Sri Lanka - Sinharaja Forest Reserve - The yellow-fronted barbet (Psilopogon flavifrons) is an Asian barbet which is an endemic resident breeder in Sri Lanka. The barbets get their name from the bristles which fringe their heavy bills.

This is a medium-sized barbet at 21 cm. It is a plump bird, with a short neck, large head and short tail. The adult yellow-fronted barbet has a mainly green body and wing plumage, with a scaly appearance to the breast. It has a blue face and throat, and a yellow crown and moustachial stripes. The white-fronted tern is the most common tern on the New Zealand coastline, at times occurring in flocks of many hundreds or even thousands of birds. It is mainly a marine species that is seldom found far from the coast. The name ‘white-fronted’ refers to the ‘frons’ or forehead, where a thin strip of white separates the black cap from the black bill. Most other ‘capped’ terns, including the black-fronted tern, have black caps that reach the bill when in breeding plumage. The scientific name striata refers to the finely-barred (striated) dorsal plumage of recently fledged white-fronted terns, as the original description and name was based on a juvenile bird painted by William Ellis, surgeon’s second mate on the Discovery, on Captain Cook’s third visit to New Zealand.

Thank you my Flickr friends. Two days in a row. How can this be?

Golden-fronted Woodpecker fight. The second bird came in slightly out of focal plane but I'll take it. Taken in pre-capture mode.

This male was showing off his beautiful red and yellow head markings as he inspected the suet I had placed on that old tree stump in my yard. It was a cold and snowy day in February 2022. Montell, Uvalde County, Texas

There are three attractive beaches are close to the village of Monreith. The largest is Monreith Bay. It is best visited at low tide when the wide expanse of sand is exposed. To reach it, park beside the A747 and take the long flight of 152 steps down to the beach below where there are public toilets. Just to the south of Monreith are the two beaches of Front and Back Bay. They are reached off the road to the St Medan's Golf Club, with a public car park beside Back Bay. Just off the road you'll see a bronze sculpture of an otter, a memorial to Gavin Maxwell, author of Ring of Bright Water. He spent his childhood at Monreith.

Front of a quick shirt I did for a mate.

Couldn't be doing with all the cleaning up that comes with using the foam roller method so sprayed straight onto the shirt. Kept the sprays nice and light so it didn't get all hard and nasty.

The white-fronted nunbird is a species of near passerine bird in the puffbird family. It is found in the tropical Americas. This glossy black or gray-black bird with a stout, medium red-orange bill is named for the white face markings on the cere, the base of its bill and on the upper throat.

This one was photographed in Costa Rica guided by Neotropic Photo Tours.

The Peach-fronted Parakeet was one of several parakeet species that we observed during our visit to the Pantanal. I ran across this one on my way to breakfast and I was so entertained watching it have its meal that I pretty much missed my meal.
