A group photo in the township of Ulan (乌兰) with our guide : 于浩 Yú hào. He arranged for us to enter the park, helped us book our hotel, drove us out to our campsite and delivered us our roast lamb one night for dinner. His phone number is 13832422711 and his email is bashangjidi@163.com

And we're back! The girls continue to work on the crafts as the camera zooms in on the leader, highlighting the important role she plays in helping the girls achieve Girl Greatness.

There was some problems apparently with vandelism at these "stations" (which was also the excuse given to leave the lights on for the last few months of non-operation).

Aerial view from a sea plane of Louisiana's marshlands are full of man made waterways cut into the marsh by oil and gas companies. The wetlands are threatened by the B.P oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. Migratory birds pass through the wetlands and much of America's seafood comes from the region. The oil which has been leaking since April 20, 2010, may have catastrophic effects on the environment that was already threatened by coastal erosion.

Just got back from Coniston in the Lake District. I did a sponsored event in aid of guide dogs, in a team of 6 we had to hike to the top of Old Man Coniston (a mountain!) which was about 10km, cycle 17km which was really up and downy and then do 3km in a kayak.

It was SO hard, much harder than I thought it would be - the mountain was the worst bit for me. I enjoyed the cycling even though it was really hard (had to get off at some of the hills but so did a lot of others) and they kayak was a blessed relief at the end just to rest my legs!!

Sleeping in a tent WASN'T fun - it was freezing and uncomfortable. Hats off to you lot who do camping for fun!

Edit: Between 3 teams of 6 people, we raised £8000+, and all the teams involved raised £120,000 in total. How good is that?!

I tried to use my telescope in a polar-aligned configuration, using a photo tripod. That means an approximate alignment with an equally approximate tracking, but at least, the crosshairs would stay a good minute on a particular crater before drifting. Considering my cheap setup, I'm quite happy with the result. Tracking speed was set to "Lunar", obviously.

I'm still struggling with some focus issues (or maybe it's the practical resolving power limit for a sensor that small ?) but I think it's my best moon shot so far. Check the EXIF for more info - except for focal length, which I forgot to set, it's still 1250 mm at prime focus.

Gibbs Hill lighthouse, as seen from the Yacht Club on Albuoy’s Point in Hamilton, Bermuda. Bermuda has two lighthouses. This one and St. David’s lighthouse in the East. Bermuda’s waters are treacherous. The 21 mile island is surrounded by reef. Its large collection of ship wrecks helped to earn it the moniker The Devil’s Isles back in the days of tall ships. It was the reefs that resulted in the eventual settlement of the island when the British ship, the Sea Venture, on it’s way to Jamestown, was shipwrecked here in 1609. All survived the wreck and lived on the plentiful wild hogs, fish, and birds until they were able to build two new ships from the island’s substantial cedar supply and move on to Jamestown. In 1611 the British returned, to colonize the island. As seen on my daily photoblog www.traverseearth.com
