The gingerbread village is a Christmas tradition at the Henry Ford Museum. The buildings are made from a wide variety of candies and other edible materials (for example, pretzels for log houses) and many are replicas of the buildings in Greenfield Village.

Pioneer Village. Pioneer Village is the reconstruction of a typical frontier community as it might have existed in the late 1800s. This community consists of 42 authentic 19th century stores and buildings and the artifacts with which they may have been furnished. The Village features one of the finest collections of small arms in the country, including guns, slingshots, crossbows, and cannons. The Carriage Hall features almost every type of wheeled conveyance used at the turn-of-the-century.

A Rock Chapel stands at the head of Pioneer Village. Originally constructed in Coalville, Utah in 1853, the building was first used as a fort. It later became a courthouse, a schoolhouse, and a church.

Among the many other treasures in the Village are a one-room schoolhouse, a two-story sawed log house, smokehouse, millinery shop, clock shop, tool museum, hardware store, cobbler shop, co-op, print shop, music hall, gingerbread house, doll museum, and town hall.

Last year a friend of mine had a Christmas party centered around watching the Star Wars Holiday Special. We were all supposed to bring the most awful ornament we could think of, with bonus points for incorporating Star Wars. I made a gingerbread Star Destroyer.

Day one: Gingerbread

So excited to be participating in this self portrait project!!

For today’s word I immediately thought of baking cookies and turning myself into a miniature person covered in flour - a gingerbread person come to life! I almost went with a gingerbread house scene too (alternate version in comments!) but decided less is more.

What do you think? I created this after a full day shift at work and now I’m exhausted, let’s see how I go tomorrow!

Special thanks to Dario for all your help!! And Kelly for letting me borrow your gingerbread house!

After seeing a gingerbread house made on TV,my girlfirend and I decide that it would be a good rainy day project, and being in the UK we aren't short of rainy days, so we build one.

With the roof made from after eight mints, and the house and the shed made from gingerbread, this was an excelent way to start the x-mas season.

I was however very sick of gingerbread after eating most of this over the course of a week. Next time I will have to time it better to have friends of family around.

Each year we go to the Sheraton Hotel downtown Seattle to see the Gingerbread houses designed by local architects and built by local chefs. Quite fun!
