What are your hopes for health care?

That's what we asked eight awesome speakers.

But Health Talks’ speakers didn't use PowerPoint presentations full of bullet points. They used the PechaKucha 20×20 format, where each presentation contains 20 photos and each slide is displayed for exactly 20 seconds before automatically advancing to the next one.

For the 2nd year in a row young upstart CLIO, who makes legal practice management software, invited me to come hang out and photograph their staff Christmas party in Vancouver. This is one of the fastest growing companies in the world and they definitely share the same work hard play hard ethos as many of my other favorite young technology startup clients like Hootsuite, Shopify, Tune & Connect. :)

Letter of Application and Testimonials for Oliver J. Lodge for the Chair of Experimental Physics at University College, Liverpool, 1881

Lodge was Assistant-Professor of physics at University College, London when he applied for the post at the newly established University College at Liverpool. His letter of application gives details of his academic career and his plans to establish a laboratory at Liverpool, to inspire students with a love of the subject, and to develop a programme of evening classes, mentioning his own experience of studying in the evenings and stating that he ‘should be glad to help young men in like condition’

The application includes testimonials from colleagues at University College, London, and the British Association for the Advancement of Science, and from his friend and mentor, Professor G. F. Fitzgerald.

During his time at Liverpool, Lodge lectured on the ether and discovered the electrostatic condensation of fog. He also carried out experiments on the electromagnetic field, producing electromagnetic waves guided along wires using discharge from a Leyden jar in 1888 during work on lightening conductors.

He returned to experiments with radio waves in the 1890s and, with the help of Alexander Muirhead, gave the first public demonstration of radio telegraphy, using the method of signaling in Morse code via long and short pulses. He demonstrated his radio-wave receiver apparatus at the British Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in Liverpool in 1896. Lodge also lectured on X-rays in Liverpool the same year

2 plates for Mercury 13 days after his stone removal surgery. No indication of any missed stones in the kidney, ureturs, bladder or urethra. Now, it's a matter of controlling stone formation. We can do this on several fronts:

1. Dilution! the most important, keeping his urine dilute (low specific gravity) so that the crystals can't get together to party and make stones. I've purchased a refractometer so that I regularly check Mercury's urine specific gravity.

2. Frequent urination with agitation! He's making a lot more urine because of all that diluting so we're making regular trips outside to pee. This means no more sleeping through the night. We're up at least once in the night to go out for a bit of bush watering. Agitation? Yep, Mercury gets to bounce around before he pees so that any "sludgy" stuff that may be forming in his bladder will be sloshed around and expressed in his pee before it has a chance to get together and party to make stones.

3. Basic pH! Mercury needs to keep the pH of his urine in the 7-8's not the 6's. I'll be getting a portable pH meter to check that we're maintaining the requisite balance with diet and his twice daily dose of Potassium Citrate.

4. Low-Oxalate Diet! No more strawberries ;-) But his special diet means no more splurging on ice cream or jerky treats. I suspect he won't be maintaining his 6 figure and he'll be finally able to drop to the more svelt 5. If he's always a bit hungry he'll eat better when and what he's supposed to.

For some reason, yesterday my flickr views went from the usual 200-400 to just over 3,000, spread across loads of my photos - not just loads of views of one particular one - and without any of them being on Explore. Very odd! Any ideas why? Might be a fault with flickr and not actually reflect real views.

My photo of the boiled shrimp at elBulli featured in the pages of Scanorama, SAS's glossy-print magazine (why don't U.S. airlines have nice, thick, stock-paper print magazines like this?). This was a part of a feature entitled "The End of the Beginning," about the last meal at elBulli (the menu is on the margin to the right of my photo - 49 courses).

Here are two elderly women preparing to go to the early morning market the next morning. They sell roots and herbs that they grow them self and get from family and friends. I know one of them and she says she does not need to sell at the market but she still does because its a good way to meet and interact with people. I think it is a good thing to sell some things when you are old even tough its not many things but it gives you a reason to wake up in the morning and you have some things to aim at each day. For some old people it can be hard to stop working because they are used to the daily routine.

On this photo I did some extra post work that I usually don't do but I just thought it would fit well for this photo. I started in camera raw like always but I also added some blur in photoshop, not much but just enough so you look directly at them. I used the same way as when you make miniature effect like in so many time laps videos.

CLOSUP, the Ford School's Center for Local, State, & Urban Policy, held a discussion about the findings from the Michigan Public Policy Survey (MPPS), which asked leaders from 1,329 of Michigan's local governments to report on the future of public services in their jurisdictions in the aftermath of the Great Recession. The survey concluded that a majority of Michigan's local leaders think our system of funding local governments is broken. CLOSUP Director Barry Rabe, Program Manager Thomas Ivacko, and Project Manager Debra Horner presented on the survey findings and the solutions suggested by these leaders.

ROMA ARCHEOLOGIA e RESTAURO ARCHITETTURA: Roma: riaprono i Fori Imperiali, ma è polemica politica, DIRETTA NEWS.IT (10|11|2014).

For many years, a unique architectural building, a 46 meters high tower called “Bierpinsel”, has been asleep in the center of Berlin. Its paint fades and until yet the tower was only used by students, who studied the futuristic architecture of the 1970th.

In Addition to Sozyone and Flying Förtress, also Honet and Craig KR Costello will work with about 2000 spray-cans in over 40 meters hight...

For my final Project in Photo Arts # we had to do a 10 week project where we shot pictures from a theme. The point of the project was to see how you deviated from your original Idea, thus the title for the assignment DV8. I decided to shoot children's fairy tales as my theme. I wanted to bring out the side of the stories that children don't seem to fully understand due to their innocence. I hope you enjoy my spin off of the classics and the not so formal fairy tales. Little red Riding Hood, Peter Pan, Coraline, and The Corpse Bride.

Unfortunately this project remains unfinished due to a vast number of obstacles that were out of my control. I consider these test shoots for a project later in my college career when I can bring the pictures up to their full potential and possibly meet my original standards for my art work.

So I've basically wanted to do a Hunger Games themed picture for a while now, and I had just bought that dress a little bit before my birthday, it's light blue. When I wore it for my birthday dinner with a ton of gold jewelry, I was thinking about how I wanted to take a picture with it and rock the side braid because it looks movie Katniss :)

I personally loved the movie, it's one of the only book to movie's I've liked for quite some time now... but when you think about the story line- book or movie.... it's quite disturbing. I couldn't help but feel my heart get wrenched out multiple times in both- it doesn't matter, the message is clear.

This picture has so many flaws in it I can't even count. I really wanted this to be a good picture.... tomorrows another day. Another try.

Oh and if you haven't listened to Taylor Swift "Eye's Open" song on the Hunger Games soundtrack, go listen. It's beautiful and the title for this picture is directly from the song :)

Lying, thinking

Last night

How to find my soul a home

Where water is not thirsty

And bread loaf is not stone

I came up with one thing

And I don't believe I'm wrong

That nobody,

But nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone

Nobody, but nobody

Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires

With money they can't use

Their wives run round like banshees

Their children sing the blues

They've got expensive doctors

To cure their hearts of stone.

But nobody

No, nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone

Nobody, but nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely

I'll tell you what I know

Storm clouds are gathering

The wind is gonna blow

The race of man is suffering

And I can hear the moan,

'Cause nobody,

But nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone

Nobody, but nobody

Can make it out here alone.

Michael wasn't of my generation .... but I am still saddened by his early passing ... how can one not be saddened by such a young life gone ... gone ... he was a brilliant musician, artist, innovator, perfectionist, talented beyond ... he set so many standards in the world of music.

Michael was adored and loved by millions around the world ... but he was so, so very lonely. I don't think he ever found what he was really looking for ... in this world. Hopefully he has now. His music will live on for many years and will be listened to by generations to come.

Michael, may you now find the peace and love you so desperately wanted and needed in your life. You will be so dearly missed.
