This little guy thought he can pick up the big leaf and use it as nesting material. He was so cute trying... Needless to say, he never made it off the ground and left quite disappointed.

For the last few weeks, I've had adult starlings visiting my suet feeders so I knew they had a nest somewhere nearby. The young apparently fledged recently and now the parents are bringing the very noisy, demanding youngsters to our yard during the day. Took a little patience and stealth to get this shot as they youngsters are very skittish and fly at the slightest movement.

This crab spider already had lunch, but legs were poised ready to grab any other insect that might have come too close! That pollen beetle had better stay hidden!

I put some suet pellets and sunflower seed hearts out to attract nutchatches and other small birds. However, magpies scared away the smaller birds and golloped it all up! Here's an example filling its beak.

There's always one in every crowd, even in the critter world! Once this treasure-trove of mixed nut was poured on our steppingstone, I watched squirrel after squirrel run up, grab a nut, and then race off to bury it. Over and over.
But then suddenly this little greedy gut showed up and was trying to cram as many nuts into his mouth as possible! He might have had more success if he's stuck with the smaller nuts, but guess that walnut just looked too tempting!
