Just got back from Coniston in the Lake District. I did a sponsored event in aid of guide dogs, in a team of 6 we had to hike to the top of Old Man Coniston (a mountain!) which was about 10km, cycle 17km which was really up and downy and then do 3km in a kayak.
It was SO hard, much harder than I thought it would be - the mountain was the worst bit for me. I enjoyed the cycling even though it was really hard (had to get off at some of the hills but so did a lot of others) and they kayak was a blessed relief at the end just to rest my legs!!
Sleeping in a tent WASN'T fun - it was freezing and uncomfortable. Hats off to you lot who do camping for fun!
Edit: Between 3 teams of 6 people, we raised £8000+, and all the teams involved raised £120,000 in total. How good is that?!

In the Maasi Mara National Reserve we came across two guides in a LandCruiser. It's not uncommon for passing vehicles to stop and ask what the other has seen in terms of wildlife. These hard working individuals spend long hours driving around their guests in search of the "Big Five".
I tried to use my telescope in a polar-aligned configuration, using a photo tripod. That means an approximate alignment with an equally approximate tracking, but at least, the crosshairs would stay a good minute on a particular crater before drifting. Considering my cheap setup, I'm quite happy with the result. Tracking speed was set to "Lunar", obviously.
I'm still struggling with some focus issues (or maybe it's the practical resolving power limit for a sensor that small ?) but I think it's my best moon shot so far. Check the EXIF for more info - except for focal length, which I forgot to set, it's still 1250 mm at prime focus.

Gibbs Hill lighthouse, as seen from the Yacht Club on Albuoy’s Point in Hamilton, Bermuda. Bermuda has two lighthouses. This one and St. David’s lighthouse in the East. Bermuda’s waters are treacherous. The 21 mile island is surrounded by reef. Its large collection of ship wrecks helped to earn it the moniker The Devil’s Isles back in the days of tall ships. It was the reefs that resulted in the eventual settlement of the island when the British ship, the Sea Venture, on it’s way to Jamestown, was shipwrecked here in 1609. All survived the wreck and lived on the plentiful wild hogs, fish, and birds until they were able to build two new ships from the island’s substantial cedar supply and move on to Jamestown. In 1611 the British returned, to colonize the island. As seen on my daily photoblog www.traverseearth.com
Rudolph Steiner House was designed by Montague Wheeler (1874-1937) and built in two parts, the hall between 1924-6, and the remainder between 1931-2.
Cast in-situ concrete, faced in Granolithic concrete blocks. Roof not visible. Asymmetrical composition of four storeys. 3 regular bays to left under segmental pediment. Irregular fenestration of central. sections reflects staircases behind. Three under-spaced bays to right. Square mullion casements to upper floors with square panes. Round - arched openings to ground floor with, to right expressionist segmental curved shopfront under coved hood mould.
Interior a powerful composition centred on the hall built to stage performances of 'Eurythmy', the expression of the spirit through physical movement of the building: sinuous expressionistic curves implying movement. This is seen in the irregular angles and curves of the hall proscenium and windows, but most particularly in two staircases animatic in the life given to the concrete structure. This was achieved by first building models in clay, a medium much favoured by Steiner himself.
The Rudolf Steiner House is the headquarters of a power international movement that from the first expressed its ideology in architecture. This is the strongest English example of Steiner's unique architecture idiom best known at his goethenaum near Basle. The building stands also as an almost unique British example of the symbolic expressionism prevalent in German art before and after World War I.

The Kruger National Park is one of the world’s largest and most famous nature reserves. It stretches more than 320 km along South Africa’s border with Mozambique, from the surging Crocodile River in the south to the desolate bush country of “Crooks Corner” and the Limpopo River in the north. It covers almost 21000 sq.km: that makes it a quarter the size of Natal, as big as Wales or the American state of Massachusetts…

We had several holiday trips to the Kruger Park when we were living and working in Johannesburg in the late 70s. Our favourite camp was Olifants. Pic in comments.

Great guided tour of the Central Library Manchester for our Photo society.
Here we are in the contentious glazed 'link' between the Library and the Town Hall extension looking towards St Peter's Square. Contentious because of the cost (£4.5m) and the distorting reflecting ceiling.
But everyone seemed to be taking photos of it - not just us!
