Goat Herd Tiger Run 2012
Visited friends in Bend, Oregon back on Memorial Day weekend of this year.
While we were driving around town I saw a beautiful '66 Pontiac GTO. It caught my eye because my dad owned a similar one for about 30 years. Twenty minutes later I see a really nice '65 GTO. That's a bit odd. Five minutes later I see a third. Now I know that something is up. I grab my phone and do a quick google search: Oregon, GTO. Whadya know? There's a GTO car show the same weekend that I just happened to visit.

This is a shot of the first GTO I saw while I was there for car week, It's hard to believe but not only did I see more GTO's than 599's, but I saw so many I almost got tired of them. Or at least the red ones, which there were somewhere around 20 of...

My local Ferrari dealership has an Enzo, F50, F40, and GTO on display in a glass walled car elevator. Yesterday I just happened to stop by the dealership when they brought the cars out for cleaning and servicing.
The three fathers of GTO can be called the engineers of Pontiac - Russell Gee (engine specialist), Bill Collins (chassis specialist) and chief engineer John DeLorean. In early 1963 GM management issuaed and edict banning divisions from involvment in auto racing. At the time Pontiac's main focus was on performance, hence racing was an inportant component of the strategy. But when GM banned factory sponsored racing, Pontiac's young, visionary management turned its attention to emphasizing street performance. The name GTO was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO and it was DeLorean's idea. GTO in italian is Gran Turismo Omonogato (Grand Tourer Homologated - english). In other words - officially certified for racing in the Grand tourer class.
The GTO was basically a violation of GM policy limiting the A-body intermediate line to a maximum engine displacement of 330 cu in (5.4 L). Since the GTO was an option package and not standard equipment, it could be considered to fall into a loophole in the policy. Pontiac General Manager Elliot "Pete" Estes approved the new model, although sales manager Frank Bridge, who did not believe it would find a market, insisted on limiting initial production to no more than 5,000 cars. Had the model been a failure, Estes likely would have been reprimanded. As it turned out, it was a great success.
Pontiac GTO have experienced four generations an is still alive. This GTO model is from the very last - fourth generation. It started its era in 2004, relaunched in US, based on the Holden Monaro's V platform. It also become quite popular among so called Tuner's generation. And thos model is not an exception. It has modified body kit - fattened mudguard areas, modified bumpers, hood. It also uses modified interior as well as large wheels to feel more racy. Huge V8 under the hood, 17 studs wide, little more than 37 studs long, blue with blue/black sporty interior. Quite roomy for a race car. Rear seats features foldable armrest at the middle.
Hope you'll like it a bit =)
On April 8, 2010, Ferrari announced official details of the 599 GTO. The car is a road-going version of the 599XX and Ferrari say the 599 GTO is their fastest road car ever, able to lap the Fiorano test circuit in 1 minute 24 seconds, one second faster than the Ferrari Enzo. Its engine produces 670 PS (493 kW; 661 bhp) at 8250 rpm, with 620 N·m (460 lb·ft) of torque at 6500 rpm. Ferrari claims the 599 GTO can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 3.35 seconds and has a top speed of over 335 km/h (208 mph). At 3,500 lbs, the 599 GTO weighs 220 lbs less than the standard GTB. Production will be limited to 599 cars.
Ferrari has given only two other models the GTO designation: the 1962 250 GTO and the 1984 288 GTO.
This set of images shows post-conversion work performed to take my 2005, Texas-based Pontiac GTO back to its Aussie Holden roots. Looks much better. A few small details here and there also go a long way sometimes.

This was one of five examples of this model taking part in the Coys of Kensington GT Race at the Coys International Historic Festival meeting at Silverstone in July 1995. It's Brandon Wang's 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO, shown as a 1961 model in the programme of the event -though Ferrari didn't start making this model till 1962. It's chassis #4219GT, and the car was designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, the body by Sergio Scaglietti and the 3 litre V12 engine was the Tipo 168 designed by Gioacchino Columbo.

Definitely a first for me casting wise and I have to say i'm very impressed considering its a budget Motormax offering. I have absolutely no idea how long they've been making this 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge but it certainly equals anything produced by Hot Wheels. Well cast with tampo detailing on all four sides too.
