East Anglia is, apparently, 1/5 below sea level. The coastline along this stretch is also among the fastest eroding in Europe and has been receding since documented history.
These two facts, combined with potential increases in sea levels create a huge need to re-assess how we approach environmental issues like this. Do we act differently as a nation to help reduce our contribution to such problems or continue to patch up what we can, as we can?
There's surely no easy answer, but images of such places may help contribute toward a greater knowledge of the topic for people who previously were unaware, to help them gather information from which to form an opinion.
This stretch of concrete and rip rap runs along a huge stretch of coastline here. Despite the long term connotation presented above, I find them rather impressive.

Torres de Serranos or Porta de Serrans
Gate built in the late 14th century that formed part of an ancient city wall* [fortification for a defensive purpose] in the old city of Valencia, Spain. It is a historic landmark and monument.

ET42-006, as a looser on the Węgliniec-Jaworzyna Śląska route, passes the former aggregate reloading facility in Rębiszów. Built by the Germans in 1925, it was used to load wagons with basalt from a nearby quarry. The raw material was delivered by cable car, and gravity unloading took place from platforms visible at the top of the structure. This facility likely ended around the turn of the century.

ET42-006 jako luzak w relacji Węgliniec - Jaworzyna Śląska mija dawną przeładownię kruszywa w Rębiszowie. Zbudowana przez Niemców w 1925 roku służyła do załadunku wagonów bazaltem z pobliskiego kamieniołomu. Surowiec dostarczano kolejką linową, a grawitacyjny rozładunek odbywał się z pomostów widocznych w górnej części konstrukcji. To miejsce zakończyło prawdopodobnie na przełomie wieków.
One of my last photos of the evening last night in the old industrial parts of Dublin. I was keen to photograph the old streets around the Guinness Brewery at St James' Gate and finally found this classic street. Had to wait until very late before it became dark enough but certainly worth it!

This shot was taken at Presidio,CA right below the Golden Gate Bridge about an 1/8 of a second before getting sprayed then soaked up to the ankle in water. Having a rain-jacket draped over the camera helped... a bit. It's shortly after dawn, but the light never really hit the bridge.
This shot was inspired by Patrick Smith... If you like this image at all, go check out his stuff its really amazing and he is extremely helpful in his posts!
On that note, if you do go down to this spot when the surf is 10-20ft at high tide consider bringing the following items I neglected to bring: Shorts, water shoes, towel.
No HDR this time.

Leading to the little church of St Michael of All Angels. The church is for the villagers of Angersleigh, a tiny hamlet at the bottom of the Blackdown Hills. It dates from the 11th century and seats only 60 people.

The modern city of Alba Iulia is located near the site of the important Dacian political, economic and social center of Apulon, which was mentioned by the ancient Greek geographer Ptolemy. After Dacia became a province of the Roman Empire, the capital of Dacia Apulensis was established here, and the city was known as Apulum. Apulum was the largest city in Roman Dacia and was the seat of the XIII Gemina Legion. Apulum is the largest castrum located in Romania, occupying 37.5 hectares (93 acres) (750 x 500 m2). The early Slavic name of the settlement was Bălgrad (meaning "white castle" or "white town"). The "white city" name was Latinized into Alba Julia. Between 1541 - 1690 it was the capital of the Eastern Hungarian Kingdom and the Principality of Transylvania. Alba Iulia is historically important for Hungarians, Romanians and Transylvanian Saxons. This beautiful cast aluminum gate was created by sculptor Eng Siak Loy in 2006 at the Tanglin entrance to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Singapore. It is my last shot from the gardens and I would highly recommend a visit to this beautiful place if you are in Singapore. It is a magical place.
