Glacier National Park, Montana.
A mountain goat looks over the ledge at Hidden Lake in the Logan Pass area of the park. It wears a VHF radio collar (poor goat, in addition to its bad fur-hair day) and is one of several goats selected to participate in a research study to determine the movement of goats and the human-wildlife interactions within the Logan Pass area. The study is in conjunction with the Univ of Montana and is running for 3 years. All hikers are advised to stay at least 25' from the goats.
It was a 1.5 hour drive in the dark to get here at Two Medicine Lake at Glacier National Park for sunrise from our camping spot outside of West Glacier.
As it got closer to sunrise, clouds rolled in and blocked the view of the peak of Sinopah Mountain - but it sure did make for some dramatic light!!
While the alpenglow from first light was pretty impressive, I really enjoyed the light that happened once it fully warmed up and started to kiss the tips of the trees as seen in this photo. What a beautiful morning!

Much of the Trail of the Cedars Nature Trail follows along Avalanche Creek. The creek was full of roaring energy, following a very snowy winter. It was wonderfully loud & chilly along the trail.
Oly E-M10 Live Composite. Pretty much straight out of camera, just a slight crop and a bit of curves.

Glacier visible form the Dawson Pass. The U-shaped valley in the front was carved by glaciers during the most recent ice age, which ended almost 12,000 years ago. The valley was all green few years back, but a wildfire changed all that.
7-26-10 visit to Glacier National Park, Montana. I believe this is St. Mary's Falls just past Logan Pass coming from West Glacier to St. Mary's off the Going to the Sun Road. Brett and I packed a lot into my short visit to the park, so I hope I got the name of the falls right. In any case, it is a nice hike from the GTSR through the woods to this spectacular falls. We set up with the morning sun at our backs and played with different exposures to see what worked. I like this shot the best of the ones I took because it tends to show motion in the water as it rushes over the falls. This was taken late spring this year. Would like to see the size of the rack on this guy now ... assuming, that is, he's managed to survive this long.
There's some nice detail in the original version ... you can even see a strand of saliva in his mouth. :-)
