The Redwoods present an imposing image when standing near them. Magnificent woodland residents! Guardians of an ancient forest.
A giant tree with a osprey perched on top at Eagle Lake Park in Largo, Florida.
Can you spot the osprey on the tree?
Overlooked by the mountainous hills yet the dwelling it surrounds successfully shine.

I always liked the view of this farm with a giant Elm tree at the entrance of the lane. I also like how the viewer is drawn into the image by the perspective affect of the lane.
Song of the Redwood Tree by WALT Whitman
"A prophecy and indirection—-a thought impalpable, to breath, as air;
A chorus of dryads, fading, departing—or hamadryads departing;
A murmuring, fateful, giant voice, out of the earth and air,
Voice of a mighty dying tree in the redwood forest dense.
Farewell, my brethren,
Farewell, O earth and sky—farewell, ye neighboring waters;
My time has ended, my term has come".
…… One from the shoreline of Derwent water - drunk a gallon or two from the lake in its time this beauty! Did you know that a mature tree will drink 11,000 gallons of water a year!!! (SEE LINK BELOW) Is that not a good reason to plant more?!? Happy tree Tuesday to all on Flickr, Alan:-) HTMT.…….

Red cedars, Cathedral Grove
Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, Canada
Red cedars were the basis of the First Nations people's way of life in the territories now called British Columbia. They were used for buildings, clothes, baskets, furniture, totem poles, etc.
These magnificent trees are several hundred years old, and probably 50 to 60m tall. They easily reach a diameter of several meters.

Meares Island, near Tofino, British Columbia, is home to some virigin north temperate rainforest containing giant Western red cedar tree, some over 1000 years old. They are challenging to photograph to convey the full size and impact of these giants. The only way to photograph this giant was to get right up near the base of the tree and point the camera (wide angle on a tripod) straight up.

... a giant tree&cars sculpture near Science World, Vancouver, B.C., Canada!
I prefer this composition, it shows you more of the (powerful tree holding the 5 cars) sculpture and its surroundings ((:
Put this image on full-screen to appreciate it!
On my way home the other night I drove right into this sunset behind a gigantic tree, revealing a waxing crescent moon on the horizon. I had to pull over and get a shot of this stunning image.
Southern KY, USA.
Lophostemon confertus (brush box) is an evergreen tree native to Australia. Its natural range is north-east New South Wales and coastal Queensland. Aged at least 1500 years these giant brush box are thought to be relicts of an earlier period in the history of the rainforest in Lamington National Park, Queensland. Current conditions on the dark rainforest floor no longer favour their regeneration.
When I went to Sequoia National Park first time early in July, not all wildflowers were booming. So, two weeks later I went there again. I am glad to see those beautify lupines between the trees.
The Giant Curtain Fig Tree is a heritage listed tree and a must see for anyone who visits the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland.
It is spectacular with the extensive aerial roots, that drop 15 metres to the forest floor, forming a ‘curtain’. "Starting from a seed dropped high in the canopy, this strangler fig grew vertical roots, which gradually became thicker and interwoven. Over hundreds of years these roots have strangled the host causing it to fall into a neighbouring tree-a stage unique to the development of this fig".
The tree is thought to be nearly 50 metres tall, with a trunk circumference of 39 metres, and is estimated to be over 500 years old.
I stood in front of this tree on our honeymoon, 37 years ago so was keen to revisit.
Not all trees are created equal.
This tree sits near a rare Second World War air shelter. It has to be over 200 years old, at a guess I’d say more like double. It’s 4 of me across and over 60 feet tall and this is the crazy part, it’s an Oak tree. #giantoak #gianttree

The living tree.
Wouldn't it be grand, if this were true?? Something that was bigger than all of us, and to make us feel humble again.
So, who would like to walk or drive through?
I captured this picture in an art gallery in Healdsburg, Calif many years ago.
