This was a cake: I finally understood how to set up my GPS system.
Problem is, in Indonesia (in Jawa, at least) with a bike you are not allowed to take toll roads, while I set up my GPS to avoid higways, and Jawa's toll roads are not classified as higways (at least not on my GPS system) . So the poor thing was trying to make me take roads I couldn't go while ignoring the one I could :-D
We went geocaching for the first time to Longshaw today - loved it! (For the uninitiated out there, geocaching is like doing a treasure hunt using a handheld GPS system and you find the clues online. Great for getting the kids out walking whilst having a lot of fun too.) Saw some fantastic wildlife too. Think it could be another new hobby - I'm up to 3 now!

The Ciudad Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World City) is a tract of land owned by the prefecture of the province of Pichincha, Ecuador. It is located at San Antonio parish of the canton of Quito, 26 km (16 mi) north of the center of Quito. The grounds contain the Monument to the Equator, which highlights the exact location of the Equator (from which the country takes its name) and commemorates the eighteenth-century Franco-Spanish Geodesic Mission which fixed its approximate location; they also contain the Museo Etnográfico Mitad del Mundo, Ethnographic Museum Middle of the Earth, a museum about the indigenous people ethnography of Ecuador.
The 30-metre-tall (98 ft) monument was constructed between 1979 and 1982 by Architect and Contractor Alfredo Fabián Páez with Carlos Mancheno President of Pichincha's Province Council to replace an older, smaller monument built by the Government of Ecuador under the direction of the geographer Luis Tufiño in 1936. It is made of iron and concrete and covered with cut and polished andesite stone. The monument was built to commemorate the first Geodesic Mission of the French Academy of Sciences, led by Louis Godin, Pierre Bouguer and Charles Marie de La Condamine, who, in the year 1736, conducted experiments to test the flattening at the poles of the characteristic shape of the Earth, by comparing the distance between a degree meridian in the equatorial zone to another level measured in Sweden. The older monument was moved 7 km (4.3 mi) to a small town near there called Calacalí.
Based on data obtained by Tufiño, it was believed that the equator passed through those two sites. However, according to readings based on the World Geodetic System WGS84, used in modern GPS systems and GIS products, the equator actually lies about 240 metres (790 ft) north of the marked line.

Our first GPS system was with a Dell PDA, everything is on wire and very messy. Then we got the TOMTOM stand alone GPS which works pretty OK. With a build in GPS, we can now use the iPhone as a GPS. We don't want to wait for Google to come up with a turn-by-turn navigation system so for $20 we bought the CoPilot v8. The map is stored in the iPhone so it will still works when we go to area with no cell phone signal.

My iPhone4 was a lifesaver during this trip. Don't ever go to Washington D.C. without a good GPS system! The streets/highways are the most confusing I ever navigated through.
We use that term quite a bit where I work because that is basically what we do all day. We either track our drivers on this map to see how they are doing while making their deliveries or we use our computer to track shipments that are inbound to our service center. The system we are using here is called Cheetah. It is basically a GPS system that we use to keep track of where and what the drivers are doing and also to deliver and pick up shipments in what we call "Real Time". There are so many features on this map. When you click on one of the drivers names it shows you where he is and it also gives you a list of where he's been, what time he was there, where he is headed next, and what time he will arrive at his next spot. There is a feature on here that will let you track how fast they are traveling between each destination so you will know if the are speeding or not. This makes it pretty impossible for them to lie to us, unless the turn their nextel phone off, but we can tell if they do that and they will get in trouble anyway.
