Germinating Wisconsin Fast Plants (Brassica rapa) on filter paper in petri dishes. These seedlings were the F2 generation offspring from a dihybrid cross to observe Mendelian inheritance patterns.
So here it is, the Genetics Bunker, with the commander, a giant Squid, snake like creature, responsible for the creation of the monstrosities unleashed by the Genetic Korps on the allied trenches above.

23andme.com sells genome decoding kits. Spit in a cup, send it away, and in a few months you have access to your entire genetic sequence and hundreds of reports that help you decode what's in your genetic makeup.
It's all kinds of fascinating, and worth $200.
Genetics lab experiment - the students did a great job and it even worked beautifully! The goal was to make E. coli bacteria glow by making them take up and express a jellyfish gene for green fluorescent protein (GFP). The top two plates have bacteria that have taken up the gene (+pGLO). Since it is hooked up to an arabinose-responsive promoter, it will only be turned on if there is arabinose (ARA) present in the medium, so only the colonies on the ARA plate show green fluorescence under UV light, just as expected.
GUS reporter gene lab using Arabidopsis thaliana. The aim is to identify the spatial expression pattern of a specific gene involved in stress response when subjecting the plant seedling to the plant hormones abscicic acid and/or ethylene. Blue color means gene expression.
The genes from the saturation locus regulate if pigment is being produced. On the illustration you can see Chestnut, Chinchilla, Seal, Sable, Himalayan and Albino rabbits.

Genetics lab experiment - the students did a great job and it even worked beautifully! The goal was to make E. coli bacteria glow by making them take up and express a jellyfish gene for green fluorescent protein (GFP). The top two plates have bacteria that have taken up the gene (+pGLO), making them resistant to ampicillin (AMP) as the resistance gene is linked to the green fluorescent protein gene to allow for selection of positive clones. Without the gene (-pGLO) the bacteria cannot grow on the AMP plates. The GFP gene is hooked up to an arabinose-responsive promoter, so it will only be turned on if there is arabinose (ARA) present in the medium. And...

In the genetics lab, visitors learn how to use the vortex machine. Biologists use this instrument when they need to mix a small quantity of something in a relatively sterile or self-contained environment.
In order for mismatch repair in E. coli to discriminate between the old and new strands, DNA methylation is used. After replication and before methylation, only the old strand is methylated.
‘Traits are carried in DNA as instructions for constructing and operating an organism. These instructions are contained in segments of DNA called genes.’ [Wikipedia/Introduction to genetics]
