“Es tiempo de romper con las fronteras que dividen nuestro municipio en
dos: un Querétaro de progreso y un Querétaro que todavía no cubre las
necesidades más elementales”, demandó Roberto Loyola Vera al señalar que
“parece que hoy el gobierno municipal es más un obstáculo, que un respaldo
en la vida de la gente”.
En su cierre simbólico de campaña y ante un pletórico Auditorio Josefa
Ortiz de Domínguez, el candidato de la coalición PRI-PVEM-PANAL a la
Presidencia Municipal de Querétaro se comprometió a formar “un gobierno que
deje de mirarse como un negocio para unos cuantos y que cumpla en los
hechos con las necesidades básicas a las que hoy no tienen derecho los
ciudadanos”.
Ante poco más de 7 mil seguidores reunidos para participar en ésta fiesta
de la democracia, el candidato de la alianza ‘Compromiso por Querétaro’
dijo que se equivocaron quienes creyeron que la verdad nunca los alcanzaría
y quienes apostaron a la difamación para encubrir sus mentiras.
“Se equivocaron, dijo, quienes quisieron hacer de esta elección, una
campaña de simulaciones, espejismos y cortinas de humo. En esta elección se
trató de contrastar valores, ideas, intereses y pasiones. Mi pasión es
gobernar con una nueva actitud”.
Acompañado de su inseparable esposa, Lucy Huber de Loyola, y de sus hijos
Luz María, Roberto, María Andrea, Antonio y Carlota, el priísta reconoció
que los queretanos constituyen una sociedad informada, reflexiva y con la
madurez para elegir el camino que más convenga a Querétaro.
Ante una multitud entusiasta, que ondeaba sus banderas mientras coreaba el
nombre del aspirante priísta, Roberto Loyola reiteraba en ese marco su
compromiso de hacer una administración municipal que rinda cuentas, un
gobierno honesto y comprometido a destinar cada peso que los ciudadanos
pagan de impuestos, a la construcción de un municipio donde se viva mejor.
“Es tiempo de gobernar en equipo, que sume esfuerzos con pequeños, medianos
y grandes empresarios; con la sociedad civil; con especialistas y con
Gobierno del Estado, para que Querétaro sea un municipio más competitivo,
un municipio que generé más empleos y mejores salarios”, aseveró.
En compañía de las dirigencias Estatal y Municipal del PRI, así como de
candidatos de la coalición a diferentes cargos de elección popular, Roberto
Loyola indicó que es momento de que los ciudadanos pasen de la queja a la
exigencia.
“Es momento de que sean ustedes los que vigilen el quehacer de sus
gobiernos y exijan cuentas claras. Por ello, los que gobernemos debemos
aceptar ser observados y cuestionados por nuestros resultados”, señaló
Loyola Vera.
Al señalar que su principal compromiso será que cada persona tenga acceso a
servicios de calidad y respuestas a sus necesidades básicas, el aliancista
reconoció que es tiempo de hacer un equipo, compartir responsabilidades,
derechos y obligaciones.
“Mi gobierno, dijo, va a poner punto final a la improvisación, construyendo
un plan ordenado y con visión, que oriente el desarrollo del municipio
frente a retos del crecimiento urbano, poblacional y de medio ambiente que
tenemos por delante”.
Por ello, también se comprometió trabajar para construir un gobierno
honesto y de resultados, donde a los ciudadanos les corresponderá ser
agentes del cambio. “Ese es el compromiso individual que todos tenemos como
ciudadanos”.
El candidato de los partidos Revolucionario Institucional, Verde Ecologista
y Nueva Alianza, afirmó que “es tiempo de garantizar que el Querétaro que
soñamos para nuestros hijos, se comience a construir hoy”.
Al termino del mensaje, Roberto Loyola Vera destinó un momento para una
entrevista con los reporteros que han estado cubriendo su campaña política,
y posteriormente se dirigió a continuar con el festejo que le prepararon
militantes y simpatizantes priístas en la explanada del Auditorio Josefa
Ortiz de Domínguez.

La Malaisie, en forme longue la Fédération de Malaisie, en malais Malaysia, مليسيا, est un pays d'Asie du Sud-Est, constitué de la Malaisie péninsulaire ou Malaisie occidentale (péninsule Malaise) et de la Malaisie orientale (nord de Bornéo). Elle est située à environ 200 km au nord de l'équateur. Sa capitale est Kuala Lumpur et sa superficie est égale à 329 750 km2.
Le pays est composé de deux régions distinctes :
* La Malaisie occidentale ou Malaisie péninsulaire (au sud de la Thaïlande) est divisée du Nord au Sud par une longue chaîne montagneuse dont le point culminant se situe à 2189 m (Mont Tahan) et où subsistent de vastes zones forestières. La côte Ouest est marécageuse et plate, la côte Est est, au contraire, composée de longues plages de sable. Les cultures et plantations sont d'abord situées le long des plaines côtières. Le Nord du pays (Perlis et Kedah) est considéré comme le grenier à riz du pays.
* La Malaisie orientale est composée des territoires du Sarawak et du Sabah et située au Nord de l'Indonésie (Bornéo). Cette partie représente 15 % de la population sur 60 % du territoire. Elle est essentiellement composée de forêts tropicales humides et d'un relief assez élevé (mont Kinabalu, 4100 m).
La Malaisie partage ses frontières terrestres avec le Brunei (381 km), l'Indonésie (1178 km) et la Thaïlande (506 km), et dispose de 4675 km de côtes. Elle est également reliée à Singapour par deux ponts traversant le détroit de Johor.
L'utilisation du nom de « Malaisie » pour désigner la péninsule Malaise est récente. Ce nom est la francisation de Malaya dans l'expression « British Malaya » (Malaisie britannique) de laquelle les Anglais désignaient, à partir de la fin du XIXe siècle, les territoires qu'ils contrôlaient sur la péninsule.
Jusqu'en 1912, le nom de « Fédération de Malaisie » ne s'appliquait qu'à l'entité créée en 1946-48 par les Britanniques et devenue indépendante en 1957, « l'Union malaise » (Malayan Union). Celle-ci regroupait, dans la péninsule Malaise, les États malais, qui avaient auparavant le statut de protectorats, et les Strait Settlements, c'est-à-dire les colonies de Malacca, Penang et Singapour.
Lorsque les territoires britanniques de Bornéo, Sabah (British North Borneo) et Sarawak deviennent indépendants en 1963 et acceptent de rejoindre la Malaisie, la nouvelle entité est baptisée du néologisme de « Malaysia ».
En français, « Malaisie » avait à l'origine un autre sens. En 1831, Jules Dumont d'Urville proposait à la Société de géographie de Paris une organisation de l'Océanie en quatre parties :
* la Polynésie (« les nombreuses îles »),
* la Mélanésie (« les îles noires »),
* la Micronésie (« les petites îles ») et
* la Malaisie.
Par ce dernier nom, Dumont d'Urville entendait une région regroupant l'Indonésie, la Malaisie et les Philippines actuelles. À l'époque en effet, on considérait que les habitants de cette région pouvaient être désignés par le terme englobant de « Malais ».
Au sens strict du terme, les Malais sont les populations qui parlent la langue malaise et qui habitent le littoral oriental de l'île de Sumatra, les îles Riau, la péninsule Malaise et le littoral de l'île de Bornéo.
Le traité de Londres de 1824 entre Anglais et Hollandais se traduira par un partage en deux de ce monde malais. On ne saurait donc identifier celui-ci à la seule Malaisie.
Pour éviter la confusion, on utilise le gentilé « malaisien » pour désigner ce qui relève de la Malaisie comme État, le mot « malais » désignant ce qui relève de la langue, de la culture, de l'ethnie, et couvrant donc un territoire plus vaste. Ainsi, l'expression « monde malais » au sens strict désigne l'aire géographique habitée par les Malais et décrite plus haut.
L'État du Pahang est le plus grand de la Malaisie péninsulaire avec 35964 km². Sa capitale est la ville de Kuantan, située sur la côte est de la mer de Chine méridionale.

My good buddy, Alan Cressler, and I recently visited a remote site in Clay County, Alabama for an Alabama endemic, Spigelia marilandica "candy-stripe" form. The common name for the species is Indian Pink. There are only two sites for this rare, unusually colored form, and they are both in Alabama.

The Chilcott series consists of moderately deep to duripan, well drained soils with slow permeability that formed in a thin mantle of loess and silty alluvium from loess and weathered volcanic ash over loamy or sandy and gravelly alluvium from igneous materials. Slopes range from 0 to 30 percent on plains and valleys. The average annual precipitation is about 10 inches and the average annual temperature is about 51 degrees F.
TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine, smectitic, mesic Abruptic Xeric Argidurids
Depth to calcium carbonates - 10 to 30 inches
Depth to duripan - 20 to 40 inches
Depth to bedrock - greater than 60 inches (see remarks)
Moisture control section - moist less than 90 consecutive days when the soil temperature is greater than 47 degrees F.
Average annual soil temperature - 47 to 56 degrees F.
USE AND VEGETATION: Chilcott soils are used mainly for irrigated cropland, hayland and pastureland at lower elevations and for rangeland and wildlife habitat at higher elevations. Crops grown include corn and small grains. The dominant natural vegetation is Wyoming big sagebrush, Thurber needlegrass, and bluebunch wheatgrass.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Southwestern Idaho and eastern Oregon. MLRA 10, 11, and 25. Chilcott soils are extensive.
The original concept of this series is a soil with a duripan formed at a sand and gravel discontinuity. The expansion to include phases with duripans over basalt would not be allowed under new series criteria and should be considered outside the series concept.

We tested out a new (old) manufacturing technology in the Jocelyn H. Lee Innovation Lab - vacuum forming! We fabricated a platen and frame using the laser cutter, then used a toaster oven and a shop-vac to complete the process. Participants were able to vacuum-form a range of shapes out of plastic plates to use as candy molds or decorative artwork! Special thanks to the volunteers who helped make this project a success.

I'm not a big fan of using the 1st person in forms. While the argument is that 1st person conveys ownership of the space, using 1st person eliminates the opportunity to treat the form as a conversation, where labels are the website's side and inputs are the visitor's side of the conversation.
This sign-up form (from the fab www.abtests.com/) speaks for the visitor, saying "I want to...", "I want my..." and talking to the website, saying "You can find me..." and "You can use this..." In general, people don't like having words put in their mouths. it's easy to get into an "Oh, no I _don't_ want to..." attitude when reading somone's words for you.
I'll have to do some comparison tests some time.
I love the 'Show Password' option that unmasks your password so you can opt to confirm that you typed it correctly, rather than forcing you to enter it twice (often copy/pasting to little effect).

Ross Craig (1926-2012) was a local historian born in Stockton and dedicated much of his life promoting and conserving the history of Stockton, NSW. He possessed a wealth of knowledge about the suburb and was a founding member of the Stockton Historical Society and co-editor of its magazine. Pat Craig supported her husband’s passion for history, and together they made a great contribution to the Stockton and Newcastle communities. Spectators enjoy late summer sunshine at Highfield, home to Fulwood & Broughton Cricket Club. Note the mural. Captured during the closing stages of a Tommy Wilson Trophy T20 final clash with Northern Premier League rivals Netherfield.
The Kendal-based visitors pipped Fulwood & Broughton in a low-scoring thriller that went to the last ball. Needing one to tie and two to win, with one wicket remaining, the hosts completed a single but suffered a runout going for the second. Having lost fewer wickets, Netherfield were able to celebrate. Some felt ‘super overs’ should have been used to determine the winner.
A difficult wicket and a damp outfield ensured both teams had trouble putting runs on the board - despite Highfield being a relatively small ground. With bowlers in command, each team managed only one six. Fours were in short supply, too. Netherfield were 50-3 after 10 overs then 66-4 after 15.
At tea, few would have put money on a Netherfield win. However, Fulwood & Broughton lost two wickets, before scoring a run, in the first over. Game on! The hosts were 49-3 after 10 overs then 67-5 after 15. Twenty-five was needed from the last 18 balls then 13 off the final over. A valiant effort, late in the game, gave Fulwood & Broughton a sniff of the cup but they fell agonisingly short.
