Crazy Formation in Welch-Bowling Cave (TN) which is the longest cave formed in the upper Pennington Formation. This formation looks a lot like funnel cake to me...I've never see formations like some of the ones in this cave. It may have something to do with the fact that it's in a rock layer that normally doesn't even contain limestone to form caves. The limestone layer in the upper Pennington is at a higher elevation than all of the other significant sized Mississippian aged limestone layers in Tennessee.
This was my second trip to Carlsbad Caverns National Park and Heather's first. We visited the Caverns in March 2014 - unfortunately it was over Spring Break and rather mobbed - and I forgot my tripod - so all the shots are hand held. Despite that, it was a great visit - if you are anywhere close to the Caverns, check them out!

Sunrise in the Alabama Hills, near Lone Pine in the Eastern Sierra of California. Many a Hollywood western movie has been filmed in this location. Is it any wonder? Seems like the iconic cowboy set. In fact, Lone Pine, the town closest to the Alabama Hills, is home to an annual film festival as a direct result of the area's history of Hollywood movies. Gregory Peck, John Wayne and many other famous western stars have filmed movies there.
All six of the United States Air Force Thunderbirds fly in delta formation during Wings Over Pittsburgh 2017.
A 17-image, vertical composite of the Green River Formation rocks at Douglas Pass. The lower sediments are predominantly carbonate, and the buff sediments towards the top are sandstones.
