Fish shop on The Stade at Hastings which opens in the morning as soon as the first boats come back in with a catch. The smaller boats go out well before dawn and come back four or five hours later. This shop and a couple of others on the beach sell the morning's catch direct to the public and local restaurants - can't get any fresher than that! RX16 'Our Lady' in the background.
……A look back at Norfolk with fond memories, like many coastal places the mist can change the mood dramatically in minutes! And thankfully it can clear in a moment too! Come rain or shine, mist or clear the fish is always best fresh and you can’t get fresher than this!!….. Alan:-)

Pacific salmon die after they spawn and the ones caught by the grizzly bears are often in pretty poor shape. This female grizzly caught one that was in very good condition, Chilko Lake, British Columbia.

The guys behind the fish counter thought it was funny that I was taking this photo, and a woman who walked by said, "Look, that one's smiling!" One photo a day. (320.366) North Shore Farms, Whitestone, Queens, NYC -- November 15, 2020
Brown bears dine on many things, but none is more thrilling than when they dine on freshly caught salmon. During the salmon run, these bears congregate around in the water, picking their favorite fishing holes. They stand there patiently, watching and learning the location of the salmon, how they move in the water, etc. When they're ready they begin the chase, or in some cases, the pounce. Sometimes multiple salmon jump out of the water in unison, desperate to escape the claws or jaws of these big bears. It must be frightening to the salmon, who are simply trying to get back to their spawning location to complete their circle of life. To the observer, it's quite exhilarating to see the speed and power that these bears possess. To the bear though, it's a matter of survival. Salmon contribute greatly to the storing of the fat needed to get them through the winter's hibernation.
One last thing is how quickly they consume their catch ... and just how efficiently they fillet it as well.
Happy Thursday everyone!

The smells of the wet markets in the Philippines are permanently imprinted in my brain cells. Shot in the port city of Dumaguete, in the Visayas region, The Philippines. Reprocessed without painterly effects.

Found at Circle B Bar Reserve, a wetland reserve south of Lakeland, Florida. These birds (Ardea herodias) measure 42-52 inches (105-130 cm) from beak-tip to tail-tip.

Since sockeye salmon die after spawning, often the salmon being caught by the grizzly bears on the salmon rivers are in sub-prime condition or are already dead. This bear has caught a bright red sockeye salmon in prime condition for her meal. Notice the little splash of water from the fish tail. Cariboo-Chilcotin, BC.
