This is one ornament on my little "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree in my kitchen nook area. Gage and Carley made their Gingerbread House the other day - i hope you will look at the little collage below - they had soooo much fun - it was their own creation :)!!!

I made them for the first time this holiday, and since I have experience working with icing (cinnamon stars), I thought I would draw on them quickly and easily. I struggled quite a bit and my first Snowman looked like Casper a Friendly Ghost. Luckily the icing can be easily erased and redrawn. In any case, I am very pleased with the result, especially since they are very tasty, butter, honey and fantastic spices, and I added lemon juice to the egg whites icing so that they are not too sweet.
These cookies were my second choice for the Crazy Tuesday theme. No one wanted to eat them because they were too pretty to be eaten.
These were my first gingerbread cookies. For the next Christmas I will be better prepared, I will buy bigger cutters (these are small 4 cm) so I will have more space for drawing with icing.

The chef and the kitchen crew at the Benson Hotel in Portland, Oregon, put a lot of effort into this 2011 gingerbread creation. This fisheye look just gives a closeup of part of the village.
This picture was created as a family project. The gingerbread house was made by my grand-kids, the bokeh comes from the Christmas tree decorated by my wife and the composition / photo taken by me.

The trick to constructing a gingerbread house is to have a nice tasting recipe and a really good construction icing recipe. Keep the pieces in an airtight container with some kitchen paper until you are ready to build. I prefer not to do any trimming to size hence the rough edges. If you do need to trim you have about 2mins to do it straight out of the oven or do it with a kitchen serrated knife when it’s cooled but place the piece on a tea towel to lessen breakage.
