Made for a Swap on Ravelry. My swap partner mentioned that they liked the designs of Paul Poiret ( as do I). Immediately I thought of this - the most famous of his 'Lampshade' tunics from 1912 - mainly because I've always thought that it looked like an outfit for a doll. And I do think it makes a perfect outfit for Blythe :-)
My Violetta modelling the outfit minus the Turban hat. I painted the roses onto the silk with silk-screening goop. The tunic hem is wired.
Quite pleased with the draped skirt - this was the 2nd attempt, the 1st was really big at the hips! The belt on the tunic is a separate piece. I also sent some pinkish tights (P Poiret made it acceptable for a fashionable lady to wear stockings that were the colour of 'skin') and some strappy shoes.
When I was in Ethiopia with my school NLA, we visited Gurara Freedom School, among others. This is a school run by the organization Win Souls for God - Hope Children. The children here were very happy, and made us feel welcome.

Dal mese di giugno 2022 è in corso lo scavo archeologico del giardino di Largo Corrado Ricci, tra Via dei Fori Imperiali, Via Cavour e Torre dei Conti.

Questa area della città conserva una stratificazione storica e urbanistica estremamente ricca.
Andando a ritroso nel tempo, infatti, il giardino era stato sistemato a seguito delle demolizioni operate negli anni Trenta del secolo scorso per la realizzazione di Via dell’Impero, l’odierna via dei Fori Imperiali, inaugurata nel 1932. Le demolizioni avevano raso al suolo l’ottocentesco Palazzo Nicolini insieme ad altre strutture abitative e commerciali la cui costruzione, grazie ai documenti di archivio, si può far risalire al XVII secolo. Ancora prima, tra XIII e XIV secolo, erano in questa zona strutture connesse alla fortezza urbana della nobile famiglia dei Conti, che aveva il suo perno nella grande torre voluta da papa Innocenzo III (1198-1216). In epoca romana, qui sorgeva il Foro della Pace, fatto costruire dall’imperatore Vespasiano (69-79 d.C.) tra il 71 e il 75.

Lo scavo attualmente in corso si prefigge di raggiungere e indagare proprio il settore nord-orientale di questo Foro, al confine con il muro perimetrale dell’attiguo Foro di Nerva all’altezza delle celebri “Colonnacce”.

Nella conferenza, tenuta da personale della Sovrintendenza Capitolina che lavora nel cantiere, si illustreranno non solo gli aspetti scientifici delle indagini archeologiche ma anche quelli legati alle problematiche connesse alla progettazione e all’esecuzione di uno scavo collocato in pieno centro storico, in una città come Roma. Inoltre saranno illustrate le azioni messe in campo per la comunicazione e condivisione dell’andamento dei lavori con la collettività attraverso le reti social e le visite didattiche in cantiere.

Art For Blythe's Sake!
Chelsea Mayfair took a trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts! Our brakes went out as we pulled into our parking space and unfortunately, her tour guide of the museum (this was her first trip there) was a little preoccupied with how to drive home without running into things...
But we did have a quick visit with some of our favorite art pieces there!
This is a Salvador Dali painting, "Portrait of Juan de Pareja, the Assistant to Valesquez" from the year 1960. I thought her hair and outfit just had the right amount of pop art to go with his surreal landscape.
We were in and out in a matter of an hour and on our way to get the brakes fixed. I promised her a much longer visit next time and I know she is going to hold me to it!

Members from BOSS (Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers) and volunteers from the Vicenza Military Community got together at the annual year-end event held at La Fraglia July 31.
La Fraglia is an educational and rehabilitation cooperative, which offers a variety of educational, and rehabilitation programs to children and adults with disabilities.
The VMC has had a community relations outreach with this organization for the past six years.

Persons with disabilities in North Macedonia have never been represented by an MP or another elected official with a disability, even though they constitute a significant part of the population. When opportunities for political participation arise, it seems that persons with disabilities are the ones most deprived of possibilities to engage. To support their empowerment, WFD organised the first Political Academy for Equal Participation this weekend, giving space to engaged activists and individuals in the field to further develop their skills for political participation. The academy was organised in cooperation with Polio Plus and funded by the UK Government. We look forward to see more activists present in the political and public space advocating for the rights of persons with disabilities.

The Run For Peace Marathon took place on 21 May 2017 in Kigali, and was attended by First Lady Jeannette Kagame, First Lady of Kenya Mrs Margaret Kenyatta, Minister of Sports and Culture Hon. Julienne Uwacu, and thousands of people gathered for the marathon.
The marathon featured three categories: 7km 'Run for Peace', 21kms race and 42kms race.

The Presentations
Up to 20 slides and 5 minutes is all you get. Not a second more. The presenters need to get to the point quickly, and make it exciting and engaging.
We welcome topics about anything that other people will find interesting. That’s a wide criteria and that’s just fine. If the most interesting submissions end up being technical, then Ignite will have a technical feel. There is a wide mix of topics. If you’re not interested in the current topic, all you have to do is wait for 5 minutes and a new one starts.
