* De Volkswagen Kever, die werd gebouwd van 1938 tot 2003, is de bekendste Volkswagen, de bekendste Duitse auto.
* Tot 1967 werd hij Typ 1, 1200, 1300 genoemd (naar de motorinhoud in cc), maar in de volksmond werd hij, vanwege de vorm, kever genoemd, waarna de fabrikant die naam zelf ook ging gebruiken.
* In 1967 kregen de duurdere Kevers - eindelijk - in plaats van het 6-Volts systeem het 12-Volts systeem, zoals we dat nu ook nog kennen in auto's.
* De Kever was een combinatie van ideeën, die door Ferdinand Porsche - die van Adolf Hitler opdracht kreeg een auto voor het volk te maken - werden samengebald.
* Grote delen van de auto zijn echter niet door Porsche, maar door Béla Barényi en/of Erwin Komenda ontworpen. Beiden claimen de originele bedenker van het concept te zijn.
* Volgens anderen zou de Hongaarse Jood Josef Ganz de ontwerper zijn. Het blijft vooralsnog onduidelijk wie de werkelijke bedenker was van het concept "Kever".
* De Kever speelt een hoofdrol in de Herbie-films.
* Vanaf maart 1953 werd de achterruit van de Kever vergroot en kreeg de vorm van een ovaal. Onze Oosterburen noemen de "ovaaltjes" liefdevol "Ovali".
* In 1954 verdween de aparte startknop en kon de auto voortaan gestart worden door het omdraaien van een sleutel in het contactslot.
* Vanaf 1955 krijgt de Kever de bekende twee uitlaatpijpjes
8 Ook in dit productiejaar waren er weer veel kleine technische wijzigingen, maar de opvallendste wijziging is aan de buitenkant te zien. Er is nu een grotere voor- en achterruit.
* Vanaf augustus 1957 kreeg deze een meer vierkante vorm, die later nog een keertje vergroot zou worden.
There's nothing more fun than spending a Sunday afternoon walking around in pumpkin fields in New England in October. I shot these pumpkins on the Jones Family Farm in Shelton, Connecticut; the farm has been in the same family since the 1850's. I used a relatively normal focal length (60mm in 35 equivalent) and was able to keep everything in fairly sharp focus at a middle aperture of f/9. Spring of 2017 was a spectacular year for wildflowers throughout Southern California. The heavy rains that drenched the state during the previous winter brought about an extraordinary super bloom. While exploring the Antelope Valley, I noticed a distant patch of vivid red. I approached, and this lovely view unfolded. Here was a meadow of native California poppies (Eschscholzia californica) advancing north toward Antelope Buttes.
Charcoal Grid Cloth hangs over the Universal backlot’s Western Street set “to eliminate frontlight on background action and buildings,” Kincaid explains. “[K 5600] 18K Alphas were cantilevered on truss mounted to condors to illuminate the interior of the saloon. Flags rigged to the truss isolated each of the HMIs to a specific window so the separate sources weren’t revealed in the atmospheric smoke.”
