A few weekends ago a glossy ibis was found at Summer Leys. There has only been two (I think) whilst I've been living in Northants and both stayed less than an hour so I was determined to see this one. I hurried down there and was able to see it and then refound it the following morning. I needn't have rushed however, as this has now been around for nearly a month. I've seen it few more times since and the other weekend it provided incredible photo opportunities.
Photographed at St. Mark's NWR in the Florida Gulf south of Tallahassee.

An uncommon visitor to Victoria, the stunning Glossy Ibis is a sight to behold. When a sighting was reported at a wetland near my work, I spent a couple of afternoons in pursuit of this beauty. I crawled about 30m through the mud & water to a small gap in the reeds where this bird was feeding with stilts and Australian White Ibis. The birds knew I was there, & to my surprise, both the White & Glossy Ibis came over to my location to investigate! A wonderful experience to have a rare bird so close.

(I guess this is where I say content over quality, between the poor light & distance, but these guys are rare here in Pa. so I had to take the shot.) Glossy Ibis

An attempt to do her beautiful shiny fur justice for Happy Caturday 1 February 2025 "February Fur", but didn't make the cut after I decided to go a different direction. That said, just one week later, 8 February Happy Caturday theme is to describe your cat(s) in "One Word." Jet's personality is a bit complicated for me to manage that, but "Shiny" will work well for her appearance. (so would "Black" but Timmy has taken that one ;-) Come to think of it her personality has shiny aspects as well... anyhow, Happy Caturday!) (Thanks to Laura G for saying “glossy” which means “shiny and smooth” which fits Jet perfectly. So I changed the title from “Shiny”).
A species I usually do not do well with folks, and do not know why, but this one I liked and thought it was lit just right to show the colors.
Have a great weekend, a great day, and thank you as always for the visit.

From what I have read, this is only the second ever recorded Glossy Ibis in Los Angeles county
The glossy ibis is still about at Summer Leys although it spends less time on the reserve and even less time in areas where it can be photographed. However, I got lucky again before Christmas and got a few more photos of this incredible bird
Plegadis falcinellus. Another photo of the Glossy Ibis at Ham Wall RSPB reserve in Somerset. I liked this pose with its long neck extended. A very nice rare bird that briefly showed well in front of a hide.
