Großen Deutschen Funk-Ausstellung Berlin in Betrieb genommen.

View of the pregnant oyster from the Reichtagskuppel.
On the right is the view of the Chancellery. In the middle of the photo is the Congress Hall, affectionately called the "pregnant oyster" by Berliners. Next to it is the bell tower in Tiergarten. In the front background is the Victory Column with the Goddess of Victory at the top. The Radio Tower can be seen in the distance. To its left, an elevation becomes visible, the Teufelsberg in Grunewald. Beneath the Teufelsberg lie the ruins of West-Berlin from the Second World War. Today it is forested and a popular place to visit.
Thank you for your visit, a star and comment always pleases me, stay healthy and cheerful.
Have a nice week, dear Flickr friends!

The Rheinturm is a television tower in Düsseldorf. At 240.50 meters, it is the tallest structure in the city and the tenth highest television tower in Germany. The Rheinturm, built from 1978 to 1982, serves as a carrier for antennas for directional radio, DVB-T television and VHF radio services as well as an observation tower. The tower standing directly on the Rhine has a special feature on its side facing the old town, a so-called light sculpture, which is considered the largest digital clock in the world. The Rhine Tower is open to the public, shapes the cityscape of Düsseldorf and is one of its landmarks. Every year around 300,000 people visit the Rhine Tower.

Before autumn finally gives way to winter, here's another image from a photowalk with Flickr friends back in November 2018. This a a view westwards from the rooftop terrace of the Reichstag building. While the Reichstag building's rooftop terrace is by no means the highest viewpoint in Berlin, you still have a pretty good view over the city in all four directions. And on that particular(ly cold) day we enjoyed a lovely golden hour up there that ended in a really spectacular sunset later.
Some of the builings you can see here are amongst Berlin's landmarks: there's the Victory Column with the gilded statue of Victoria on top – which was featured in the video for U2's song "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)" from their 1993 album Zooropa, and also in Wim Wender's movie Wings of Desire (1987). The tower on the right behind the Victory column which looks like the Eiffel tower's little brother is the Berlin Radio Tower which was inaugurated in 1926. On the left behind the Victory Column you can see the Teufelsberg ("Devil's mountain"), a rubble mountain which also covers the unfinished Nazi military-technical college (Wehrtechnische Fakultät); on top of the Teufelsberg you can see the remains of a former US listening station (the buildings with those spherical roofs). And the tower at the far right is the Tiergarten Carillon, the closest building to the Reichtags building in that direction. The 42 meter high Carillon is a large, manually played "Glockenspiel" consisting of 68 bells; it's located in Berlin's largest park, the Tiergarten (all those colourful tree tops you can see).
At first I thought I'd crop the image to get rid of the decorative roof element which you can see on the left. But then I thought that it's actually another layer in this multi-layered city image and also a nice anchor or entry point. Regarding the sky I should admit that I needed "a little help from my friends" aka photo editing software (Luminar AI to be precise): While the colours which you see are pretty much true to the golden hour colours we'd had on that afternoon – a warm, golden glow on the horizon that started to rise into the bright blue November sky – there was a fairly large area blown-out from the low afternoon sun which, for me, would have ruined the image. Other than that I've edited the image in Color Efex Pro starting from the preset "Warm Sunset".
Happy Hump Day, dear Flickr friends, wash hands, wear a mask, and stay safe and healthy!

A recent photo, taken two and a half weeks ago at the Messe Berlin (trade fair grounds of the Messe Berlin). At the moment, the Messe Berlin functions as one of Berlin's five vaccination centres, and I'd accompanied my mother when she had her first vaccination appointment, but I had to wait outside, because only the vaccinees were allowed inside. But since I'd brought my camera(s) along (of course I had, the Oly and the Ricoh), I whiled away the (short) waiting time by taking some photos – a most welcome diversion from the "stay at home, leave only for neccessary errands" routine. Although, of course, the vaccination had been a very neccessary (and long awaited) errand, too ;) And next Wednesday, my mother will get her second jab of the Biontech-Pfizer vaccine.
This photo shows the Berlin Radio Tower, the older brother of the Berlin TV Tower, and, one could say so, the younger brother of the grand Eiffel Tower – I think a certain resemblance can't be denied. The Berlin Radio Tower, however, is of a much lighter, slimmer appearance than its world famous brother. The concrete foundation of the 146 metres high tower spans a mere 20 square metres and it is also the only observation tower in the world that stands on porcelain insulators. The Berlin Radio Tower was built between 1924 and 1926, and in 1932 (other sources say 1935) the world's very first TV programme was broadcasted from the tower. I can recommend a visit to the Radio Tower's viewing platform which, at a height of 126 metres, offers a really nice view of Berlin. There's also a restaurant (at 50 metres).
Here, I particularly liked the natural, delicate-looking ramification of the still bare branches of the trees in the foreground in comparison to the filigree, elegant construction of the Berlin Radio Tower. So my "sliding" aim was to highlight all these structures. I wanted to achieve an airy, graphic, "high-key-ish" look. The image itself is a HDR made of five single (exposure bracketing) images. I first processed the images in DXO with only a few basic adjustments, before I let Lightroom do the HDR combination work. I did that, because I wanted to use the really excellent DeepPrime denoising technology that DXO offers (albeit for RAW files only). After combining the images in LR, I went into Color Efex, were I applied the filters "Brilliance and Warmth", "High Key", "Reflector Efex (Soft Gold)", and the "Skylight Filter", all individually tweaked to my liking.
P.S. I've added the geotag for the spot I've taken this image from (the central dividing strip of the Masurenallee), not for the Radio Tower itself.
