The Georgetown Loop Railroad, built in 1884, connects the old mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume. Though only two miles apart, there is a 600 foot difference in the towns' elevations, meaning the train must take a "corkscrew" four-mile route up the canyon.

Originally known as Lebanon when settled in 1782, Georgetown was renamed for George Washington in 1790, and developed around the large Royal Spring, discovered by European-American settlers in 1774. The city’s proximity to Lexington has, in recent decades, spurred growth. Today, with a population of 37,000, the city is the sixth-largest municipality in the state of Kentucky.
Un grupo de uruguayos exalumnos de Georgetown University fueron recibidos por la Embajadora Keiderling, también exalumna, en su residencia oficial para comenzar a trabajar en la organización de la comunidad de alumni de dicha institución.
Durante el evento se firmaron los estatutos para la creación de la Asociación Civil sin fines de lucro de Exalumnos de Georgetown University.
El encuentro se caracterizó por un interesante intercambio de ideas, networking, proyectos y miradas a futuro, donde se analizaron cuáles son los valores compartidos entre Georgetown y Uruguay que se pueden potenciar en el futuro a través de esta asociación.
