Rockville Maryland, January 30, 2023. Council Member Will Jawando on the mic. Will has been one of the most reliable supporters of rent fairness on the MoCo Council. Around 150 activists gathered in front of the Montgomery County Council Building for a rally with speeches in favor of upcoming rent stabilization legislation. Groups represented here today include CASA, Jews United For Justice, MoCo DSA, More Network, Poor Peoples Campaign, Everyday Canvassing, Our Revolution, Young People For Progress and more. This is a powerful coalition and it is growing. Inside the housing commitee of the Council was meeting to decide when rent stabilization legislation could be voted on. By my count a majority of Council members will be in favor of some kind of stabilization, probably at the level of three to six percent. Hard to say if this will be a permanent or temporary measure. The main opponent of fair rent in MoCo is my District 1 Council member Andrew Friedson, whose famiily has been active in the real estate biz. Another thing you really need to know about Andrew is that just before the 2022 election he was sitting on the largest campaign contribution stash ($500,000+) of any Council member even though he was running essentially unapposed. Any guess where most of that money came from?

Memorial for Robert Ivušić, a member of the 163rd Croatian Brigade during the Homeland War, who died on Srđ Hill in 1992 at the age of 19 defending Dubrovnik / Srđ is a low mountain just behind the walled city of Dubrovnik in Dalmatia, Croatia. The mountain, is part of the Dinaric Alps. At its top is a large white stone cross and Fort Imperial, a defensive structure built by the French in 1810 during the Napoleonic Wars. Srđ is popular with tourists as a viewpoint from which it is possible to see the walled city of Dubrovnik, Lokrum island, the Adriatic Sea and various local attractions (including restaurants and the Stradun). Srđ was once forested with oak trees which locals called dubrava (from the old Slavic word dub, "oak tree"), after which the city of Dubrovnik was named. The southern slope was once rich with pine forests, but in the second half of the 20th century and during the 1991–95 Croatian War of Independence, the forest was almost completely gutted through numerous fires. The mountain was home to one of the fiercest battles of the Independence War, namely the Siege of Dubrovnik, and this is commemorated in a museum in Fort Imperial. The cable car that was disabled during this time has since been reopened, and Srđ has been developed as a tourist attraction, with a restaurant and a base for buggy safaris / Dubrovnik is a city on the Adriatic Sea in southern Croatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist destinations in the Mediterranean Sea, a seaport and the center of Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Its total 2019 population was <30,000. In 1979, the city of Dubrovnik joined the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites. The prosperity of the city was historically based on maritime trade; as the capital of the maritime Republic of Ragusa, it achieved a high level of development, particularly during the 15th and 16th centuries, as it became notable for its wealth and skilled diplomacy. In 1991, after the break-up of Yugoslavia, Dubrovnik was besiege

Buongiorno!
