Greater White-fronted Geese - Kolganzen (Anser Albifrons)

NB For those of you who think all geese look exactly alike, this species had a pinkish bill (instead of orange) and a white patch at the base of its bill. Also very distinctive are the dark markings on the breast of adult birds,

The similar yet much smaller Lesser white-fronted goose (Anser erythropus) also has a yellow ring around its eye.

Les hirondelles à front blanc trouvent leur nourriture au dessus des marais et des terrains à découvert. Elles y trouvent aussi la boue dont elles ont besoin pour construire leurs nids.

Toronto, Autumn 2015. Before the snow. ;-)

Every year, for a few days around October 19, the sun sets down in the middle of Front street, between the towers.

This is the first year my Bird of Paradise plant, which I've had for over a decade, has had multiple flowers (5 !!) and the rose bush is busting out all over.

The Perturbed Sanctum

I am sitting at home with Covid looking at this photo and thinking "this is not Christmas fare", but it isn't Christmas yet...so I am going to post it.

Two turrets in front, plus this one in back, make for 9 of these formidable 16" cannons that fired the projectiles (shells) shown to the right of the turret. Even if the battleship became obsolete by the end of WWII, this was still an awesome sight. I cannot even imagine what those guns would have sounded like when they fired, although I have seen some videos that give an idea.

The ship probably needed a lot of its (water) displacement just to absorb the concussion from firing (otherwise known as the reaction in "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction").

And again, if you served in the Armed Forces, you have my admiration!

The "front yard" of an old homestead in rural Idaho. This was a large home for it's time and I bet has lots of ranch stories to tell.

Even an ole road dog gets to enjoy the serenity of country living every now and then.

The front of the Batmobile is really the main part that was changed between this model and the previous version. I was rather fond of my original concept for the Batmobile about having a battering ram mounted to the front of the Batmobile but people often remarked upon how it looked rather bulky. As such, I decided to tweak it and had the added bonus of making it look somewhat like the head of a bat in the process.

Probably the other most notable addition is the two mounted canons on the front of the Batmobile. At first I was a tad hesitant to put any form of weaponry on the front of the vehicle but decided to add them more because I struggled to believe that Batman wouldn't have his Batmobile unprepared for every situation. As such, the front canons are intended to fire a variety of equipment from rubber bullets to grapples and tow cables in the event of a car chase or incase he needs to winch a vehicle to safety.

The canons also have 50 calibre ammunition in case he needs to incapacitate a vehicle or clear the path of obstacles that might damage the Batmobile if the car was to hit them head on.

Last one from this series.

This is what I found this morning when I opened the blinds in the Den window. This baby is about ten feet from the front of the house. I'm watching for Mom to come and get him/her. You can see the reflection of the house in its eye.

Le Ferte-Mace a wonderful floral town in Normandy. The church had a wonderful facade. We made just a quick visit but a very enjoyable walk around town.

It's a work of art. :-)

This is the front door to the house that Charles lived in, he refused to sell when the Gov't was buying up the Delaware Water Gap valley to make a reservoir as part of the Tocks Island Dam Project. Charles and his family lived here without electricity during the 70s and 80s. I happened to befriend Charles around 1984 while driving around, he was working a small garden in his front yard and my friend dared me to get a couple of pictures of him. I jumped out on my MG and asked if I could take some shots while he worked, Charles said that would be fine. One of the shots hangs in my hallway and it was the first print that I signed. I visited Charles a few times after that, we would sit on this porch and he would tell me stories. Sometimes we hiked to various parts of his farm while he explained the history of the area. It amazed me that he could hike as fast as I could, I was 27 Charles was a young 84. I moved away after a bit and I don't know what happened to Charles or his family but the house is still standing and I still visit every so often.

'Front Range Compression' Large On Black

Two things about living in the Front Range in Colorado are prominent icons for me: the Rocky Mountains and giant Cottonwoods in the undeveloped lands. The most prominent mountain in the background is Long's Peak, you can just make out the peak's famous keyhole where most hikers go through to reach the summit of this 14,000 ft+ mountain.

Here I went with a 300 mm F4 lens with a 1.4x converter for an effective 35mm focal length of 630 mm, definitely not your typical landscape lens of choice. I used the telephoto to achieve the compression/layering of the mountains behind the tree.

ODC-Steps

These are the front steps.

Here's a more updated December 11, 2016 view, showing some of the new signage installed on the front of the building. Very odd-looking scene, but it looks as if that upper front piece with the sign on it has some of that peeling protective wrap on it, similar (I would think) to the stuff they often put on new vehicles when shipped from the factory.

UP 1370, a 1974 graduate of La Grange lays over outside of the D&RGW station in Colorado Springs, CO. While the Armour Yellow is a bit of a bummer to see, this unit was originally the DRGW 3119, and its Rio Grande paint lasted until 2011. From that point, the unit has spent most all of its time out in California, but I was lucky enough to have shot it out here on the Front Range, right back where she belongs.

47285 propels 6M73 Severn Tunnel Junction - Aintree Metal Box into the factory at Aintree sometime in 1988.

The dirt track in front of the locomotive was a cinder path which led from Parkfield Avenue along the side of the factory to Heysham Road, and behind the camera the locally referred to 'Metal Box Hills', the scene of much young tomfoolery.

The other local landmark in the picture is the 'Movie' chimney, belonging to the Peerless factory on Dunnings Bridge Road, and was an advert for its all purpose cleaning product.

An old panorama that I got a request for a print of. I had to rework the original photos with what I've learned over the last few years. Much improved.
