"Dark castles, dark forts, dark citadels… however you translate the word Dimmuborgir, it should give you some idea of the mangled forms that lie within. Twisted towers of coagulated rock breach the earth’s surface to form a lava field full of giant pillars, chimneys and tubes to scramble across. These dramatic structures never fail to impress and are one of Iceland’s most popular tourist destinations."

La médiathèque de l'Ifpo migre son catalogue de bibliothèque vers le logiciel libre Koha. Une formation à ce logiciel, assurée par Sitthida Samath (Institut des sciences de l’homme, Lyon), a réuni l’ensemble des personnels des bibliothèques de Damas, Beyrouth et Alep. La formation a eu lieu les 18 et 19 octobre 2010 à l’Ifpo, Damas, Abou Roumaneh.

After taking a lot of pictures of the first bunch of ice formations, we finally jumped in the van to continue. About 50-100 feet down the road we found another ice formation, but this time there was a frozen tree in the mix! It was gorgeous!

Most of these formations formed over mud that has since washed away.

This is unusual in that the clean (meaning little to no terrestrial contamination) limestone has coarse grained terrestrial sediments (pebbles) scattered in it.

A P-51 Mustang, a CA-18 Mustang and a Skyraider at Flying Legends 2011. Too bad the Skyraider clipped the "Big Beautifull Doll" in flight the next day. The "Doll" crashed (pilot OK) and the 'Raider managed a safe landing, but with a big chunk of right wing missing... © Bert Visser
