One of seven surviving city gates in Kaliningrad, the former city of Königsberg. The Brandenburg Gate is the only gate of the still existing gates of Kaliningrad that performs its original transport function. The structure has been restored and is protected by the state as an architectural monument.

One of a pair of raccoons making the rounds of people's gardens early one morning. One of them was limping, and part of its tail is missing. Perhaps the dog was out when they visited the house with the sign on the fence: "Warning: Dog in Residence!"

On a walk round Neilston Pad, the path gates were open. Possibly a COVID-19 response but also maybe just because they're foresting just now.
This crow was being very vocal on the gate. It gave me a good laugh when I saw the sign. That crow was making sure that no one disobeyed that sign.
Every night at 8.00pm (20:00 hours) a moving ceremony takes place at the Menin Gate in Ieper - Ypres. The Last Post Ceremony has become part of the daily life in Ieper (Ypres) and the local people are proud of this simple, moving tribute to the courage and self-sacrifice of those who fell in defence of the town.
officially the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing, is a war memorial in Ypres, Belgium, dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown. The memorial is located at the eastern exit of the town and marks the starting point for one of the main roads that led Allied soldiers to the front line.
Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and built by the Imperial War Graves Commission (since renamed the Commonwealth War Graves Commission), the Menin Gate Memorial was unveiled on 24 July 1927. In early 2023, the monument was closed for extensive restoration works, expected to be completed in time for the memorial's centenary in 2027.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Number 2 in my Gates theme for this week. Wonky well used gates to a wonky but beautiful church. ole Park, Kent, UK taken in 2012.
The India Gate, (originally called the All India War Memorial), is a war memorial located astride the Rajpath, on the eastern edge of the ‘ceremonial axis’ of New Delhi, India, formerly called Kingsway. India Gate is a memorial to 82,000 soldiers of the undivided Indian Army who died in the period 1914–21 in the First World War.

Took a walk today to Iron Gates Gorge via the Stoat Trap Track. This is where the Oroua River runs through a narrow chasm. At the bottom of the track I had to wade across the Umutoi Stream to get to this spot so got wet feet. Quite a lot of water flowing due to all the rain lately. Was quite tricky to get a suitable composition.
Quite a nice walk. More info: www.irongates.co.nz/iron-gates-gorge-via-the-stoat-traps-...
A small gate at the side of the Agios Ioannis Monastery looks out across the field beyond. The storm has hit us so we're taking refuge in the grounds of the Monastery where the trees provide perfect shelter.
Getting nearer Troulos now but this old gate caught our attention as the skies slowly darken with the approaching storm.
View from Baker's beach.
Mile-long Baker Beach lies at the foot of rugged serpentine cliffs west of the Golden Gate. Large waves, undertow and rip currents make the beach unsafe for swimming, but it provides panoramic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headlands and Lands End. You can fish or check out the shorelife along the beach and rocky shoreline.
