George, a 9-week old, 2.1 lb. rat terrier, is getting ready to take a nap.

My friend George is a very interesting man. He lives in a cabana which he calls his 'hovel.' He has a very nice sailboat tied up right outside named s/v Nicole. He reads and surfs the Internet constantly. He is very well informed and a great conversationalist.

I had a rare opportunity to sit down with him in his 'hovel' and have a conversation and he gave me permission to take these photos of him.

George Wichgers proved to be a good thrower and hurdler. I think he even started liking track late in the season.

The tragic and unjust murder of George Floyd on May 25, 2020 caused a tidal wave of anger, frustration, and action to address systemic police brutality and racism in our community, state, country, and world.

I'm embarrassed to say that this happened very near to my home. In fact, it took me well over a month to visit the memorial site where Mr. Floyd uttered his last words, "I can't breathe" at 38th & Chicago in Minneapolis, MN.

The pain and suffering are still apparent, but out of the ashes emerges a new feeling of activism and awareness. I can only hope that the energy around this tragedy leads to positive things.

If you know exactly what it is, let me know! I read the plaque and it didn't say much.. :\

The largest of the churches built in Bucharest during the reign of Constantin Brancoveanu, New St. George's Church was consecrated on June 29, 1707.

It was a wonder of the age, having been designed by an Italian, Vaseleli, and decorated by the great Romanian maestros of the times: the painter Parvu Mutu, the carpenter Istrate and the sculptor Caragea.

Damaged in a fire in 1847, the church was renovated from 1852-3 by the Spanish architect Villacrosse.

At the same time, new and outstanding interior murals were added by Marian Popp.

A further round of both exterior and interior renovation - including the restoration of many paintings - ended in 2014, when Brancoveanu was consecrated as saint.

Once buried underneath the church, Brancoveanu's remains are now found on display inside.

The church resembles several contemporary ones in Bucharest, all drawing inspiration for their enlarged narthex and cross shape from the Princely Church of St. Nicholas in Curtea de ArgeÈ™.

The portico features seven arches in front and three on each side, resting on twelve columns with flowery capitals; the whole sits on a sculpted, fretted parapet.

The portico ceiling has two vaults separated by a wide arch.

The large square narthex has four columns supporting the central dome.

Three arches resting on columns mark the entry into the nave; then follows the narrower crypt, covered by a very wide arch.

The side apses are in slight relief, just wider than the narthex.

A second, larger, dome rises above the nave; both are octagonal with square bases.

The columns, parapets and domes all date to the BalÈ™ restoration.

The facades are divided into two nearly equal sections by a wide, ornamental string course.

The lower part has rectangular panels with windows between them; the frames are of carved stone.

The upper panels are of the same dimensions, but have blind arches.

The domes have narrow windows inside a series of ever-smaller arches.

The dome bases feature blind arches.

Relics of Saint Nicholas are on display; brought to Wallachia, they were coated in gilt silver in 1599 and placed inside a small reliquary of sterling silver by Michael the Brave, Doamna Stanca and their son Nicolae Pătrașcu.

The relics of Brâncoveanu, his sons and his adviser Văcărescu, canonized as martyrs in 1992, are also inside.

Initially, the prince's name was inscribed by his widow and daughter only on the silver candelabrum hanging above the grave; a 1720 inscription on the latter was only brought to light in 1914, by Iorga.

The Brâncovenesc wooden iconostasis is well preserved, with several levels of arches and small columns, richly decorated with floral elements; the string courses dividing its levels are in openwork.

For a time, while this was under repair, it was replaced by the Gothic Revival iconostasis of the Bradu-Staicu church, which was demolished in 1987.

The church was visited by former King Michael I on Easter in 1992, during his return to Romania after 44 years in exile.

A statue of Brâncoveanu by Oscar Han stands in front of the church, with the Kilometer Zero monument to the side.

CK went to bed way earlier than me (I'm still up). George left the bedroom and curled up in the little gap between me and the end of the sofa. So cute! He's not usually a cuddler like this. He's pressed up right against me, and I can feel him purring.

Overlooking the Niagara River, Fort George was built between 1796 and 1802. This fortification served as the headquarters for the Centre Division of the British Army during the War of 1812, and played a pivotal role in the defence of Upper Canada. Fort George saw action during the Battle of Queenston Heights, was destroyed and captured by the Americans during the Battle of Fort George, and was reclaimed by the British seven months later.

The 41st (Welch) Regiment of Foot was an infantry regiment of the British Army, formed in 1719 and amalgamated into The Welch Regiment in 1881.

The 41st regiment served with distinction in Canada during the War of 1812 where it gained more battle honours than any other British unit during that period.

George steers into a jibe at Jamesport, NY. SW winds building in the 20's meant 5.2's and later 4.7's. I shot this with the fast-shutter "sports" setting, but I didn't like the dark and grainy results, despite the cool spray that was captured.

Today I finished the faceup of my Dreaming El head, which was waiting since last Christmas for some colour!

His look is inspired from the early 80's New Romantic / Blitz Kids scene (like Boy George used to look before he got popular ^^).

Fort George is a constituency in the Belize district.

Belize is a Central American country bordered in the north by Mexico, the south and west by Guatemala and the east by the Caribbean Sea. The official language is English. Belize has a population of around 380,000 which makes it one of the most sparsely populated countries in Central America. Originally it was part of the British Empire and was known as British Honduras from 1862 to 1973.

'What's that? Another human based torment device? And why, pray, are you moving your hand like that? Is it to get my attention? And by the way do you have any treats?'

"George Washington slept here." We've all heard that story, but he really did....honest. Inside Washington's Headquarters in Valley Forge NP.
