McDonald's Creek stretches twenty miles to embody some of the most scenic views in Glacier National Park. It cuts through layers of fascinating geology and follows a large portion of "Going to the Sun," one of the most scenic drives in the park. As a main staple for the Kootenai Indians, it brought food, water and provided a gorgeous, natural location for their sacred ceremonies. The crystal clear water's path goes from wide to narrow, rushing to meandering steep canyon waterfalls to wide stepped falls, tumbling over shelves of bright red and green shales.
This was taken a couple of weeks ago. I timed things rather nicely. This same area is now covered with snow and the "Going to the Sun" road is now closed for the season.
The trail up was snow covered and didn't make the hike up here any easier. But, the views from up here are pretty special. You can almost always spot Mountain Goats up here as well.
Apparently, this is the only suitable spot in some distance for a good dust bath. Goats came one by one and took their turn.
After getting squared away at the motel in Columbia Falls, we headed into Glacier National Park for some mid-afternoon to early evening sightseeing. Our first stop was the beautiful Lake McDonald. One of the sightseeing boats was coming back to the dock as we walked down to the lake.

Another image form our fall trip to Glacier National Park in Montana. This particular day had everything including a wonderful sunrise at Swiftcurrent Lake, a visit to the falls, a short hike to Fishercap lake to photograph Moose and close up of views of a Black Bear on our return trip back over the Going to The Sun Road.

Stunning and beautiful, even when she's nasty ;-)
Over the years, about 25% of the park has been burned by various wildfires. This did not hurt the beauty of the area one bit.
