Sequoia National Park: Three Rivers, Tulare County, California.
At the Parker Group of Giant Sequoias, our showed us to a tree he loves, one that had been split right down the center of its trunk early in its life and managed to grow as one tree split down to the ground. He used the panorama function on some of our camera phones to photograph us on both sides of the tree, at which point I asked if he could try the same thing for me but as a vertical panorama...

One of the first parks we visited on our road trip, was Sequoia National Park, the land where the giant trees grow...
The size of these giants is simply stupefying! And the ones in the picture are not even among the biggest in the park...but at least you can get up close to these ones, for some se-ri-ous tree-hugging ;-)
Double exposure from a single RAW file.

This amazing giant fig is known locally as the Temple Fig although its common name is White Fig in line with other Ficus virens variations.
The tree stands sentinal in a cow paddock at Eungella, just out of Murwillumbah, NSW.
One does wonder that no one has sought to protect this ancient tree. Similarly impressive trees on the Atherton Tableland in North Queensland are protected and are in fact tourist attractions as indeed could this tree be.

I found this giant, years ago, on the Echo River Springs Trail, at Mammoth Cave National Park.
Some call this species a tulip-poplar tree, or a yellow poplar, but it's not a poplar at all; it's more closely related to the magnolia tree. The flowers look like tulips (see photo below).
This ghost gum is said to be about 300 years old, in the East Mc Donnell range of Northern Territory, Australia

Photo taken inside a dead Sequoia tree found in the Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias in the Yosemite National Park. Giant Sequoias are the world's largest single trees and are among the longest-lived tree species.
Standing under one of the giant sequoias. There's ahole under the tree here and you can walk right under it to the other side.
she knew that, perhaps, the world would one day end. fire, brimstone, ash, twisted bodies would be all that is left. on the eve of her twenty-second birthday, she bent down and plucked a weed growing from the ground. cupping it in her hand, she knew that life is the answer to death, and from then on, she would learn to grow, learn to live, and learn to change the world.

You've heard the philosophical question: "If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is around to hear it, did it make a sound?"
My guess is that nobody was around when this giant fell centuries ago but I imagine it made a big sound. And it was likely heard by the birds and beasts who were sole inhabitants of the area back then. IAnd, perhaps, a Native American.)
This tree is estimated to be over 250 feet long, so long that I couldn't get it all in the picture.

From Yosemite National Park, California.....Mariposa Grove.....thank you so much to the brave firemen trying to keep these magnificent trees safe.
Standing tall for over seven centuries, the Bayan Ancient Tree in Bali is a breathtaking symbol of nature’s resilience and grandeur. Located near the village of Gesing in Tabanan, this sacred tree is often mistaken for a eucalyptus due to its massive roots and smooth, towering trunk—but it’s actually a type of Ficus benghalensis, or banyan tree.
Revered by locals and surrounded by spiritual stories, this tree is not only a natural wonder but also a cultural icon. Capturing its full scale from this low angle truly reveals its awe-inspiring height and powerful presence.

A 31-mile scenic drive through old-growth Redwoods in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, Avenue of the Giants is quite fantastic. While we didn't have the opportunity to hike much in this park, the scenic drive was certainly worth it. Single RAW exposure w/ C-PL to remove glare from road and bring out greens. Slight level adjustments in Photoshop CS3. Note: I apologize for the lack of commenting late. I am slowly catching up to all your streams.

Anniversary Trip -
Sequoia National Park established on September 25, 1890, adjacent to Kings Canyon National Park in California.
The park is famous for its giant sequoia trees, including the General Sherman dominating the Giant Forest, by volume, it is the largest known living single stem tree in the world, and is also among the oldest. The General Grant tree is the largest giant sequoia in the General Grant Grove section of Kings Canyon National Park and the awe-inspiring beauty is the third-largest sequoia tree in the world! The National Park Service incorporated the Giant Forest into Sequoia National Park in 1890, the year of its founding, promptly ceasing all logging operations in the Giant Forest.

This tree really impressed me. When I first saw it, I felt just like this friendly Mexican women I met those days, who told me that she had to come back secretly and admire Tane Mahuta, since she somehow felt the need to worship the tree, even though in real life she's not a religious person. I felt the same way.
