Chillenden is best known for the white clapboard post mill, which is about half a mile above the village.
I came here via Goodnestone, and on the map it looked like an easy journey of a couple of miles. As it turned out the network of narrow lanes made it more difficult, but I knew where the mill was, so made my way there, then down into the village which is stretched along a sunken lane, the church being opposite the village pub.
All Saints is a small church, similar to Harty and Stodmarsh, with a sturdy wooden fram holding the small tower and spire up.
Some nice victorian tiles and ancient glass in the window, but just fragments.
------------------------------------------
Chillenden comes from the Old English ‘denu’ meaning a ‘valley’ combined with a personal name; therefore, ‘Ciolla’s valley’. The Domesday Book records Chillenden as Cilledene.
Chillenden parish church is a Grade: II listed building, dedicated to All Saints. The Normans built the church in the 12th century with additions in the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1800, Edward Hasted described the Chillenden church as ‘antient, it is a mean building, very small, having a square tower at the west end, in which there is only one bell. It consists of a body, and one chancel. In the windows are remains of very handsome painted glass. There is a handsome zig-zag moulding, and circular arch over the north door. There is likewise a circular arch, but plainer than the other, over the south door’. The architect Sir George Gilbert Scott sensitively restored the church in 1871.

CHILLENDEN,
WRITTEN in the survey of Domesday, Cilledene, lies the next parish westward from Knolton, taking its name from its cold and low situation. The manors of Knolton and Woodnesborough claim over part of this parish, as does the manor of Adisham over another part of it. A borsholder is appointed for this parish by the justices, at their petty sessions for this division of the lath of St. Augustine.
THE PARISH of Chillenden lies dry and healthy, but it is not very pleasantly situated, though surrounded by other parishes which are remarkably so; it is very small, containing only one hundred and sixty acres, and the whole rents in it amount to little more than 250l. per annum. There are three farms in it, one belonging to Mr. Hammond, and the other two to Sir Brook Bridges, bart. It lies low in a bottom, the high road from Canterbury to Deal leads through the village called Chillenden-street, which consists of twenty two houses; on the south side stands the church. The soil is chalky and poor, and the lands, which are arable, are open and uninclosed. A fair is held here on WhitMonday, for pedlary, &c.
THIS PLACE, at the time of taking the survey of Domesday, was part of the possessions of Odo, bishop of Baieux, under the general title of whose lands it is entered in it as follows:
Osbern (son of Letard) holds of the bishop Cilledene. It was taxed at one suling and one yoke and ten acres. The arable land is . . . . In demesne there is nothing now, but nine villeins have there two carucates and an half. In the time of king Edward the Consessor it was worth sixty shillings, and afterwards thirty shillings, now forty shillings. Godwin held it of king Edward, and five other Thanes. Thomas Osbern put three of their lands into one manor.
Four years after the taking of this survey, this estate, on the bishop's disgrace and the consiscation of his estates, came into the hands of the crown.
After which it came into the possession of a family, who took their surname from it, and there is mention made in deeds, which are as antient as the reign of king Henry III. of John de Chillenden, Edward and William de Chillenden, who had an interest in this place; after this name was become extinct here, the Bakers, of Caldham, in Capel, near Folkestone, possessed it, in whom this manor continued till king Henry VI.'s reign, when it passed by sale to Hunt, whose descendants remained entitled to it for two or three descents, when one of them alienated it to Gason, of Apulton, in Ickham. (fn. 1) They bore for their arms, Azure, a fess cotized, ermine, between three goats heads, couped, argent; which coat was granted anno 39 king Henry VIII. (fn. 1) in which name it continued for some time, and till it was at length sold to Hammond, of St. Alban's, in Nonington, in whose descendants it has continued down to William Hammond, esq. of St. Alban's, who is the present owner of this manor.
This estate pays a quit rent to Adisham manor, of which it is held. It has no manerial rights, and it is much doubted, if it had ever any claim, beyond the reputation of a manor.
There are no parochial charities. The poor constantly relieved are about sixteen, casually six.
THIS PARISH is within the ECCLESIASTICAL JURISDICTION of the diocese of Canterbury, and deanry of Bridge.
The church, which is dedicated to All Saints, seems antient, it is a mean building, very small, having a square tower at the west end, in which there is only one bell. It consists of a body, and one chancel. In the windows are remains of very handsome painted glass. There is a handsome zig-zag moulding, and circular arch over the north door. There is likewise a circular arch, but plainer than the other, over the south door. It has nothing further worth mention in it.
¶This church was part of the possessions of the priory of Ledes, being given to it by William de Northwic, about the latter end of king Henry II.'s reign; (fn. 2) but the prior and convent never obtained the appropriation of it, but contented themselves with a pension of eight shillings yearly from it; in which state it continued till the dissolution of the priory in the 31st year of king Henry VIII's reign, when the advowson, together with the above pension, came with the rest of the possession of the priory, into the hands of the crown, in which the patronage of this church continues at this time. But the annual pension of eight shillings was soon afterwards settled by the king in his 33d year, among other premises, on his new-founded dean and chapter of Rochester, part of whose possessions it still continues.
This rectory is valued in the king's books at five pounds. It is now a discharged living, and is of about the clear yearly value of twenty six pounds. In 1588 it was valued at forty pounds, communicants seventyseven. In 1640 it was valued at the same, communicants seventy.
There are three acres of glebe. The present incumbent has built a tolerable good parsonage-house on the scite of the antient one. There is no land within this parish exempt from the payment of tithe.

I belong to a great online photography forum for high quality smaller cameras called seriouscompacts.com. Some folks from the PA/NJ area got together today and met for the first time and even my cousin Sheila came out and joined us.
It was a BLAST and after lunch we went to Grounds for Sculpture to have some fun with out cameras. I didn't get anything too serious as I was too busy having fun with these folks.

CPAC stands for Civilian Police Accountability Council. In others words, it means civilian control of the police force.
For Valentine's Day at work, we set up a photo booth and invited individuals and couples to pose for photos. As you can see in these photos, people had a great time posing both for relatively traditional portraits and also dressing up with costumes or striking fun poses. You've got to love the creativity of park rangers!
It was an interesting challenge for me, as a photographer, to try to get good pictures with only the limited light resources I had available, i.e., a single 430EX off-camera flash shot through an umbrella to soften the light. Yes, we had a big picture window with indirect natural light, but it was far too dim to be of effective use, and the lights in the community building are notoriously low for camera work. I think we mostly succeeded in spite of the difficulty, though I had to switch out batteries early on because they weren't high powered enough, leading to too much variability in the flaash power, and were dangerously overheating when I took them out. The Enloop rechargeables got warm but did a much better job of keeping up with the demand. In future, I would want to improve this lighting setup in two ways: first, with a second light camera-right to balance the one we had camera-left, and to help with the lighting load; and second, with a bit of a hair light to provide separation between the dark hair and the dark background (though some of this was helped by having the subjects stand farther in front of the backdrop, thus providing greater differential between the lighting of each).

SAGINAW— The Most Rev. Joseph R. Cistone, Bishop of Saginaw, celebrated Mass at Holy Family Church in Saginaw and led a procession to Veterans Memorial Plaza as part of the Fortnight for Freedom on Wednesday, June 29. The procession included a bagpiper and the Knights of Columbus Color Guard. A wreath was placed at the memorial and Bishop Cistone led the community in prayer. The ceremony, which honored military men and women and their families for their selfless service to the United States, concluded with "God Bless America" and "Taps."
The Fortnight for Freedom, which takes place from June 21 to July 4 is a time when the liturgical calendar celebrates a series of great martyrs who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power. These martyrs include St. Thomas More, St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, SS. Peter and Paul and the first martyrs of the Church of Rome. The theme of this year's Fortnight will focus on the “Witnesses to Freedom.” Learn more about the Fortnight for Freedom here: www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/religious-liberty/fortnig...

The ghost bride stood almost peacefully among the corpses littering the living room. Then she heard the sounds coming from other places. This incensed her and she had to debate with herself about which pest problem to take care of next. The dining room was nearest and she began to float in that direction ready to take care of things there. Things were steaming up in the dining room as Temptress and Kain were left to entertain one another. They were totally absorbed in one another.

For a "Bokeh" photo session, Lyon, France, on June 27, 2023, I used my 1971 Asahi Pentax Spotmatic SP fitting the Zenit Helios 44M-6 lens 1:2 f=58mm.
I used a color film Kodak Gold 200 and the 36-exposure film was exposed for 200 ISO. Exposures were determined using a Minolta Autometer III light meter fitted with a 10° finder.

After exposures the film was processed by a local lab service using the C-41 process. The film was then digitized at 24MP using a Sony A7 body fitted to a Minolta Slide Duplicator installed on a Minolta Auto Bellows III with a lens Minolta Bellow Macro Rokkor 50mm f/3.5. The RAW files obtained were then processed without intermediate files in LR and edited to the final jpeg pictures.
All views of the film are presented in the dedicated album either in the printed framed versions and unframed full-size jpeg accompanied by some documentary smartphone Vivio Y76 color pictures.

About the camera body :
This Asahi Optical Company (originally (旭光学工業株式会社, Asahi Kōgaku Kōgyō Kabushiki-Gaisha) SLR was sold to its first owner on December 11, 1971.
The ASAHI PENTAX Spomatic SP was produced in Japan from 1964 to 1971. This exemplary was sold to me on July 25, 2022 after complete servicing of the camera with the beautifully conserved user manual, the original international warranty card, and a booklet describing the ASAHI PENTAX system.
The camera is equipped with its original normal lens Asahi Opt. Co. Super-Takumar 1:1.8 f=55 (M42 mount), a ASAHI PENTAX Skylight 49 mm filter, the original shade hood in a small leather case, the neck leather strap and the body half ever-ready case only. The two CdS photoresistors are still operated by a functionnal circuitry that is not sensitive by conception to the voltage difference between the original mercury (1.35V) and nowadays available silver-oxyde (1.55 V) batteries. This simple circuitry operates only with the closed diaphragm and gives matching values to a silicon Minolta Autometer III lightmeter.
About the lens:
This Helios 44M-6 is the normal lens fitted of my KMZ Zenit 122 circa 1994. using the M42 mount is the multi-coated version 6 of the Helios 44M manufactured in 1997 at Юпитер, (Оптико-механический завод «Юпитер» , "Jupiter") Valday, Novgorod region.
My exemplary of Zenit-122 was produced in 1994 by the Russian company KMZ (Красногорский механический завод, Krasnogorskiy Mechanicheskiy Zavod) located in the Moscow region. Zenit-122 were also manufactured by BelOMO factory. From 1990 to 2005, about 2 millions of Zenit-122 were overall produced. The camera is built on the tough previous Zenit chassis and uses the same curtain Leica-type shutter with no slow speeds. The body is cased with ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styren) thermoplastic. Zenit-122 is equipped with a two CdS cells for light metering (25-400 ISO) using a LED indicator in the viewfinder.

Eddie Colla, Hugh Leeman, and D Young V have come together to envision a post-apocalyptical future, and do so by melding their perspectives into a single narrative. "We tried to find a point at which all of our work intersects. The idea of this 'epilogue' seems to be a natural progression for everyone's work in one way or another," says Colla. The word apocalypse comes from the Greek, meaning uncovered, and in religious contexts stands for a revelation of meaning hidden from mankind. This immersive installation will take place in LA's Hold Up Gallery, and reveals a world by way of detritus, weaponry, images, and other objects in what the artists describe as a challenging but ultimately rewarding collaboration. Leeman forgoes oil paint in favor of the less traditional carbon soot emissions and 14 karat gold, billboard posters, and appropriated images from Facebook, while D Young V makes objects familiar to us strange, using weapons, flags, helmets, and vehicle parts.
