Photography is expensive sometimes, isn't it?
Luckily after the first glass broke, the rest of the set wasn't worth anything with one missing, which allowed me to carry on shooting.
I thought the result looked kind of arty, something you might stare at in a cafe whilst trying to force down something pretentious made with asparagus, and using nothing but a cocktail stick because that's what everyone is expecting of you in there.
Nature seems to hold its breath, draped in a fragile layer of frost, as if bracing for the weight of the snow to come. Each branch carries the icy stillness of winter, waiting patiently for the sun’s warmth to bring it back to life. 🌿

You've already seen the digisnap version of this so here's the more considered LF version. I wanted to emphasise the threatening bulk of the cliff above the delicate plants....
When looking at photos (mine and those shot by others), I really crave something past the surface. I spend a lot of time hyper-analyzing a lot of my photos, asking, "do I feel anything?" "do I care?" "why do I care?" "is it just pretty, or is there something more to it?"
Sometimes the answer isn't what I'd like it to be. I want a picture to make me feel something. It's one reason I like wedding photography and have learned that there's more than just a shot of a bride and groom--it's what you feel, what THEY feel about it that makes the picture powerful. It's my job to find the meaning. That applies to landscapes just as much.
Not everything I've posted to Flickr over the years makes me feel something deep. Initially, there's a wild glee that the picture "came out" at all. That's a feeling all by itself. But I've learned from others and through my own growth that there's more. Now I'm a feeling junky, where I search through Flickr, books, the internet in general and my own photos for shots that stir something deeper.
One shocking moment I had was with a particular photo of mine, which is fairly technically perfect, has pretty colors, is insanely popular, and by all measures should make me feel something fairly strong. Instead, I get very little but a pretty picture. It even won a fairly prestigious photo contest! So strange.
So here's to you, all you fantastic photographers who make me feel all sorts of fantastic stuff through your photos: longing, joy, sadness, anger, wanderlust and a gamut of other things.
(and this photo? I love the delicacy, the fragility, the sense that it's temporary and beautiful and one of those moments that matter--a longing and a fear)

This diminutive fern shows up in moist woodlands in southern Ohio by April each year. It is later often dwarfed by larger species that share the same habitat.

found washed up by the sea. i think it is the breast bone from a bird - maybe a duck? it is always interesting to see what makes it ashore in one piece, so delicate and fragile, when other shells and bits get smashed to pieces in the waves.

Among the smallest of damselflies in this area. I spotted it flying or probably would have missed it. Thankfully it landed on a peppervine leaf which is big enough for the auto-focus on my camera to work properly. When these tiny damselflies perch on a small stem or narrow grass blade, I usually have trouble getting a good auto-focus.
