Yes, this is the gazebo from The Sound of Music. It is in a park just outside of Salzburg. Our tour guide, Helga, found it for us. I thought I knew where it was since we saw it 20 years ago when Jeanne and I were there. But they had moved it.
Helga was the name we gave to our GPS system in our car. When we arrived in Munich we were pleasantly surprised to find that our car had been upgraded to a Volvo with GPS. This is when we met Helga, our electronic guide for the trip. After an hour of learning how to program Helga, which mostly involved figuring out where the buttons were in the car that controlled Helga, all the time sitting in the rental car garage at the Munich airport with extreme jet-lag, we were on our way to Innsbruck, Austria.
I am not sure why we named the GPS ‘Helga’. She had a British accent and the voice of the woman from “The Weakest Link”. She also reminded me a little of ‘Hal’ from “2001 A Space Odyssey” But we were in Germany, so “Helga” was the first thing that came to mind. When we got off of her route she reminded me of Raymond from the movie “Rainman” because she continually repeated the same phrase over and over: “The route contains charge areas”. She also led us down an ox cart path once but was otherwise flawless.

On our way out to dinner, Rachel and I decided to test out the portable GPS system her parents and I bought for her as a graduation present. It's definitely going to come in handy since our beloved veterinarian will be driving all over the place in her truck to take care of the area's horse population. We were impressed by this Garmin Nuvi 660 and can recommend it to others.
Point Arena Lighthouse lens. This has been removed from the lighthouse and is being displayed in the base of the lighthouse. The lighthouse lens is suppose to have a unique pattern and flash rate to allow captains to understand where they are about to encounter. This is suppose to flash every 18 seconds, however it is flashing at 13 seconds. Hope the boats have a good GPS system!!
We're at Pelican Beach GC, near Los Angeles and about to enjoy a fun round of golf. I remember that the greens fees were really expensive and the carts had GPS systems that told golfers their distance from the flag (but I shot so badly that our GPS got confused).

We departed for Port Ludlow right after I took this photo and found dense fog in Roche Harbor. After an hour, the fog cleared and we were able to make our way south down Mosquito Pass only to find the entire route down to Port Townsend obscured by dense fog. It's puzzling with our GPS systems. When we finish a hike we photograph the Garmin GPS machine as a "Just the facts" image. But then we started noticing that the distance at that point on the machine is different from the distance that displays on the hike profile when we download that data onto our computer. "Just the facts" shows 21 km's of distance, but the profile only 19.26. How come? We discovered Alltrails.com in doing research for hikes and now contribute to it. Their track of our hike suggest only 18.95 km's distance, which is odd, as Larry was carrying this machine when he did his solo conquest of the Bogart Tower, which would have made his actual distance longer than mine, as I carried the Garmin... Frustrating.
Although the forecast was for a warm day, the wind gusts in the region were predicted to be as high as 50 km's per hour, so we elected to explore the more sheltered route to the Memorial Lakes above Kananaskis Village. Ordinarily, Larry and I do not separate on our scrambles, but Larry was keen to summit Bogart Tower, and I was concerned about the strong winds, as well as our lack of strong documentation of the exact route. So I let Larry go ahead, and took photos from ridge below the Tower.
