The Volkswagen Beetle is a two-door, four passenger, rear-engine economy car manufactured and marketed by German automaker Volkswagen (VW) from 1938 until 2003.
The need for this kind of car, and its functional objectives, was formulated by the leader of Nazi Germany, Adolf Hitler, who wanted a cheap, simple car to be mass-produced for his country's new road network. Hitler contracted Ferdinand Porsche in 1934 to design and build it. Porsche and his team took until 1938 to finalise the design.
The result was one of the first rear-engined cars since the Brass Era. With 21,529,464 produced, the Beetle is the longest-running and most-manufactured car of a single platform ever made.
Other platforms:
Rocketdyne produced seven serialized high-fidelity F-1 engine mock-ups. Although non-functional, they were used for early engineering purposes. Most are/were? mounted on test (i.e., non-flight) Saturn V first stages.
In this photograph, the second of these, FM-101 (the first being FM-100), was featured in a paper written by D. E. Aldrich & D. J. Sanchini of the Rocketdyne Division of North American Aviation. See:
heroicrelics.org/info/f-1/fm-101/fm-101.jpg
“I don't know exactly when FM-101 (or any of these engine mock-ups) were manufactured, but they certainly reflect an early design:
- There is no provision for thermal insulation.
- There is no interface panel.
- The fuel high-pressure ducts are straight, rather than the "U"-shaped ducts which characterized later production engines.
- The LOX dome has twin-elbow inlets.
F-1 engine mock-up FM-103 is on display in the Kennedy Space Center Rocket Garden (where, oddly enough, it is completely painted silver).”
The direct copy/paste above is in quotations, along with my paraphrasing from Mike Jetzer’s superlative “HEROIC RELICS” website, which he gleaned from Alan Lawrie’s book “Saturn” and a paper, “Saturn V Booster – The F-1 Engine”, by D. E. Aldrich, located in the Saturn V Collection, Dept. of Archives/Special Collections, M. Louis Salmon Library, University of Alabama in Huntsville, at:
heroicrelics.org/info/f-1/fm-101.html
I’m hoping the above is no longer the case, and that FM-103 was moved out of the elements into the Apollo/Saturn V Center.

Wait…one more. Look at the multiple monstrous card catalog cabinets behind the F-1! Commensurate with the size of the the engine.

While wondering the Fields of “Art Omi” in Ghent NY in search of a restroom, I came across this elaborate flushing system, WOW
This image depicts an aged yet charming façade in Citta Sant'Angelo, near Pescara, Italy, showcasing elements of historical and architectural significance. The façade consists of a staircase leading to a prominent wooden door framed by a classical arched design with Gothic influences. The upper part of the door is adorned with intricate carvings and a decorative fanlight grille featuring geometric patterns. This archway is flanked by columns and stone detailing, showing signs of wear, which lend the structure an authentic historical character.
Above the doorway, the building features two distinctive windows with bright yellow frames that contrast with the weathered plaster walls. The left window has a rounded top, evoking Romanesque inspiration, while the right one displays Gothic elements, as seen in the pointed arches and ornamental details. Both windows are fitted with textured glass, enhancing the play of light while maintaining privacy.
The weathered façade, with patches of exposed bricks and peeling plaster, narrates the passage of time. It reflects the architectural vernacular of central Italy, blending elements from different periods. This layering of styles might suggest a building constructed or modified during the transition from medieval to Renaissance influences, echoing the broader historical evolution of the Abruzzo region.
The staircase, flanked by iron railings and framed by potted plants, ties the aesthetic to the region's culture, where entrances often serve as transitional spaces between private and communal life. The small courtyard, with moss-covered paving stones, highlights the impact of the Mediterranean climate on building materials, further connecting the site to its coastal setting.
Pescara, a city in the Abruzzo region, has a rich history influenced by Roman, medieval, and Renaissance cultures. The architectural details visible in this façade reflect a mix of these traditions, embodying the enduring interplay between functionality, art, and historical transformation typical of the region.

Everything is beautiful in its own way... (Ray Stevens)
Beauty can be absolute, abstract or functional. Many beautifully functional items are not always beautiful in the traditional way. Brass pipe fitting in a carwash for the Macro Mondays group, topic: defining beauty. Happy Macro Monday!
I just realized the other day that I never posted stand-alone pictures of the snowspeeder I built for my final entry to this years IDSMO and thought I'd use the opportunity to test my new camera lense.
I tried to get as close to minifig-scale with this model as I possibly could. It's still a stud or two too long but there is only so much you can do with Lego if you still want a functional interior.
Let me know what you think of my Snowspeeder, I'd love to hear your opinion! Obviously there are still some parts that could do with some more work like the non existent upper airbrakes. If you have any ideas on how to improve the model, let me hear them! ;)
I highlighted in my photo titled "Pass the Parcel - 2" that in Autumn 2015, Pembrokeshire County Council took on the lease of a Plaxton Centro-bodied VDL SB200 for contracted Service 322 (Haverfordwest & Withybush Hospital-Narberth-Whitland-St Clears-Carmarthen & Glangwili Hospital) on behalf of the then contractor, Silcox.
Silcox had been regularly using a UVG-bodied Dennis Javelin, P780 WDE, on the contract, which had replaced an 08-plate Alexander Dennis Enviro300. January 2016 was the deadline for single-deck service buses used on registered local bus services to comply with the Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Regulations 2000 (PSVAR), which no doubt prompted the Council's actions in leasing the VDL.
Whilst Silcox had built up a sizeable fleet of former MoD vehicles, P780 WDE had been purchased new, presumably as as a cheaper option than a buying a standard coach.
This shot from March 2014 shows her in a foggy Blue Street in Carmarthen when she was on her way to Glangwili Hospital after dropping off in the Bus Station.

Azulejo
Wikipedia: Azulejo is a form of Spanish and Portuguese painted tin-glazed ceramic tile-work. Azulejos are found on the interior and exterior of churches, palaces, ordinary houses, schools, and nowadays, restaurants, bars and even railways or subway stations. They are an ornamental art form, but also had a specific functional capacity like temperature control in homes. Azulejos constitute a major aspect of Spanish architecture and Portuguese architecture to this day and are fixtures of buildings across Spain and Portugal and their former territories. Many azulejos chronicle major historical and cultural aspects of Spanish and Portuguese history.
The images were found whilst exploring Lisbon on foot.

The camera in the photo is a USSR made Lubitel 166 of 6X6 film format which I own more than 25years, since I was a kid. It is still full functional and in perfect condition. It is an object of symbolic meaning for me. It was one of the first cameras I owned and it was bought to me by my father. Although I started photography since the age of 11 with a full automatic snapshot camera that was also a gift by father, when I got more involved with photography my father presented to me full manual film cameras with no automation in order to learn the fundamentals of photography. Exposure with no light meter, By calculating the exposure, adjusting shutter speed and Aperture by calculating the light through experience and study of books, light metering charts etc. This experience led me, in the future, in better handling, understanding and use of cameras in order to achieve the desired result in my photos. All these in an age when I use to photograph with film, having to wait for film process to see the results. Through time this knowledge helped me to focus myself better on studying composition techniques. I still have many things to learn though.
The most important thing that the age of film taught me is the value of each click of the shutter in any given situation of photographing. In any case we all to photograph thousands of photos that are not artistic importance but they all do play an important part of self improvement in out personal photography skills.
So a symbolic camera of my small collection of film cameras. We must always remember and pay tribute once in a while to our past. It is from were we started our personal journey and the birth instant of our foundaments in aspects of our lives.
I have done this photo in three versions. A color version, a monochromatic and a light sepia toned which is the one you see. Monochrome was chosen to enhance the feeling of time passed and the light sepia toning to give a light sentimental nostalgic feeling. The lens used is also a vintage nikon f ais mount, Helios 81N 50mm f/2.0 which I own for more than 22years from the time this words are written. Its excellent creamy bokeh and flare creates an excelent mood.
Thanks for reading!

My seventh Iron build against jaapxaap using the White 4x4 Flower with Rounded Petals White 4x4 Flower with Rounded Pedals. Check out Iron Builder to follow the whole battle!
I used all 100 seed part in this build.
Howto:
1) Wait for a cloudlness, moonless night. Or do it after moonset or before moonrise. The moon is really really bright and it washes out the stars.
2) Set camera to continuous shooting mode. This is the mode where if you hold down the shutter release, it will just take picture after picture after picture... Set the shutter speed as long as it will go without BULB -- This is probably 30 seconds. You can experiment with different ISO and F/numbers, but generally you're going to want low F/number and high ISO. These were F/3.5 and ISO 1600.
3) put it on a tripod.
4) Focus. I've found that racking the focus all the way toward infinity doesn't quite work -- it focuses PAST infinity. So I have to focus it all the way out and then bring it back just a smidge.
5) use something to hold the shutter release button down. I used a wire wrapped around the camera with a piece of paper wadded up over the shutter release button. That keeps the button down so the camera takes picture after picture after picture...
(I'd recommend using RAW mode if you know how to process raw images. That way, you don't have to worry about white balance, and you can stretch the images appropriately without causing too much degradation.)
6) Wait a few hours. Now you've got 200 photos where the stars are slightly offset and the foreground stays relatively stationary.
(If you've used RAW images, then you now load em into your RAW processing program, set the white balance so the sky is not red, adjust for noise, etc, etc... You can process them all simultaneously with Adobe Camera RAW, and other programs probably have that same functionality...)
7) Get www.startrails.de/html/software.html and load up those images. Now it'll do two things. First it will combine all the images to smooth out the unchanging parts, getting rid of noise. Use a large number of frames to smooth it out more. Then it will essentially do a brighten command with each frame, painting the stars over the smoothed background.
Voila!
I forget exactly how many images are combined here but I think it's a bit over 200.
Other things:
Stars move fastest around the celestial equator and slowest near the celestial poles. The North Star is at the North celestial pole. If you took 200 pictures of it, it'd hardly move at all. If the camera is pointed west or east, the stars will trail faster.
Stars circle around the celestial poles, so towards the celestial equator, the trails will be fairly straight, but near the North star, they will make more pronounced circles. This image is wide angle and looking east, so the North Star is towards the top left. The effect is quite noticable.
Higher focal lengths (more zoomed in) will make stars trail faster, but I think wide angle shots usually work better. This one is at 18mm on a 1.6x crop camera.
Those weird straight lines are airplanes. There are two in this image. You may also catch sattelites and shooting stars.
