This rainforest contains several huge Bangalay trees, either dead or senescent. At this site, they were originally identified by the rainforest botanist A.G. Floyd.
April was my lovely model today~Thanks be to April :)
Today was absolutely amazing, but finding neat places to take photos I suppose is always amazing. But I must say, I think we stuck gold and I am quite sure we will return to take photos there again in the future.
For The Future
Planting trees early in spring,
we make a place for birds to sing
in time to come. How do we know?
They are singing here now.
There is no other guarantee
that singing will ever be.

Brutus his throat is getting very solid.
Sequoiadendron giganteum.
He's now 1 year and almost 5 months old. Want to grow a bonsai from him, as I may not put him in the garden (my wife is prohibiting me)... unless someone in the neighbourhood wants to adopt him to let him grow in the wild, I urge you to please do make contact with me ;)
Anyway, I took some cuttings from a few branches, hopefully they push some roots fast so I can have some brothers from Brutus very soon.
I just finished a song about Brutus, The Propagator.

To get to the entrance of Lady Bird Johnson Grove you have to drive a few kilometers of steep slope road with a lush vegetation. At the top there is a small car park where you can leave your car. The trail is easy and accesible, so you can walk calmly while observing the nature around you. As the forest is over 300 meters above sea level, the sequoias are bot as big as in other areas of the park. But in any case the walk through this nice forest is worth the visit.

Is it bad to have 1000's of photos from different trips that you've never even had a chance to look at?? ;)
This was one of my most memorable of the VERY "South African" experiences on my trip from last year. In photojournalistic style- I've uploaded 10 new photos.... I adore The Cape Architecture and anything thatched can win me over.... Vergelegen Winery is spectacular in all ways!... including the food and wine in the dining hall....
History from their website:
Since 1685 and to this day, the Estate has been crafted by some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, who each in their own way have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate.
I hope you like the tour... :)
Cross-section of grove of Sequoias in Seqouia National Park, Ca. These trees are the largest living things on planet earth. They are found only at 5-7k ft in elevation on the western slope of the Sierra Nevadas, and they grow to over 300 ft in hieght. They are nearly totally fireproof, live to be several thousand years old, and generally die only by falling over.

2nd largest kauri
Te Matua Ngahere is a giant kauri (Agathis australis) coniferous tree in the Waipoua Forest of Northland Region, New Zealand. The tree's Māori name means "Father of the Forest". Although not as massive or tall as its neighbour Tāne Mahuta, Te Matua Ngahere is stouter, with a girth just over 16 metres (52 ft). It is believed to be the second largest living kauri tree, and to have the biggest girth of any kauri in the country. According to The New Zealand Herald, it has the biggest girth of any tree in New Zealand. (Wikipedia)

This is among the last shots that appear in the second part of my two part video of the Families Belong Together Rally and March, held on July 21, which began and ended at MacArthur Park. The woman is, I think, a member of AIM, the American Indian Movement. The t-shirts she is selling presumably help to fund their group and their cause.
This was taken after everyone returned from the march. The guy on the left, in the orange cap, must be munching on a burger. It's hard to control the background on shoots like this.
This is a frame capture from HD video using the Canon EOS Rebel T6 camera, with the Canon 18-55mm zoom lens.

This is likely to be the tree we were searching for last week.
The talk is this plant is around 70 metres tall. It's possible, but the top of the tree is out of sight, due to the rainforest canopy blocking the view.
We found another larger tallowwood further up the hill and to the left.
The tallest tree in New South Wales is probably this species.
Tallowwood often grow on rainforest margins, in good soils in high rainfall areas. Because the rainforest trees obscure a view of the top part of the tree, conventional measurement is impossible. The only way is to either chop it down or for the tree to be climbed.
Estimated height, anywhere between 45 and 70 metres tall.
My Scotty and my Lara, at Avenue of the Giants. We forgot to cuddle up to some of the earlier, larger trees, so this was actually one of the smaller ones!
MacMilan Park, or well known as Cathedral Grove, is a protected old grow forest on Vancouver island. Ypu will found around 2.5 km of nice trail and it is in the morning before the opening and the tourist rush, that you will have the park for your self and take awesome pics of one of the last ancient forest in Canada, if it not in North America. Here's the famous General Sherman Tree AKA the largest tree in the world. It's crazy to think that out of the billions of trees in the world, this one is the largest. Crazy.
A grove of five large eucalyptus growing in a subtropical palm rainforest.
There are dozens of similarly huge eucalyptus trees growing out of rainforests in New South Wales. Impossible to measure, as you can't see the tree top. Unless someone climbs the trees (or chops them down).
In this case, there was a gap in the canopy, which allowed a simultaneous view of the base and top of the tree.
in an uncomfortable and eerie stillness of woods ..
