As part of the Project for the Reform and Dissemination of Laws in Favor of Women, UN Women, in partnership with the PADMPME Coordination Unit of the Congolese Government, organized the launch ceremony of the digital dissemination campaign in Kinshasa, Matadi, Goma and Lubumbashi.
The ceremony was highlighted by the presentation of the Digitalisation Strategy, the foreword from the Ministry of Gender, Family and Child, the Ministry of EPME, the presence of Civil Society Organisations, and finally, the handing out of smartphones for entrepreneurial women in the 4 provinces of the project. These smartphones have an integrated GPS system and APP that will allow female entrepreneurs to connect, identify each other and start a digital network in the country.

Sometimes being a nice guy can create problems for me. These two beautiful dogs were running down the street in front of my house. They almost got hit by a car. So I ran out and stopped traffic and tried to get them to come to me. I managed to get them into my yard and read their little blue identity tags. I called the number on the tag and the man who answered could not speak English. So I have these two dogs in my car and a man on the phone who can't talk to me and tell me how to get to his house. Eventually with the help of a kindly grave digger (no joking) I was able to find their address on his GPS system. Come to find out, their street is just one block behind my house. I need to learn my neighborhood better. So after two hours of chasing dogs, having them hair up my car, drool down the back of my shirt, and kiss my ears while I am trying to drive, I got them back home. They were really sweet dogs, but it was a wild afternoon with them. Delilah was not happy that Daddy was out fooling around with other dogs.
As I finished up a meeting at the Alviso Environmental Education Center (EEC) there were a couple of hours of daylight left in the short December afternoon. There were so many birds around the EEC that I decided not to fly a kite there. Instead, I headed up to to Salt Pond A23 just north of Drawbridge. My last visit there in September found the pond essentially dry and sporting an interesting palette of colors and textures. I was curious about how it looked now that our winter rains have arrived.
It was an interesting KAP session. The winds were low (measured at 3.5 – 4.5 mph at the ground using a Kestrel anemometer) and the water surface was still. For some reason I thought the winds might fill in a bit and launched my 7.5-foot Rokkaku. This newly-sewn kite was able to lift the dSLR rig but only by a small margin. I spent the next hour or so as the sun set walking up and down the levee with my gear just barely floating above the 25% saline water. While slight the winds were smooth and it all worked out just fine.
This was my first flight using an airborne GPS system to log coordinates that were later used to geotag the photographs. The map position for each image was thus produced by an automated workflow. Neat.

Since the old, junked tractor caught your attention, I thought you might be interested in seeing a bit more modern version of Iowa farming equipment. i was going to remove the long-line in post, but it's where he's at right now.
actually, this boy doesn't really need the line. he listens wonderfully, and wants to be with you ... i only worry that something could spook him and he bolts.
what i really need for him is a GPS system. seriously. but right now we need a new furnace, a new water softener, water heater, and a new fridge and stove. so merrick has to wear the line.

An RTK GPS system was used to precisely map the locations where measurements were taken. Over 90 holes were drilled into the ice to get a detailed picture of the Pogues depth and topography.
This railroad bridge in Worcester has been hit 20 times just this year by trucks too tall to fit under it! City officials will shortly petition the state legislature to pass an act that would penalize those who hit a bridge whose height is clearly marked with a $5,000 fine plus the cost of the city's emergency response. Police believe the main reason is that out-of-town truck drivers put too much trust in their GPS systems and ignore the signs posting bridge heights.

Daphné and I went to scrapbooking stores in the Netherlands. They sell so many beautiful things there. It's a 2;5 hour car drive and the shops are not that easy to find so we used a GPS system. (124/365)
