The view, looking north, from Forester Pass, on the boundary between Kings Canyon National Park and Sequoia National Park, California.

This is another in my John Muir Trail series. This is a panorama, a stitch of eight singles made with a Nikon D7000 and Tokina 11-16mm. Please view my other JMT images in my JMT set.

The John Muir Trail is a 212-mile subsection of the 2650-mile Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) but nowhere on the entire PCT is there a higher pass than Forester at 13200'. This pass also serves as the boundary between Kings Canyon National Park (to the north) and Sequoia National Park.

I've been over Forester Pass previously so I knew what I was in for when I awoke the morning this image was made but I was still unprepared for the amount of snow with which we would have to deal. Although this image doesn't seem to show a lot of snow on the trail leading up to the pass, it is the one thing that I will remember about it from this trip. The trail was completely covered in snow and was not visible in places so I just learned to climb in the "up" direction. Trail navigation was sketchy in spots as it's not easy to climb over snow and ice with 50 lbs. of gear in tow.

This pass is also one of the longest approaches (from the north), if not the longest, of any on the JMT. The only other pass I can remember being nearly as long is Silver Pass.

Just above the snow fields a few hikers can be seen working their way to the pass. Forester Pass is just a small notch in a talus-filled ridgeline although there are a couple of areas to stop, drop packs and take in the million dollar view.

Related to the better-known Burnet and Cinnabar moths but also of striking appearance.

Forresters Beach,

Central Coast, NSW, Australia.

Forresters Beach is found just south of Bateau Bay on the NSW Central Coast.

It lies approx. 60km north of Sydney, around an hour’s drive.

Just to the north is Wyrrabalong National Park.

I arrived pretty late in the evening at Forresters Beach - a bit later than what I’d planned.

I’d spent most of the afternoon photographing Catherine Hill Bay & Caves Beach.

I managed to catch the last dying rays of the sun at Forresters Beach & shot a few frames.

As ‘blue hour’ began I got the idea to try some ‘light painting’ on the rocks.

As the light faded & it got dark, I noticed quite a few stars in the heavens & pointed my camera up.

About an hour after dark, I spotted a glow on the horizon & soon a luminous full moon emerged from the sea.

It began to cast a warm glow over the landscape & created some interesting photographic opportunities.

The only downside was the moonlight brightened the sky, so it reduced the number of visible stars.

Long exposures created a surreal combination of starlit night skies with a moonlit beach scene.

I ended up spending a few hours at the beach exploring some different compositions.

It was a great way to end the day & the light show from the sky was quite awe-inspiring!

Quite a big seller Worldwide yet only sold in tiny numbers here in the UK is the Subaru Forester. In fact i'm surprised Subaru still bother with the UK and haven't pulled out like Mitsubishi have done recently!

Glad to see Matchbox model it though and predictably did a fine job considering the ever more strict cost constraints imposed on it.

Seen here in its debut metallic green finish which did briefly appear at Tesco at the time and now two years later at Poundland.

Mint and boxed.

"Very few moths can compare with the beautiful day-flying Eight Spotted Forester (Alypia octomaculata). They are relatively small with only a 1 1/2 inch wingspan, but what they lack in size they more than make up for in eye appeal." Forester Pass, south, descent...

Seen a bit of action this one.

This vivid turquoise moth caught my eye, outdoing the bright patch of deep blue milkwort it was feeding on!

Apparently quite hard to tell the difference between a scarce forester, and a forester, so I've plumped for the more likely one.

Subaru sold nearly 115k Foresters in the U.S. in 2022 yet throughout the WHOLE OF EUROPE during that same period just under 5k units. Here in the UK Subaru are almost invisible now but do keep plugging away unlike Mitsubishi who haven't recently pulled out.

That sales success in America probably explains why Matchbox decided to model the most recent generation Forester and do a rather good job of doing so. Its price point means it'll never worry Tomica in outright accuracy but its proportions, finish and detailing are all very pleasing.

We did not see many butterflies until we reached the forested areas near the end of our trip. These Gold-banded Foresters were perched on a leaf at Udzungwa National Park.

- before cows were domesticated they were animals of the forest - cows do remain under trees if there is the possibility in a meadow - the leaves are always eaten away in the range of their heads (mouthes) - the milk of a cow - which can nourish on leaves - is more durable (because of tannic acid) and tastes better -

Shot my car for the first time since coils, wheels and some other stuff.

A Forester moth (Zygaenidae: Procridinae), possibly Adscita statices, but it's almost impossible to identify them, at least for an amateur like me. However the aforementioned species should be common in Hungary and looks really similar to this one so I'm guessing that's it.

When I was considering my latest estate car purchase these and the Legacy/Outback did come to mind, but unfortunately the need for something more economical mean they went no further than that.

The first generation of the Subaru Forester was sold from 1997 until 2002. It's one of the first crossover models, from before the time we knew that word for cars. ts owner seems to collect stickers on the front window.
