A potted geranium in my back yard. 10+ macro lens, hand-held.
Does anyone have some advice on removing the purple fringing on the edges of some of the petals in Paint Shop Pro? The manual says I should use the Adjust Hue, Saturation, Lightness tool, select the purple with the eyedropper, and adjust the hue until it's desaturated - but I just can't seem to get the hang of it! Are there any free programs on the Net that are good at fixing this? My lens works great, but I do get some chromatic aberration from time to time, and I need to know how to fix it.

Pelargonium is a genus of flowering plants which includes about 200 species of perennials, succulents, and shrubs, commonly known as geraniums or storksbills. Confusingly, Geranium is the correct botanical name of a separate genus of related plants often called Cranesbills. Both genera are in the Family Geraniaceae. Linnaeus originally included all the species in one genus, Geranium, but they were later separated into two genera by Charles L’Héritier in 1789. Gardeners sometimes refer to the members of Genus Pelargonium as "pelargoniums" in order to avoid the confusion, but the older common name "geranium" is still in regular use.
Species of Pelargonium are indigenous to Southern Africa and are drought and heat tolerant, and can tolerate only minor frosts. Pelargoniums are extremely popular garden plants, grown as annuals in temperate climates, and thousands of ornamental cultivars have been developed from about 20 of the species
Il Pelargonium, chiamato volgarmente geranio, è una pianta suffrutescente perenne, originaria dell'Africa australe, appartenente alla famiglia delle Geraniacee.
Le specie più conosciute e comunemente coltivate sono il Pelargonium zonale o geranio comune dal fogliame peloso e cuoriforme caratterizzato da un anello scuro; Pelargonium peltatum o geranio edera con foglie peltate lucide e carnose, fusti ricadenti; Pelargonium grandiflorum o geranio a farfalla dagli eleganti fiori con cinque macchie bruno-rossastre e foglie profondamente lobate; Pelargonium odoratissimum o geranio odoroso con piccole foglie frastagliate e aromatiche, fiori piccoli bianchi o rosei dal carattrisitico profumo di mela; Pelargonium graveolens dal profumo di rosa; Pelargonium radens dal profumo di limone.
I gerani maggiormente coltivati sono quelli zonali e edera: ne sono state selezionate numerose varietà dalle diverse colorazioni dei fiori, che variano dal rosso, al rosa, al violetto, al fucsia, all'aranciato e al bianco.
Il geranio ama le posizioni soleggiate, anche se vive abbastanza bene in mezz'ombra: durante l'estate, infatti, una prolungata esposizione al sole può deteriorare la pianta. Le innaffiature devono essere regolari per tutta la stagione riproduttiva: in primavera si annaffia circa tre volte alla settimana, a seconda delle condizioni climatiche locali, mentre d'estate anche tutti i giorni; tuttavia, non bisogna eccedere, perché troppa acqua potrebbe apportare dei marciumi alla pianta; inoltre, bisogna aver cura di non bagnare le foglie. Necessarie per ottenere una splendida fioritura sono le concimazioni, che vanno effettuate ogni 2 settimane circa. Quando i fiori cominciano a seccare è necessario cimarli, tagliando fino alla base del rametto fiorifero: in questo modo, la pianta continuerà a rifiorire. La moltiplicazione avviene per talea.
