A portrait view of the Chocolate Hills in Bohol, Visayas, The Philippines. Captured under a layered sky, the rolling limestone mounds stretch toward the horizon, rising above a sea of coconut palms and native forest. The vertical framing captures the full rhythm of the land — from fertile valley to vast, living sky.

The midday sun bursts over the sandstone cliffs of Zion National Park, Utah, casting light across the green valley below. A vivid landscape where desert stone meets thriving canyon vegetation.

Erosion, repetition, and scale define this landscape at Bryce Canyon National Park. What appears chaotic up-close, resolves into layers shaped by time, wind, and gravity. The longer the view holds, the more the land reveals its order.

Nestled in a vibrant green rice paddy, a humble worker’s shack stands quietly. Behind it, a majestic Chocolate Hill from Bohol, Visayas, Philippines, rises, adorned with lush tropical coconut, palm, and other trees. A thin layer of sky crowns the hill, adding a touch of tranquility to this picturesque scene

The Cheesewring is a granite tor in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is situated on the eastern flank of Bodmin Moor.

The Cheeswring is a natural geological formation, a rock outcrop of granite slabs formed by weathering. It gets its name because the piled slabs look like a "cheesewring", a press-like device that was used to make cheese.

A local legend about this rock formation is the result of a contest between a man and a giant. When Christianity had just been introduced to the British Islands, the giants who lived at the top of the mountains were not happy about it. The Saints had invaded their land and were declaring their wells as sacred.

One of the larger giants, Uther, was given the task of ridding their land of the Saints. He confronted the frail St Tue, who proposed a rock throwing contest. If Uther won, the Saints would leave Cornwall. If St. Tue won, then the giants would convert to Christianity.

Uther took his turn first and easily threw a small rock to the top of nearby Stowe's Hill. St Tue prayed for assistance, and picking up a huge slab found it was very light. One after the other, they threw their rocks, stacking them up in perfect piles. When the score was 12 stones each, Uther threw a thirteenth stone, but it rolled down the hill. St Tue picked up this fallen stone, and as he lifted it, an angel appeared to carry it to the top of the pile of rocks. Seeing this, Uther conceded and most of the giants decided to follow Christianity after that.

"Hiking Layers in Denver" by Patti Deters. A lone hiker pauses as she admires the colorful layers in this geological formation near Denver, Colorado. The layers of rock and sediment have formed over the years to create this beautiful natural mountain mural. The size of the person really gives a sense of the scale of the size of the cut-away mountain. The photo also has a symbolic meaning in that the mountain represents challenges and obstacles that we face in life; the hiker represents determination and resilience showing that even when we are faced with challenges, we can still stand tall and proud. There was a heavy downpour outside. Which was unexpected. The boats waited for it to wane -- just more than enough time to compose and take this shot. I told the boatman to wait at this point, since he wanted to join the group right at the mouth of the river.

This exit leads to the South China Sea and back to the boat docks.

"Bryce Canyon Series #21 - Swamp Canyon Overlook" by Patti Deters. Dramatic hoodoos create a gorgeous landscape of spires and pinnacles against the backdrop of a steep canyon wall that is dotted with pine trees. Sunlight highlights the warm tones of the sandstone rock formations. The natural erosion patterns carve unique shapes from the canyon walls, adding depth and character to the scene. The pink and white limestone geological buttes and hoodoos of this Utah, USA National Park absolutely glow in the late afternoon light. Photographed at Bryce Canyon near Swamp Canyon Overlook at GPS: 37°35'47.8284N, 112°12'30.9528W. Thank you for viewing this picture. "On top of the Austin Chalk are several different layers of beds known as the Taylor formation. Deposition of the Taylor beds marks the point of eustatic regression which continued until the end of the Cretaceous period. Ozan Marl is the first bed overlying the Austin chalk and can be found underneath the city of Richardson and Garland. The Ozan Marl consists of calcareous micaceous clay with increasing silt and sand towards the top. The environment that hosted the deposition of the Ozan marl was still in a relatively deep marine and low energy environment, but began to see sedimentation dominated by mud since the sea level was falling. The Ozan marl is around 500 ft thick, and marine megafossils can be found. On top of the Ozan marl is two thin beds known as the Wolfe City Sandstone and Pecan Gap Chalk. The Wolfe City Sandstone is known in the city of Rockwall, Texas for its sandstone dikes that protrude into the surface, and gives a surface expression of a wall built of rocks. The very top of the Taylor has a 300-foot section of marls known as the Marlbrook Marl." -- Geology of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, Wikipedia

Homer Growlingbowel made a quick pitstop. He was sitting there minding his own business when a brilliant light lit up the landscape. Homer doesn't remember what happened after that, but, he sure felt lighter.

Details from rocks formation Marvelous Bridges (The Wonderful Bridges)

As blocks of continental crust rode across one another, some rocks became so hot that they melted. Molten rock at the Earth's surface erupts to form either volcanoes or quiet lava flows. When molten remains deep below ground, it cools crystallizes to form bodies of rock that is called igneous plutons. Plutons are scattered throughout the Southern Appalachians like plums in a pudding. Some plutons are now exposed at the land surface due to erosion of overlying rock; they weather to form unusual, smooth-sided domes like Looking Glass Rock, south of Asheville, North Carolina. The plutons are composed of granite and similar rocks.

This natural Arch is found near Moab, Utah (In Arches N.P.) in the devil's garden area. It has the largest span of any natural Arch in the World. As you can see the same erosion that created this Arch will work at it until nothing is left standing, so it probably doesn't have too much longer... I felt like with my last two heavily edited pictures I should go with something a little more simple with just shapes, light, and minimal detail.
