Delivered to BNSF in January 2015, this ES44C4 has only been on the road for two months and has the fresh paint to prove it. The new GEVO is leading CSX train Q016 through Altenwald and around the curve at Fetterhoff Chapel Road. Exhaust plumes out the stacks as the ES44C4 and the trailing 20-year-old CSX AC44CW pull up the grade towards New Franklin.

The previous night’s new snow covers the trees of this conifer forest
This is another photograph from my recent week in Yosemite Valley in late February — and a cold and snowy week it was! But that was good news during a winter that had previously bene characterized by nearly a month of no precipitation and by well above-average temperatures. Yosemite Valley is always more picturesque after (or during) snow, but the climatological backdrop made this even more true this year.
I drove down into the Valley on this morning after snowfall the night before. There wasn't a lot of snow — perhaps 4-5 inches where I had stayed overnight and no more than an inch or two in most of the Valley. But in many ways that was just about the perfect amount. On this very cold morning the snow stayed in the trees, and the thin layer still allowed the darker colors and shapes of the branches and tree trunks to be visible. As I came to this spot I noticed that the snow-lined trees were back-lit, so I stopped, wandered into the forest, and photographed... and before long the sun passed behind the upper edges of high cliffs, the area was in shade, and the opportunity was gone.

Durante nuestro reciente viaje fotográfico a Lofoten hemos sufrido todo tipo de contratiempos, desde intensas nevadas hasta los devastadores efectos del huracán Ole que nos mantuvo sin luz y sin calefaccion más de 24 horas y por poco nos impide salir de las islas en la fecha prevista.... Pero tambien hemos vivido momentos mágicos de luz... Con ganas de volver el próximo invierno ;-)
Realizada con el sistema LucrOit 165 usando un filtro de cristal de la misma marca ND de 6 pasos.

During our recent photographic trip to Lofoten we have suffered all kind of problems from heavy snow to the devastating effects of the hurricane Ole which kept us without light and heating over 24 hours and almost keeps us leave the islands as scheduled... But we have also lived magical moments of light... Looking forward to returning next winter ;-)

A pair of new BNSF ES44DCs and a Norfolk Southern (former Conrail) C40-8W zip west on the east end of the Chicago Subdivision in 2005.
Rolling on the close track with an intermodal, it wasn't the best shot as most westbound moves are on the other tracks.
Oh, well.

Last year our blueberry bushes did not produce ANY blueberries. This year, one of them is loaded with berries. It's still early, but I'm getting about 30 berries a day right now. It's enough for snacks or making blueberry pancakes, but I'll have to hit up the blueberry farm to have enough for muffins and pies. (That won't be for a week or two)

Not for the squeamish... This Northern Saw Whet Owl was enjoying a lunch of fresh caught deer mouse. I have had opportunity to watch them catch and eat a number of times, and in almost every instance, after picking away at the top half of the mouse, they then swallow the back half in one piece, which is quite the feat for such a small owl.
It interesting to see the size comparison of the mouse to the owl... though it will take the owl over an hour from start to finish he will eat the whole mouse...

A fresh fall of snow greeted me this morning as we set off to hike the Ice Lake Trail near Whitehorse in Southern Yukon. The snow continued and picked up in intensity during our hike, which made for some beautiful scenes.
This photo taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro mounted to a tripod. The final image was processed from raw in Lightroom with a VSCO film preset, which added just a little to the colour and texture of the photo.

This was taken during an outing at the Rhododendron Species Foundation in Federal Way last month. Being located in the "Evergreen State" as it is, of course it was raining, lol.
I liked the fresh spring green look.
