Several scenes from yesterday's chase along the Delaware Bay that took us from Philly->Pennsville->Greenwich and then back home again. Great day of chasing, lots of dynamics in the air, interesting structure, definitely some supercell activity including rotation and of course, lighting.

A favorite place. Close to town. Easy access to go for a walk and sort things out...

Steeple Jason was incredible with the Black-browed Albatross colony but the Striated Caracaras steal any show. Aggressive, curious, and operating in packs these raptors will entertain you for hours. That fact was a plus since we were marooned here for about 6 hours due to extremely high winds.

Good thing Aiko is a snow lover dog and his coat is really thick.

I bet you can see the wind that lifts his fur, cold wind too 😄

Small LP Supercell over Southern New Jersey this weekend during a severe weather outbreak that brought tornados, high wind wind, heavy rain, hail, and lightning to the MD/DE/PA/NJ region.

The first two images are the supercell and the third is just a screengrab that also shows the tornadic cell that came from DE, across the Delaware Bay, and into Cape May before the main line of thunderstorm eventually moved in.

We were situated outside Elmer, NJ after having move inland from closer to the Delaware River in order to better position ourselves for intercept of several cells forecast for the area.

While photographing these cells and other interesting clouds here, we saw the tornadic cell that we were banking on all day taking shape in DE but tracking North of us, so back in the car we went, dodging other areas of rain and storms moving in to try and get lined up with it until we just where we couldn't go any further and it was there that we stopped and shot the shelf cloud in the previous posts.

What a chase!

Happy New Year 2023! Just another landscape filled with eye coating color.

I know I have been gone for a while. I am still kicking! I just got really burnt out on trying to be a money-making photographer by doing portraits. Then I moved from Colorado to Utah and just couldn't get it off the ground the same way. I was frustrated with probably a little depression as well and decided to take a sabbatical. A nice break is what I need after being a photographer for almost 30 years. I am older now and still in good health so don't worry if you think I vanished. I am around and you can find me on Instagram as well. I also took up golf, so that has been a fun adventure. I actually haven't picked up my camera in over 2 years. I am entering the water slowly and who knows where it will lead this time. I just am going to focus on my fun and enjoyment instead of trying to be a full-time professional photographer. It's time to do it for myself and my experience and peace.

Thanks to all my photographer friends that I have made in my journey, you are an encouragement.

Happy new year to you all 2023!

Devil's Fork Loop Trail, Fort Blackmore, Virginia.

"The Devil's Fork Loop Trail provides an impressively beautiful route through an old-growth hemlock and rhododendron forest. Amazing rock formations, waterfalls, swimming holes and mountain views give you plenty to see and do, but keep one eye on the trail, as the going can be rough. Although the trail follows yellow blazes for its entire 7 miles, poor maintenance means it is often difficult to find the blazes and the path, which, in several places, scrambles over large rocks or up very steep cliff faces." I came across this bridge while exploring the Black Forest last year. I’m still not sure about the composition.
