This morning, my appointment to get two cortisone injections in my knees has just been cancelled and rescheduled for Monday. With a temperature of -9C (windchill -13C), I wish that meant I didn't need to go out in the cold and clear the snow off my car. However, I have a few errands that I really need to run.
On 17 October 2018, I managed to get over to Carburn Park for a walk. Though I have seen a number of Rusty Blackbirds, this species was still a bird I wanted to look out for. As it turned out, this was not one of my finds. However, I saw a few other things that were a delight to see, including meeting two Ferrets that were out for a walk (or rather, travelling in a stroller) with their 'people". Both are rescue animals, which was good to see.
"Ferret Rescue & Education Society (FRES) is a non-profit, charitable organization that was started by a group of devoted ferret owners in the Calgary area who recognized the need for a locally based rescue dedicated to ferrets. Our committed volunteers assist FRES in their goal to find permanent homes for all of the ferrets surrendered to us. They also provide shelter, basic needs, veterinary care, and if necessary, rehabilitation for all abused, unwanted, and abandoned ferrets regardless of their health status." From the FRES website.
Another lovely encounter was with the resident Great Horned Owl. Two friends that I bumped into in the park described where they had just seen it. Two or three strangers also helped pinpoint the exact tree : ) Over the years, we have seen Great Horned Owls in this park - always a joy. On this particular day, this owl was rather agitated and moved two or three times. One of the park's Eastern Gray Squirrels was teasing the owl.
As if a couple of 'rescue' Ferrets and a Great Horned Owl weren't enough, we were also very lucky to see a Harlequin Duck (male) out on the Bow River. When we first saw it, it wasn't too far out on the water, but it gradually swam further and further away, diving constantly. My photos were not the greatest, but they serve as a record of seeing this very handsome duck.
The weather was gorgeous, and much-deserved after the dreadful winter weather we have been having (in fall)! A perfect day to be outdoors, so I just couldn't resist. Lovely to see you, Pam, though unfortunate that you were just leaving when I arrived. Great to see you, Bonnie, and spend time with you. Had been a long time, no see.

A keeper of the Amanoiwato Shrine makes a little jump on her geta, the traditional Japanese wooden footwear, rushing to get out of the frame. The shrine is built near the cave where according to legend the Sun Goddess Amaterasu hid herself away, after her brother Susano-o, the Storm God, destroyed her rice fields.
Two pluses to getting older
1. I care less what others think so I am more comfortable with my femside.
2. More breast tissue! Not all would agree with this but I have chosen to enjoy it! As they say grow a pair.😄
Every now and then, you need some. Whatever that "some" is, go get it.

It was getting late and we were tired after driving from Gaspe all day. A small park on Rue William Tremblay in the city of Levis, provided a good view of old Quebec and we hoped for a nice sunset to highlight this historic place. A quick look westward at the approaching rain ended that idea - it was time to turn in for the night.
From the wedding ceremony of Thea Marie and Markus this past summer.
We share the same niece and nephew, and it was a big bonus that photographing their wedding included seeing my little hearts in their adorable outfits, and listening to my sister and her husband (the bride's brother) perform.
All my best wishes for a long and great future together!
I have more photos from their ceremony in the links below the line.

Mature Great Green Macaw, along with a good number of his group and a small flock of Scarlet Macaws, turn up quite regularly at the farm of a family where they can get a bit of a feed and meet some tourists.
Hastings Diesels Limited superbly restored 'Hastings Unit' No. 1001 arrives in platform 4 at South Croydon to pick up passengers, some of whom can be seen getting photos, en route from Tonbridge to Warminster. The purpose of the trip was for passengers to visit the so called 'lost village of Imber' in Wiltshire. The Wikipedia link for Imber is below.
South Croydon is an unusual pick up point for railtours. The plan for this was that '1Z80' could effectively use platform 4, the Reversible Slow, line as a loop to enable a regular 'Thameslink' service to pass whilst tour participants joined the train. As it turned out both trains were running a few minutes late, so this never happened.
Like many of you, I've Christmas traditions.
A relatively new one is to celebrate by having a fancy dinner out with my beautiful girlfriends.
I like to dress for the occasion.
Who doesn't?
This year, I retrieved a cheery red satin dress from the back of the clothes rack for this year's event. Some may recognize it from photos taken at a Christmas event about four years ago. It still fits!
Before showing some images from the event, I figured some would like to see how I prepare.
My first step is to assemble the ensemble on an antique coat tree stand. As an example - See left image in the composite. Mixing and matching might take several iterations. This year, I was trying to justify a green satin dress but given a choice - there just was no fair competition with red. Agree?
A decision about a final "Get Up" for the evening is close when it is just a matter of selecting shoes, and hair. In this case, I chose closed toe kitten heels because they are stable and warmer in winter months, and...... I won't have to get a pedi. Whew!
Though I've a lot of hair in different lengths in the same color range - I chose a more mature cut.
Modern, sophisticated, classy ---that's me!
On the right side of this composite - you can see how I'm nearly ready to "Go."
These are not glamour photos - but instead reveal some details of the process I take to get ready.
Other details - red gloss fingernails with gold glitter nail accent, sparkly/shimmery hose, gold glitter accent scarf, gold Christmas tree pin, gold chain necklace and matching earrings, gold broadband ring and bracelet.
My evening makeup featured gold metallic eye shadow and cranberry lip gloss.
My clutch is a gold glitter borrowed from my spouse.
The natural blue fox coat took my look over the top!
The goal was to appear as a beautiful red and gold wrapped Christmas present!
Blah, blah, blah, blah.... Sorry to prattle on.
For me, it takes days contemplating options and hours of preparation.
That is why, when I finally emerge in public - appreciative comments of friends and strangers - mean a lot!
But even if not appreciated by others, it feels good knowing I did my best.
So how do you like my "get up" and "go" look?
A few photos out and about later.

This taken on my road trip to the stirling ranges, had planned to hike to the top for sunset and got a 1/3 into it when this scene presented itself, what it meant though and i was informed by some tourists coming down was that the top was totally under cloud and you couldn't see a thing...which put paid to my afternoons exercise. So settled in near the bottom for sunset instead.
The cold clouds as they came over into the warm valley just disappeared, pretty amazing sight.
This is Bluff Knoll, the highest peak in the Striling ranges of WA, an approx 3km hike to the summit.
Must be viewed large, the details are simply mind blowing with this new toy...
