This is Lizzy she is my beautiful daughter. I decided I needed to try out my new 30d camera and she was my subject. What a great beginner subject she was! She is holding her new Dress me Emma doll that her Nona got her for her Birthday in Novemember, and we bounced on the trampoline while mom here took the pics! :) What fun!
Originally constructed as a stock and irrigation pond, today's 530-acre Chickahominy Reservoir - the main feature of the BLM's Chickahominy Recreation Site - offers exceptional, year-round fishing and seasonal camping in the high desert country of southeastern Oregon.
Located just 98 miles east of Bend and 32 miles west of Burns on U.S. Highway 20, Chickahominy's primary draw is rainbow trout fishing. Since it is a standing body of water, the State of Oregon stocks the Chickahominy annually with coastal rainbow trout. Stocked fish are thought to be unable to escape from these water bodies and therefore not a threat to mix with native stream dwelling trout elsewhere in the watershed.
Although the reservoir was not stocked in 2015 due to poor habitat conditions resulting from the prolonged drought conditions in the region, state officials stocked it with over 2,000 legal-sized rainbow trout in May 2016. The water level does fluctuate with the amount of spring run-of and can be low at times, occasionally affecting the availability of fisheries, so be sure to check-in with the Burns District Office for the latest update.
Fishing may be the site's primary attraction, but it isn't the only one. In the 1960s, members of the Malheur Job Corps Conservation Center constructed a campground onsite, and today visitors can stay at 28 campsites and utilize flush restrooms, covered picnic areas, paved access roads, and a concrete boat ramp for reservoir access.
The campground is designed for visitors using motor homes (up to 40β) and camp trailers and also includes many sites for tent camping.
One word of warning: regardless of the season, strong winds are a common occurrence, so be sure to come prepared.
Constructed in the early 1950s to manage water for irrigation and watering livestock, Chickahominy has grown today to be a popular recreation site with fishing, bird watching, and camping opportunities. Stop by and check it off your Oregon bucket list!

Lost Coast Headlands is along the coastal bluffs south of the mouth of the Eel River and approximately 260 miles north of San Francisco and 25 miles south of Eureka. Surrounded by private land, the 2 trailheads allow the visitor to access remote and rugged beaches.
Fleener Creek trailhead has expansive views of the Pacific Ocean and the California Coastal National Monument to the south. A short walk down several switchbacks brings you to the mouth of Fleener Creek.
The coastal bluffs consist mostly of grasslands with scattered patches of forest. The beach along the base of the bluffs is narrow and typically not passable except during very low tides. The exposed cliffs facing the ocean are rich in fossils and several locations along the bluffs are actively eroding into the ocean.
Part of the Lost Coast Headlands includes the reclaimed site of the Centerville Beach Naval Facility. The U.S. Navy established the facility in 1958 as part of the Sound Surveillance System (SOSUS) that monitored Soviet submarines during the Cold War. At its peak of operation, it housed nearly 300 personnel and contained operational and support facilities including barracks, a gym, and other structures.
The U.S. Navy stopped using the facility in 1993. In 2002, Congress authorized the transfer of land to BLM ownership and in 2008 funding was secured to decommission the site and the transfer was complete in 2010.
The BLM manages for public access and open space preservation, resource enhancement and agricultural preservation. These premier coastal lands were acquired by grants from the California Coastal Conservancy and the Wildlife Conservation Board, with participation by The Conservation Fund.

"Looking over my notes describing my experience here in Bishop this summer is quite exciting. The people I had the pleasure of working with are genuinely caring and respectful, and I couldnβt have asked for anything more. Also, the majestic beauty of the Owens Valley is truly a place that will steal your heart.
Iβve learned a lot of Park Ranger and maintenance duties over the last eleven weeks. I was also able to spend time with many other people around the field office to get a feel for the different professions. The experience here has helped me to see what land management is about, and how it functions.
I couldnβt be happier that I was chosen to participate in this internship. The Bureau of Land Management is a great agency to work for, and I am excited about the career opportunities that are ahead of me. I am excited to be involved in work that aims to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of public land, and also encourages people to get outdoors and explore the beauty of our country."

In 2006 I Googled βplaces to hike in the northeast Ohio/Northwest PAβ. The NCT came up & looked good, particularly the Allegheny NF section. I scheduled a weekend trip and was hooked; I had to return for more hiking and soon. That year I completed the section through Allegany SP in NY through Allegheny NF & Cooks Forest SP. I have repeated that hike a few times since and hike the ANF or most of it every year. I since have hiked the entire PA section, some of NY, the MI LP from the Manistee NF border through Wilderness SP. I have hiked the trail in the MI UP from the Hiawatha NF boundary to Pictured Rocks NL. Lots of other hiking & other obligations have slowed my progress some, but the hike I did this year (a re-hike through the east section of Hiawatha NF, Tahquamenon Falls SP & Lake Superior State Forest plus part of Allegheny NF) re-kindled my desire to complete the whole trail. That weekend trip in 2006 changed my life for the better in so many ways. The NCT has a special meaning to me.

Small LP Supercell over Southern New Jersey this weekend during a severe weather outbreak that brought tornados, high wind wind, heavy rain, hail, and lightning to the MD/DE/PA/NJ region.
The first two images are the supercell and the third is just a screengrab that also shows the tornadic cell that came from DE, across the Delaware Bay, and into Cape May before the main line of thunderstorm eventually moved in.
We were situated outside Elmer, NJ after having move inland from closer to the Delaware River in order to better position ourselves for intercept of several cells forecast for the area.
While photographing these cells and other interesting clouds here, we saw the tornadic cell that we were banking on all day taking shape in DE but tracking North of us, so back in the car we went, dodging other areas of rain and storms moving in to try and get lined up with it until we just where we couldn't go any further and it was there that we stopped and shot the shelf cloud in the previous posts.
What a chase!
The Iron Canyon Trail is a fun 4.5 mile trail that allows explorers a view of the Sacramento River Bend high above the canyon with very little climbing. Itβs mostly single track with short sections of dirt road. This area demonstrates much of BLM's multiple use mission including, grazing, hiking, mountain biking, equestrian, fishing, birding, hunting, archaeology and more.
