Sisymbrium irio L.; London rocket

A delightful and tasty plant. London Rocket Mustard is a naturalized plant in the Sonoran Desert. It spreads freely and blooms in my desert garden in Central Tucson at about the same time as in Sabino Canyon, northeast of Tucson, Arizona.

I should trim these seed strings off to see if new flowers will come along...

Jane Haddad's recipe for a London Rocket Smoothie sounds wonderful. I will try it today.

greensmoothiehabit.com/video/recipes/10-recipes/203-londo...

Jane Haddad's Recipe

"My London Rocket green smoothie contains wild greens (London Rocket is an edible winter weed) and is a simple, savory cocktail. Before you go picking wild greens, get educated so you don't poison yourself..."

See Jane's page for links to wild greens experts.

"London Rocket is a common wild green like lambsquarters and dandelion."

My Secret Ingredient

"So, I decided to go with a savory smoothie, and we're not gonna use a whole bunch of it, because it is strong, so I took some of the London Rocket leaves off of the stem and I'm using a small handful. Add this small handful of the London Rocket to your blender. Now for my special ingredient. A sprig of fresh rosemary. It's so intoxicating. It has such an aromatic, perfume-y smell to it. I thought it might be just the right thing to accent the mustardy like London Rocket. We're gonna find out today. So, I'm adding one sprig and I took the little leaves of the rosemary off of the stem, so you see you have just a little bit like this. Smells so wonderful. The thought of eating it and getting into new greens for my green smoothies is very exciting."

"We must introduce new greens into our green smoothie rotation. It keeps our appetite for green smoothies alive, and it's good for our nutrition. And rosemary is anti-inflammatory. Then I'm going to use 3 Roma tomatoes, also known as plum tomatoes. Look at that... the tomatoes have a lot of juice in them, so I'm not going to add any water to this. I want to make it like a thick cocktail. Add all 3 tomatoes to the Vitamix."

"Here's what you've got: small handful of the London Rocket, the leaves from the one sprig of rosemary, and 3 plum tomatoes. Plum tomatoes are kind of meaty, too, so that's why I chose them. Blend it up. It should only take 20-30 seconds. So excited to have a new smoothie for myself and for you. This is a savory, low glycemic, London Rocket cocktail."

Something New

"I think I've come up with something new here. The London Rocket and the Rosemary. Wow... ... very mild. Oh, and a word of caution about going out and picking your own edibile weeds. I did not pick this myself. Morgan got it direct from the farmer at the orchard and then she gave me some. I am not an edibile wild weed expert. I don't even trust myself to go out there, other than dandelion, and know what I'm doing."

"So, get your education before you go and pick a weed and decide to eat it, because there are plenty of poisonous weeds out there. This is a winner. This is a success. I get so excited when something I'm thinking about in my head actually comes out in the blender and then I can taste it and truly enjoy it."

It does sound delicious!

Cattle freely roam the public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in Wyoming. While overlanding in BLM, I was woken up early one morning by a cow that licked and knocked the side of the truck. Other than saliva on the truck, it fortunately did not do any damage. On another occasion, a rancher stopped me and ask if I had seen his cow anywhere. When they roam vast areas, I guess it can be hard to track them down.

By the way, did you know that cattle/cows can be dangerous. They have killed people... and I' under the impression that walking with a dog can provoke them. If you are interested, search the internet regarding this.

Ain't it hard when you wake up in the morning

And you find out that those other days are gone?

All you have is memories of happiness

Lingerin' on

You might wonder who can I turn to

On this cold and chilly night of gloom

The answer to that question

Is nowhere in this room

All your dreams and your lovers won't protect you

They're only passing through you in the end

They'll leave you stripped of all that they can get to

And wait for you to come back again

You might wonder who I can turn to

On this cold and chilly night of gloom

The answer to that question

Is nowhere in this room

Yet still a light is shining

From that lamp on down the hall

Maybe the star of Bethlehem

Wasn't a star at all

(Star of Bethlehem- Neil Young)

Endemic to the Yucatan Peninsula and neighbouring Guatemala, the Ocellated Turkey is smaller and more colourful than its domestic cousin of Thanksgiving fame. In Guatemala's Tikal National Park, they wander freely among the ruins of the ancient Mayan city of Tikal.

A herd of delightful Dartmoor ponies roam freely at this glorious headland in Cornwall. Two mares had recently given birth, this was one of the foals. The miracle of life. Such a tender capture.

I have brought the sky to you

Leave this unrelenting earth

What kindness did it show you

Except a massacre of truth

Loosen your bonds and move freely

Become what you are worth

Could anyone have shown more love

Could anyone have died more cruelly

Surely you are now your true self

Pure light of the spirit

Let go of that last breath

No more torture or death

Move forwards without regret

Thank you to everybody who has so kindly viewed, faved & commented on the first work in this Easter Series, "Sacrifice". I think what I shall do is a massive catch up with you all after the last work in this series goes up on Easter Day. Then I can enjoy all your galleries again!

So meanwhile...for Good Friday I have chosen one of my “Christ Tree” images, as this particular tree seems to embody the evocative feelings that gazing upon these series of photographs that I took at that time in my life always brings me, even now, some time after.

Christ was the World Tree, that we cut down. We potentially cut down our own future, but He knew that these memories would remain, that His sacrifice would never be forgotten while there were people who resisted the curtailment of freedom of spiritual choice in this world.

This living Christ Tree shows that love can still grow if we let it, that compassion can still flourish. But this living Christ Tree is also a reminder that all living things can contain a sorrow within them, as we carry our memories with us, not just from events in our own lives but also from events in the past, from our history.

This living Christ Tree is a reminder that we are part of the life on this planet, that what we do affects everybody else, we can never really escape it, because this life is all around us, and what we have made of it, for good or ill.

There comes a time when we must leave our lives on this earth, and let our souls travel on; how brave are those who choose to sacrifice themselves to further mankind’s understanding. But even for them, the light will come to relieve them of their burdens, enabling them to finally rest. Christ was such an individual, part human, part divine.

There is a spark of divinity in all of us, and will respond if given a chance to grow. The world could be a much better place if we listened to that voice telling us how things could be. All we have to do is turn to the Light.

*****

The Christ Tree was photographed in Sussex in the UK, near a village called Wilmington, and one of my most favourite places to be. In the right light, the Christ Tree speaks to you.

I have paired this work with Ólafur Arnald’s wonderful piece of music “Epilogue”, which has that sense of a final ‘letting go’ that captures the mood I was trying to create with this work for Good Friday. Please find link below.

The blue

(David Gilmour)

Shameless sea

Aimlessly so blue

Midnight-moon shines for you

Still, marooned

Silence drifting through

Nowhere to choose

Just blue...

Ceaselessly

Star-crossed you and me

Save our souls

We'll be forever blue

Waves roll

Lift us in blue

Drift us

Seep right through

And colour us blue

Wait for me

Shameless you, the sea

Soon, the Blue

So soon...

Can you spot the spider? Because I freely admit I had no idea it was there when I took the picture. I was in a forest in deep shade, shooting the plant, and only later on the computer saw the spider. By pure luck I managed to nail the focus on its eyes. The plant is called Pinedrops (Pterospora andromedea). It grows (mostly) in the western half of N. America, typically in pine forests. The leafless flower stalks lack chlorophyll and pop up from the shady forest floor, getting a couple of feet tall. But the plant largely exists as underground roots that are parasitic on the mycelium (thread-like underground fungal network) of a mushroom that itself draws nutrition from the roots of pine trees. I think the dry seed capsules look like tiny pumpkins, which is especially seasonally appropriate when a crab spider hangs out on them. Happy Arachtober.

A song so famous that it was generally believed to be by an anonymous author: as such it was mistakenly included in the "primitive GCCs", and hence in the site at first. In fact, it is now a popular song (whose fame began with its adoption as the "anthem" of Martin Luther King's civil rights movement in 1963); but the author is Pete Seeger, who was inspired by a 19th century Negro spiritual, "No More Auction Block for me" (a chilling title) for the music and the gospel. ..) for the music and to the gospel "I'll Overcome Some Day" by Charles Tindley (1900) for the words. [Riccardo Venturi, 6.11.04].

We shall overcome,

We shall overcome,

We shall overcome, some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe

We shall overcome some day.

We shall live in peace,

We shall live in peace,

We shall live in peace some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe

we shall overcome some day.

We'll walk hand in hand

We'll walk hand in hand

We'll walk hand in hand some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe

we shall overcome some day.

Black and white together,

Black and white together.

Black and white together some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe

We shall overcome some day.

We are not afraid,

We are not afraid,

We are not afraid today!

Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe

We shall overcome some day.

The whole wide world around

The whole wide world around

The whole wide world around some day.

Oh, deep in my heart, I do believe

We shall overcome some day.

When morning comes to Morgantown

The merchants roll their awnings down

The milktrucks make their morning rounds

In morning, Morgantown

We'll rise up early, with the sun

To ride the bus while everyone is yawning

And the day is young

In morning, Morgantown

Morning Morgantown

Buy your dreams a dollar down

Morning any town you name

Morning's just the same

We'll find a table in the shade

And sip our tea and lemonade

And watch the morning on parade

In morning, Morgantown

Ladies in their rainbow fashions

Colored stop and go lights flashing

We'll wink at total strangers passing in

Morning, Morgantown

Morning Morgantown

Buy your dreams a dollar down

Morning any town you name

Morning's just the same

I'd like to buy you everything

A wooden bird with painted wings

A window full of colored rings

In morning, Morgantown

But the only thing I have to give

To make you smile, to win you with

Are all the mornings still to live

In morning, Morgantown

Morning Morgantown

Buy your dreams a dollar down

Morning any town you name

Morning's just the same

Morning's just the same

And when the roses are half-bud soft flowers

And lovely as the king of flies has come

It was a fleeting visit, all too brief

In three short minutes, he had been and gone

Although the garden is a lovely place

Was it worthy of so fine a guest

Rows and flows of angel hair

And ice cream castles in the air

And feather canyons everywhere

Looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun

They rain and they snow on everyone

So many things I would have done

But clouds got in my way

I've looked at clouds from both sides now

From up and down and still somehow

It's cloud illusions I recall

I really don't know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels

The dizzy dancing way that you feel

As every fairy tale comes real

I've looked at love that way

But now it's just another show

And you leave 'em laughing when you go

And if you care, don't let them know

Don't give yourself away

I've looked at love from both sides now

From give and take and still somehow

It's love's illusions that I recall

I really don't know love

Really don't know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud

To say, "I love you" right out loud

Dreams and schemes and circus crowds

I've looked at life that way

Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange

And they shake their heads and they tell me that I've changed

Well something's lost, but something's gained

In living every day

I've looked at life from both sides now

From win and lose and still somehow

It's life's illusions I recall

I really don't know life at all

It's life's illusions that I recall

I really don't know life

I really don't know life at all

What mainly inspired me for this build:

- intergalactic racing pit stop station something by LEGOLIZE IT MAN (2018).

- Bastard of Winterfell by dasnewten (2011).

- UNES Odyssey 21 by Kyle Collard (2013). I don't recall very well but I think this inspired me for the sensor array and the general black aesthetic behind the hull.

This is my tribute to that glorious era in the 2010's when people like dasnewten, Red Spacecat, LEGOLIZE IT MAN, Ryan Olsen, Alexander Safarik, Tim Schwalfenberg, only to name a few (find all the others in my favorites), were building all those amazing microspace ships more or less inspired by Homeworld universe, or with a brick-built hull.

At the end of Corona month of April they first appeared in the streets of the Dutch city of Schiedam behind the windows of residents and shops: posters with consoling art (‘troostkunst’). The original works of art by more than fifty artists are now on display in Municipal Museum Schiedam.

I count four nests in the same oak tree located right next to the lake. In between gathering food for the babies they are constantly running off every other bird species that come close to the nests. There is an exception! The Red-winged blackbird and the Eastern Kingbird mingle in each others nest sites freely. This bird is directly over the blackbirds nest.

Amur tiger or Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) is considered the world's largest feline.

A fully grown male can weigh approx. 150–300 kg (on average 160–190 kg) and measures up to 330 cm from tip of snout to root of tail. The shoulder height is around 120 centimetres.

The female is generally much smaller and often weighs approx. 100–150 kg (on average 110–130 kg) and measures up to 260 cm from tip of snout to root of tail.

The photo was taken in Kristiansand Dyrepark, which is a zoo and amusement park located in Kristiansand, Norway. It is Norway's most visited attraction, with an area of 60 hectares (150 acres).

What I value most about this park is that the animals have large areas and enclosures with forest, in which they can move freely and hide in.

Is it hotter when it is cloudy?

If skies are clear, heat emitted from the earth's surface freely escapes into space, resulting in colder temperatures. However, if clouds are present, some of the heat emitted from the earth's surface is trapped by the clouds and reemitted back towards the earth.

A guarirmi chi fu

Ho paura a dirti che sei tu

Ora noi siamo già più vicini

Io vorrei, non vorrei, ma se vuoi

Come può uno scoglio

Arginare il mare

Anche se non voglio

Torno già a volare

Le distese azzurre

E le verdi terre

Le discese ardite

E le risalite

Su nel cielo aperto

E poi giù il deserto

E poi ancora in alto

Quasi sperso in quel letto così ampio

Torno già a volare

Le distese azzurre

E le verdi terre

Le discese ardite

E le risalite

Su nel cielo aperto

E poi giù il deserto

E poi ancora in alto

Con un grande salto

Where do you go when you are alone?

The memory, as you know, is not consoling

When she left, for example

I turned my house into a temple

And since then only today I no longer rave

To heal me who it was

I'm afraid to tell you that it's you

Now we're already closer

I would, I wouldn't, but if you want

How can a rock

Curb the sea

Even if I don't want to

I'm already flying again

The blue expanses

And green lands

The bold descents

And the climbs

Up into the open sky

And then down into the desert

And then up again

With a great leap

Where do you go when you're alone?

You know you can't fly without wings

That day I found myself

Almost lost in that bed so wide

Stalactites on the ceiling my days with her

I embraced death

I am afraid to tell you that for you

I woke up

Now between us only a step

I would like, I would not like but if you want

How can a rock

Curb the sea

Even if I don't want to

I'm already flying again

The blue expanses

And green lands

The bold descents

And the climbs

Up into the open sky

And then down into the desert

And then up again

With a great leap

Garden roses are predominantly hybrid roses that are grown as ornamental plants in private or public gardens. They are one of the most popular and widely cultivated groups of flowering plants, especially in temperate climates. An enormous number of garden cultivars have been produced, especially over the last two centuries, though roses have been known in the garden for millennia beforehand. While most garden roses are grown for their flowers, often in dedicated rose gardens, some are also valued for other reasons, such as having ornamental fruit, providing ground cover, or for hedging. Roses are one of the most popular garden shrubs in the world with both indoor and outdoor appeal. They possess a number of general features that cause growers and gardeners to choose roses for their gardens. This includes the wide range of colours they are available in; the generally large size of flower, larger than most flowers in temperate regions; the variety of size and shape; the wide variety of species and cultivars that freely hybridize.

Pixquote:

"Sometimes it's the air, sometimes it's the smell. Sometimes it's the sound of water, sometimes it's the stillness. It's tapping into the transcendent, and teaching your heart to see it, and making your eyes and hands express it that creates unique photographs."

-Adaptation of a Gil Dellinger's quote on painting.

From the Vault.....

I've had a chance to revisit some old images and came across this one that I hadn't posted.

From a visit to Dubbo Zoo with great friend and fellow flickr tog Joe Micallef some time ago.

These birds were flying freely around the zoo and making the most of picking up food scraps that some visitors left behind in the picnic area.

Hope you like this image.

Sincere thanks for any comment, views or favorites for this or any of my other images - always appreciated!!

Wishing you a fantastic day and weekend!!

My dear mum passed away yesterday. She had been unwell for quite some time. She went ever so peacefully.

Πατουλιά Τρικάλων Patoulia Trikala

on my blog ΛΟΓΕΙΚΩΝ Logicon

These beautiful horses are members of a small herd that lives freely in the meadows of Patoulias Trikala in front of the mansion in the background

It is an old residence of landlords, its year of foundation is 1903 and carries nostalgic memories because the legendary Greek film "The soil was painted red" was shot there.

That's we had gone to visit with my wife when the fascinating aforementioned encounter with the adorable animals occurred.

Five Arches, the only remaining medieval gateway leading inside the seaside town of Tenby, on the western side of Carmarthen Bay, in Pembrokeshire, South Wales.

The Tenby town walls are Grade I listed medieval defensive structures. They are assessed as one of the most important surviving medieval city walls in Britain. The walls were built in the 13th century by the Earls of Pembroke and improved in the 1450s. They were last known to have been repaired in 1588 and have declined thereafter.

There were originally four gates, but the Great or Carmarthen Gate was removed in 1781, the South Gate in 1797 and the Quay Gate in 1811. Only the semi-circular Five Arches Gate survives. Six towers survive, although there may have been up to 24 originally. At one time there were walls connecting the city to Tenby Castle, but they are no longer extant.

The walls are generally built of rubble stone with arrow loops and a crenelated parapet. There is a short stretch west from Upper Frog Street, along White Lion Street to the bastion at the corner of White Lion Street and South Parade and then the most intact portion runs south beside South Parade and St Florence Parade to the sea.

The Marshal family, Earls of Pembroke to 1245, may have started construction of the walls, replacing an earthen rampart of the late 12th century, and they were completed by William de Valence, 1st Earl of Pembroke after Tenby was sacked in 1260 by Llewelyn ap Gruffydd. Jasper Tudor, Duke of Bedford ordered the walls repaired and improved in 1457. They were raised 5 feet in height and widened to allow the garrison to move about freely. The moat surrounding the town was also widened to a width of 30 feet. The walls were repaired in 1588; there is a tablet on the wall commemorates the work.

(though I wanna post new one more earlier time , my schedule can't let me do so.. thanks for your visit)

The wine was flowing freely (between the hours of 3:00 and 3:30)

Before departing San Diego we went up to the Mariner's Reception up in the Crow's Nest on Deck 9. It's sort of a thank you for choosing us again for folks who have cruised with Holland America before. They pour lots and lots of sparkling wine and the waiters are kept hopping the whole time because as we all know old people will always take free stuff. If you don't believe me just stop by your local Costco (or Sam's Club) around lunch time. You'll be battling with the grazers to get down the aisles!

When you take a cruise holiday your every need is catered to and you've got nothing to worry about.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that there are a LOT of people both in the front and back of the house that make things happen for your dream vacation. Folks that aren't on holiday, they're working at their jobs to provide for their families back home.

If you should ever go on a cruise I hope that you won't forget these folks and will let them know that you appreciate the hard work they put in to make things easy for you. They bust their butts so that you don't have to.

The Pine River is flowing freely with it's decent population of trout swimming it's crystal clear waters, as it flows under the covered bridge in the village of Saxville, Wisconsin on this fine autumn afternoon.
