A behind the scenes shot from a recent photo shoot

Mature Great Green Macaw, along with a good number of his group and a small flock of Scarlet Macaws, turn up quite regularly at the farm of a family where they can get a bit of a feed and meet some tourists.

Hastings Diesels Limited superbly restored 'Hastings Unit' No. 1001 arrives in platform 4 at South Croydon to pick up passengers, some of whom can be seen getting photos, en route from Tonbridge to Warminster. The purpose of the trip was for passengers to visit the so called 'lost village of Imber' in Wiltshire. The Wikipedia link for Imber is below.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imber

South Croydon is an unusual pick up point for railtours. The plan for this was that '1Z80' could effectively use platform 4, the Reversible Slow, line as a loop to enable a regular 'Thameslink' service to pass whilst tour participants joined the train. As it turned out both trains were running a few minutes late, so this never happened.

Time to party! Getting ready for my set...

From the wedding ceremony of Thea Marie and Markus this past summer.

We share the same niece and nephew, and it was a big bonus that photographing their wedding included seeing my little hearts in their adorable outfits, and listening to my sister and her husband (the bride's brother) perform.

All my best wishes for a long and great future together!

I have more photos from their ceremony in the links below the line.

Like many of you, I've Christmas traditions.

A relatively new one is to celebrate by having a fancy dinner out with my beautiful girlfriends.

I like to dress for the occasion.

Who doesn't?

This year, I retrieved a cheery red satin dress from the back of the clothes rack for this year's event. Some may recognize it from photos taken at a Christmas event about four years ago. It still fits!

Before showing some images from the event, I figured some would like to see how I prepare.

My first step is to assemble the ensemble on an antique coat tree stand. As an example - See left image in the composite. Mixing and matching might take several iterations. This year, I was trying to justify a green satin dress but given a choice - there just was no fair competition with red. Agree?

A decision about a final "Get Up" for the evening is close when it is just a matter of selecting shoes, and hair. In this case, I chose closed toe kitten heels because they are stable and warmer in winter months, and...... I won't have to get a pedi. Whew!

Though I've a lot of hair in different lengths in the same color range - I chose a more mature cut.

Modern, sophisticated, classy ---that's me!

On the right side of this composite - you can see how I'm nearly ready to "Go."

These are not glamour photos - but instead reveal some details of the process I take to get ready.

Other details - red gloss fingernails with gold glitter nail accent, sparkly/shimmery hose, gold glitter accent scarf, gold Christmas tree pin, gold chain necklace and matching earrings, gold broadband ring and bracelet.

My evening makeup featured gold metallic eye shadow and cranberry lip gloss.

My clutch is a gold glitter borrowed from my spouse.

The natural blue fox coat took my look over the top!

The goal was to appear as a beautiful red and gold wrapped Christmas present!

Blah, blah, blah, blah.... Sorry to prattle on.

For me, it takes days contemplating options and hours of preparation.

That is why, when I finally emerge in public - appreciative comments of friends and strangers - mean a lot!

But even if not appreciated by others, it feels good knowing I did my best.

So how do you like my "get up" and "go" look?

A few photos out and about later.

One of twenty-one EMD F59PH owned by Metrolink rolls into Fullerton with train 660. When Amtrak phased out their F59PHI locomotives I slept on that, then I started noticing how bad the chargers look; the paint scheme doesn't match the cars , flashing ditch-lights ( not that, that matter but it makes them a little more difficult to shoot if they honk). Now with Metrolink continuing to phase in more F125 into service which is essentially a EMD charger. So go get them now while you still can.

Bearded Iris in my garden November 3, 2015 Christchurch New Zealand.

I've always been the quiet type. Good at observation and blending in. That's me!

Uncomfortable with, and thus avoiding the spotlight or stage of any kind - I thrive in shadows.

A shade loving plant.

That is why its puzzling I allow myself to be pushed on occasion. This hotel pool scene is an example.

Nora in public, in daylight, in a costume that hides little. That's not pushing boundaries - its totally ignoring them!

Funny - once having the attention of an audience, I feel compelled to perform - or at least act the part. My motivator is fear of disappointing others. If the audience expects to see a bathing beauty poolside - I feel it necessary to act like one.

In this photo I'm glancing to an onlooker to gauge his satisfaction with my performance. I've got his attention and he's not good at being subtle. However its just not clear how he feels so I appear perplexed.

Some might say "Silly Nora - just be yourself. Don't worry about what others think."

But what if my purpose in life is to help others? Perhaps my performances, designed to meet expectations, are a way I am being myself. After all - no one is forcing me.

Why do we do what we do?

In the recent years many “Reception Halls” became common in the villages of Cyprus, which cater for the typical Cypriot wedding receptions of 2-3 thousand guests. (I refer to the villages!)

These photos here show one such a hall getting prepared for a wedding dinner. Thousands of plastic chairs are stacked on the tables while workers are cleaning the floor.

Lake Superior starting to get grumpy. The wind and crashing ice was deafening. I wish my camera had better audio

It was very cold overnight, just below minus fourteen in our neighbourhood, and first thing this morning the flickers got frisky with one another.

They were doing this dance for ten minutes while I watched and took pictures from the window. Eventually they disappeared.

And later the female came back for peanuts.

Busy couple of days, but as the title suggests, getting the there, phew!

Thanks for stopping

This was my eighth week in the flickr group Get Pushed. The purpose of the group is to take a challenge from a partner assigned to you each week. For this challenge I was paired with Nancy Goodenough. She has some remarkable work in her stream and it is definitely worth spending some time viewing her wonderful images. Her images are amazing!

Well, after examining my stream, she stated, "I was thinking rather than the modern buildings . . ., take a graphic sort of image of or in your house or school where the thumbnail looks like a graphic, but closer look you see it's part of a building inside or out. Could be part of a desk or chair even. Let your art go wild in a big graphic way. (No people/no nature in the shot!)

This was the most difficult challenge, but fun challenge. This proved to be hard for me, I think for me because I was so familiar with the subject that nothing really seem graphic enough to me. I really have a lot of room for improvement, but this was truly a push.

This was an excellent push, and I have had a great time working with and corresponding with Nancy.

I hope that this meets your expectations Nancy. I plan to continue working on this topic more. I did another set of images from objects in my classroom.

Thanks so much Nancy (Nancy Goodenough) this was truly are great push project.

Check out Nancy's fabulous response to my challenge here It's a must see and beautiful!

Thanks for viewing and have a wonderful day. :D

Ringo, the one on the right, from our NSPCA Adopt-A-Bowl shoot about one year ago has finally found his Fo'ever home!

From the good people at Pawtastic Friends who worked tirelessly to make this happen:

"It’s hard to describe what today means to me or for that matter to many of us. Ringo has been waiting very patiently for his happily ever after. Well, guys today was the day. Everybody’s favorite boy Ringo has worked so hard for this day. Today wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication of many many people that loved him. Rescue when done right is a group effort. Melissa worked tirelessly to get him to safety. She found a safe place for him to land at Friends For Life Humane Society. The changes in Ringo were almost immediate. The guys that run promised him that they wouldn’t give up on him. So today as a family we can all celebrate his happily ever after. Thank you to the volunteers that never gave up, the generous donors that made his Enrichment Training possible and to the many people who shared his journey. This is what happiness looks like. Ringo’s new dad loves him and Ringo has 50+ acres to play and even his own pond to splash in. He found the pond right off the bat. Let’s all continue to share the dogs that might take a bit longer to get adopted. There’re right home will come along. Happy Gotcha Day Ringo! We all love you. Love now and forever Fireball."
