George's Jackasses

This wonderful giraffe, looked so gentle while munching away at the zoo. I named it George, since there was no name listed for it.

Georges Pond is part of Demarest Lloyd state park in South Dartmouth, an area of MA that gets little traffic. But the nature here is quite breathtaking. This panoramic was captured with my phone because my Canon 24-70mm F2.8 lens started to malfunction (Err 01, an indicator of expensive repair, unfortunately).

George is a Nubian goat, and loves pats. He's resting on a hay pile at Wood Family Farm. He has a cute pink nose and long ears, which help keep him cool in the summer.

The most famous image is Saint George (Yuri), who defeated the devil.

In Ukrainian tradition, Saint George was the patron saint of Rus', Kyiv region, Galicia, Volodymyr, Lviv, Kyiv region, Bila Tserkva, the Cossacks, the Ukrainian army, etc. One of the largest Ukrainian churches, the Cathedral of Saint George in Lviv, is named in honor of the saint. The feast day is April 23 (May 6 according to the Gregorian calendar).

Юрій (Георгій) Змієборець Юрій (Георгій) Переможець або святий Ю́рій (Георгій) — римський воїн з Каппадокії часів імператора Діоклетіана, християнський мученик і святий. Син грецької родини — римського офіцера Гіротонія та його дружини християнки Поліхронії. Був гвардійцем та сподвижником римського імператора Діоклетіана. Під час гонінь на християн втратив усі посади. Мужньо прийняв смерть, відмовившись зректися своєї віри в Ісуса Христа. У середньовічній «Золотій легенді» постає як еталон лицаря, переможець дракона. У європейському живописі зображувався у вигляді воїна-вершника, зазвичай хрестоносця, що вбиває змія списом.

Церква вшановує святого великомученика Юрія (Георгія) як переможця зла, неправди та людської люті. В іконографії він часто зображується вершником, який списом вражає змія. Це символізує його перемогу над дияволом.

Непохитна віра і мужність святого Юрія виявилися в тому, що мучителі не змогли примусити його зректися християнства. Тому цього святого часто називають Юрієм Переможцем або Георгієм Побідоносцем.

В українській традиції святий Юрій був патроном Русі, Київщини, Галичини, Володимира, Львова, Київської області, Білої Церкви, козацтва, українського війська тощо. На честь святого названий один з найбільших українських храмів — Собор святого Юра у Львові. День вшанування — 23 квітня (6 травня за григоріанським календарем).

Lake George is a beautiful place.

Up here on the fourth floor as well as all the comings and goings in the ward , there was plenty of seagulls flying about outside and quite often they would land on the windowsill and knock on the window quite loudly . On this occasion I was sitting on the side of the bed while eating a chicken mayo sandwich and I had clear view of these flying vultures !!

This one stood on the windowsill wandering up and down and tapping on the window whilst always keeping a beady eye on the slowly shrinking sandwich and refused to fly off until the sarni was completely consumed !!

The view here is the same one as the recently posted night capture .

The trail continues above the lake on the opposite shore. When I first arrived in the basin, I took a snack break on those rocky outcrops middle right of frame, and scoped out this spot for camp when I realized the light and views were probably going to play out better on this side of the lake.

I'm guessing that service is a little slow here.

This post is the 20th warbler species I have posted since the end of March which for me is somewhat of a milestone. Those of you who are familiar with my photo stream know I have a special interest in warblers. My warbler images this year are thus far mostly taken in Georgia where we have over 20 breeding species in our state, and several images have been from Florida, with a few from Tennessee and a few from North Carolina. I have 2 or 3 more species to post from this Spring. The end of July marks for me to beginning of my fall migration efforts where I try for fall plumages including females and juveniles. I also hope to pick up some additional warbler species. I have had a lot of fun and adventure since the end of March working on this, and I sincerely appreciate all the comments and favs.
