The rocks on the slope indicate an inclination of above 35° - not very steep. Right steepness to house the masses of snow for an avalanche. How do you trigger an avalanche on fairly solid snow? Get all your friends together and put their united body mass on the most fragile spot. Last month a group of 8 skiers just had the thought of getting further apart when the avalanche got off. It buried the whole group together with 12 skiers further down who had already been to the peak, 5 dead, covered by up to 10 foot of snow, despite perfect equipment including avalanche airbag packs.. The group on the photo was initially 15 guys, all very close together. Fortunately 6 decided to start with their little liqueur bottles further down and were delayed.

This is part of a huge collection of pictures I took during a flying school trip From Ottawa, Ontario to Vancouver, British Columbia this past summer. A great learning opportunity for us new private pilots and instructors to fly to all these cool locations along the way and back. We took 3 Cessna 172s and one Beechcraft Duchess.
