USS Texas seen from atop the 567.31-foot-high San Jacinto Monument (the monument commemorates the 1836 Battle of San Jacinto in which Texas won its independence from Mexico). The New York-class battleship USS Texas (BB 35) was in commission from 1914 - 1948. It is one of the few American ships (and only battleship left) that served in both World Wars I and II. This shot is from last Sunday. This place is really beautiful. It’s about a 51/2 mile hike from the trail head just past the town of Gothic. Totally worth it though. Copper lake is a high alpine lake in Copper Basin which sits just around the tree line. Right around 11,300 ft. Just above the lake is the top of East Maroon Pass. From there you can choose to hike 6 miles back to the trail head or hike 7 miles and head towards Aspen. Which also provides some amazing views. The tall mountain you see is White Rock Mountain which comes in at 13,540 ft. I was lucky enough to have the clouds cooperate and for the sun to peak through the way it did. Cheers.
