even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise

Eleven-image composite panorama of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad crossing remains. The stone pylon in the foreground is the remains of the 1851 Bollman Bridge. This bridge carried the train line when Brown raided the arsenal in 1859, an his men allowed a train to leave town. The train crossed this bridge, reached Washington, D.C., and alerted the federal authorities, thus precipitating Brown's fall. The bridge pylons at far right were another bridge. The Patomac (and Maryland) are on the left, the Shenandoan (and Virginia) are on the right. Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. (Digital illustration by Nathanael Miller, 9 Jan. 2018)

Seen at a distance of nearly 12 miles are the jagged remnants of Little Tahoma Peak on the eastern face of Mount Rainier. Mount Rainier is the highest peak of the Cascade volcanoes, rising 14,411 feet above sea level. It is also considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes in North America. Little Tahoma Peak is actually part of Mount Rainier itself; Little Tahoma Peak is the remnant of a much larger version of Mount Rainier that collapsed several thousand years ago. Little Tahoma Peak rises to 11,138 feet (3,395 meters), and would be Washington State’s third highest mountain if it were structure to itself. Mount Rainier National Park Washington. The Bollman Truss Railroad Bridge across the Little Patuxent River was completed in 1869. It is the only surviving example of the Bollman Truss, and is one of the oldest standing railroad bridges in the United States. Today a foot bridge carrying the Savage Mill Trail, it originally served by carrying a railroad spur to Savage Mill. Savage, Maryland. (Nathanael Miller. 05 May 2018)

Located in Ashwaubenon, just outside of Green Bay, the National Railroad Museum was founded in 1956. Among the rolling stock featured is the Dwight D. Eisenhower, a British LNER Class A4 steam locomotive of the type that pulled IKE's command train during WWII; the engine is attached to two cars that actually were part of IKE's command train. Also featured is one of the biggest steam engine ever built, Union Pacific's Big Boy (an American Locomotive Company 4000-class 4-8-8-4), and the Aerotrain, a failed high-speed train built by General Motors in the mid-1950s.
