green turtle i captured in a bay while snorkeling, Puerto Escondido, Mexico
