It will proceed along The Mall, Horse Guards Road, across Horse Guards Parade and onto Whitehall to Parliament Square and into the Palace of Westminster.

Buckingham Palace

The Coffin bearing The late Queen was borne in State from Buckingham Palace this afternoon on a Gun Carriage of The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, flanked by the Escort Party found by 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, to travel to the Palace of Westminster to Lie-in-State in Westminster Hall.

The Coffin was followed by The King, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Sussex, The Duke of York, The Earl of Wessex, The Princess Royal, Mr Peter Phillips, The Duke of Gloucester, The Earl of Snowdon and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence.

Other Members of the Royal Family travelled separately.

The King and The Queen Consort, The Prince and Princess of Wales, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, The Duke of York with Princess Beatrice, Mrs. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi and Princess Eugenie, Mrs. Jack Brooksbank and Mr. Jack Brooksbank, The Earl and Countess of Wessex with The Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor and Viscount Severn, The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, Mr. Peter Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Tindall, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, Princess Alexandra, the Hon. Lady Ogilvy and other Members of the Royal Family were received at the North Door of Westminster Hall by the Lord Great Chamberlain, the Lord Speaker and the Speaker.

The King and The Queen Consort and other Members of the Royal Family attended a Service for the Reception of the Coffin conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Westminster (the Very Reverend Dr. David Hoyle).

A Guard of Honour, found by The King's Guard with the State Colour, was formed up in front of Buckingham Palace.

A Guard of Honour found by the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force, with the Band of the Royal Marines was formed up in Parliament Square.

His Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms and The King's Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard were on duty in the Palace of Westminster.

From Household Division website

At the stroke of 2:22pm this afternoon, Her Majesty The Queen’s coffin was carried in procession on a gun carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall, where she will lie in state for four days ahead of her State Funeral on Monday 19 September 2022.

Before the procession set off, dismounted detachments of The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment formed up on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace, as a Guard of Honour formed from troops of 1st Battalion Coldstream Guards, with its State Colour draped, waited outside in the Queen’s Gardens.

The carriage, known as the George Gun Carriage and which carried King George VI’s coffin, was positioned in the Buckingham Palace Quadrangle with an escort party and a bearer party formed by The Queen’s Company 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

As the Commanding Officer of the Household Division, Major General Chris Ghika and his staff took up their positions in front of the gun carriage, the bearer party carried Her Majesty’s coffin from within Buckingham Palace to be placed on the gun carriage.

Leaving Buckingham Palace for the last time

At 2:22pm on the dot, guns were fired from Hyde Park by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery - one round every minute for the duration of the procession, meaning 38 rounds were fired. Simultaneously, Garrison Sergeant Major, Headquarters London District, WO1 Andrew Stokes, stepped off the procession.

Leading the procession out of Buckingham Palace and along The Mall was the dismounted detachment of The Life Guards of the Household Cavalry of more than 50 soldiers.

Following them were four key personnel: Silver Stick in Waiting Colonel Mark Berry (former Life Guards); Field Officer in Brigade Waiting, Lieutenant Colonel Gareth Light, Irish Guards; Brigade Major Household Division, Lieutenant Colonel James Shaw, Grenadier Guards and Aide-de-Camp to Major General Commanding the Household Division, Captain Jamie Roy.

Flanking the gun carriage were pall bearers, who had all been service equerries to The Queen, and the escort party and the bearer party drawn from The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

Bringing up the rear of the procession, following His Majesty The King and members of the Royal Family, was a Blues and Royals marching detachment from The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment.

The procession marched at a pace of 75 steps per minute, which is specifically reserved for funerals and ensures it keeps time with the slow pace of the gun carriage. Ordinarily troops would either do a slow march of 60 beats per minute, or a quick march of 110 beats per minute.

Arrival at Westminster Hall in the grounds of the Palace of Westminster

As Her Majesty arrived in Westminster, the coffin was carried in procession by a bearer party of The Queen’s Company, 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards from the gun carriage and placed on a raised platform, known as a catafalque, in Westminster Hall.

After a short service, the captain of The Queen’s Company 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, assisted by a senior sergeant, laid The Queen’s Company Colour, the royal standard of the regiment, on the steps of the catafalque at the south end.

Lying In State and the Vigil

A continuous vigil will be kept by His Majesty’s Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms, assisted at times by The King’s Body Guard for Scotland (The Royal Company of Archers), The King’s Body Guard of the Yeomen of the Guard, assisted by The Body of Yeomen Warders of HM Tower of London, and by units of the Household Division.

Those units will include: The Household Cavalry, the Grenadier Guards, the Coldstream Guards, the Scots Guards, the Irish Guards and the Welsh Guards. Each period of 24 hours will be divided into four watches. Except for the first and last, each of the 20 watches will last for 6 hours. Within each watch, a Vigil will last for 20 minutes.

More than 320 military personnel from all three services took part in this ceremonial activity, including 170 military personnel from The Household Division in the procession.

The Gun Carriage

The gun carriage is known as the George Gun Carriage and carried King George VI’s coffin from Sandringham Church to Wolferton Station in February 1952. It was also used in the funeral of The Queen Mother in 2002.

Royal Salutes

The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery has six 13-pounder quick-fire guns, built between 1913 and 1918, all of which have seen active service in the First and Second World Wars. They are used regularly for royal salutes in Hyde Park, Green Park or Windsor Great Park for State Occasions and to mark royal anniversaries and royal birthdays. Each gun and limber weighs 1.5 tons and, with the team, is approximately 54 feet long.

This is a continuation of last night's series of dedications to flickr friends who I thought of while shooting photos last week en route to and at Cape Lookout & Harkers Island.

Doc contacted me shortly after I joined flickr to say that he enjoyed my coastal Carolina and historical photos. He noted that we had a lot of the same interests. We have met twice during my visits to the Wilmington area.

Doc researches his photo subjects and provides interesting captions. He also is a gifted photo editor, and does amazing work with textures and processing.

The CSS Neuse in Kinston NC reminded me of the type of site that Doc likes to photograph.

This Civil War ironclad was built for the purpose of retaking New Bern NC. The wooden construction began in the fall of 1862 at White Hall, which is now Seven Springs, NC.

A flat bottom boat that resembled a barge, it was one of 22 ironclad ships commissioned by the Confederacy.

The still incomplete ship was launched and floated to Kinston in 1863 to be outfitted with its guns and armor.

The ship had a crew of 80 men. The crew camped on the river bank while the officers stayed at homes in Kinston. It was a citizens venture - built and manned by local residents.

The ship started downstream towards New Bern in 1864 in a failed battle to retake the city, but was stranded on a sand bar for a month due to the low river. Once the river rose it returned to Kinston.

With the Confederacy nearing its end in the spring of 1865, its captain ordered it sunk to prevent it from falling into Union hands.

The boat remained on the river bottom for almost a century. An effort to raise it was initiated by local citizens in 1961, but it was not successfully raised till 1963.

Unfortunately the ship's current storage in an open air enclosure is leading to rapid deterioration of this piece of history.

Funding problems have prevented construction of an enclosed, environmentally controlled building for its long term preservation.

This piece of history is at significant risk of loss. It has survived over 140 years, but it may not be around much longer.

I think Doc could work wonders with this photo. It he would like to download and play around with textures and edits, I would like to see the end results.

Some were busy feeding, the youngsters were playimg around, the elder and mothers with youngsters were making the most of the water present and quenching their thirst.

This Buffalo was busy drinking water from the Dam whilst an Oxpecker was busy feeding off the Buffalo.

For me, visiting the great philosopher David Hume's impressive statue at the Royal Mile in Edinburgh completes a sort of "triad", the other two being Darwin's statue at the Natural History Museum in London and Turing's statue at Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes. All three have had groundbreaking legacies. It's funny to see the statue's toe polished and shiny, unlike the rest of it, because apparently tourists and newbie philosophers keep rubbing it for luck. Hume himself argued against superstition, so I hope the irony isn't lost on those people.

Royal Welcome Home in Winchester for 650 Troops of 11 Light Brigade

650 soldiers of 11 Light Brigade accompanied by three bands marched through the City of Winchester in a homecoming parade and were addressed by Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cornwall on 23 June. In glorious sunshine, an estimated crowd of 10,000 turned out to greet the troops who were representatives of the 5,100 men and women who made up 11 Light Brigade which served in Helmand province of Afghanistan from October 2009 to April 2010. This was the largest homecoming parade to date marking a national celebration for the return of the Brigade that was formed specifically for a six-month operational deployment to Afghanistan known as Operation Herrick 11. Each of the 12 regiments that formed the brigade were represented at the parade.

Following the parade the Duchess of Cornwall, the troops and accompanying guests attended a service, held in Winchester Cathedral, of thanksgiving and remembrance for the 64 soldiers killed in action.

Hampshire was home to 11 Light Brigade’s Headquarters in Aldershot. The brigade was made up of many different regiments and was unique in that it came into existence specifically for a tour of duty in Afghanistan to reduce pressure on other regiments that were being sent out increasingly frequently. Some of the units making up the Brigade were based in Hampshire but other regiments were based in Edinburgh, Chester, London and Germany. This was the final act of 11 Light Brigade before disbanding.

The parade was accompanied by the Bands of the Grenadier Guards, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and 3 Rifles.

The 12 regiments taking part in the parade were:

11 Light Brigade Headquarters Staff & 261 Signals Squadron

The Household Cavalry Regiment

1 Royal Horse Artillery

28 Engineer Regiment, The Royal Engineers

1st Battalion Grenadier Guards

1st Battalion Coldstream Guards

1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment

2nd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards)

1st Battalion The Royal Welsh (The Royal Welsh Fusiliers)

3rd Battalion The Rifles

11 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps

10 Queen's Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment.

The timetable was as follows:

Midday

650 troops from 11 Light Brigade, accompanied by three bands marched from St Cross Cricket Ground along Southgate Street into Winchester. The troops formed up in the Broadway outside the Guildhall where wounded personnel, family representatives of some of the 64 soldiers killed in action and relations of the seriously injured were waiting.

1.15 pm

The Duchess of Cornwall addressed the troops from a dais before carrying out an inspection.

1.40 pm

There was a fly past of two Tornado jets before the Parade turned left and marched around King Alfred’s statue back up the High Street to Winchester Cathedral.

3.00pm

There was a private Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance in Winchester Cathedral in recognition of the contribution and sacrifice of service personnel and their families on return from the conflict in Afghanistan. The cathedral service was for invited guests, all ranks, wounded personnel, family representatives of those killed in action and relations of the seriously injured who are unable to attend. Some 1,400 people attended the cathedral service and there was a private reception afterwards.

The brigade saw heavy fighting and took part in Operation Moshtarak, a major offensive against the Taliban.

Brigade Commander, Brigadier James Cowan, explained:

“Helmand is the most violent part of Afghanistan. Three of the four most violent districts in all of Afghanistan are in British Helmand. So it is a challenging area but one that I think we brought a measure of peace to.

During their tour 11 Light Brigade took part in Operation MOSHTARAK, the large multinational offensive to drive insurgents out of the Nad ‘Ali and Marjah areas of southern Helmand.

Brigadier Cowan said:

“The operation is widely viewed as a success, with ISAF forces now exerting greater influence in the region, denying the insurgents freedom of action and offering the local population the opportunity to build up civil institutions.”

The parade came the day after the news of the death of the 300th British soldier in Afghanistan since military operations began there.

The Duchess of Cornwall addressed the parade and said she was humbled and proud to be standing in front of them all. She said:

“Through all the adversity you have fought on with immense courage, displaying the highest level of dedication, loyalty and professionalism as you have gone about bringing stability and security to this troubled region.

You are all heroes and I salute you all for a job very well done.

You are an immense credit to your regiments, the brigade and to this country and you have proved once again that the British Army is the best in the world.

Although we are all here to celebrate your return the price has been extremely high. And I join you in mourning those 64 soldiers who are not here and who made the ultimate sacrifice during these past months.

My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to their families as they continue to come to terms with their agonising loss.

This national event, the biggest of its kind ever to be staged, is to commemorate the service and sacrifices of 11 Light Brigade."

She also spoke of the devastating number of casualties suffered in the brigade, several of whom were present in wheelchairs, and praised the extraordinary care they have received at Selly Oak Hospital and Headley Grange.

Among those the Duchess met, during a private reception, were the families of two soldiers who had died. She presented the families with the Elizabeth Cross which is given to the bereaved.

A Unique and 100% FREE Clean up & Preparation Service for Sellers of Vacant Homes

We deal in homes $40K and up, subject to safety inspection.

"Our goal is to help sustain or raise neighborhood values,

while making house hunting a safer and more rewarding environment for Realtors and buyers. We hope to help desperate home sellers prepare their homes for the market and avoid unnecessary heartache and fines. We believe our hard work and genuine passion for our company, will bring Realtors and homeowners the much needed solution to a very difficult problem. "

You are trying to decide if you should put your home up for short sale. You have left in a hurry, leaving no time to fix up the issues to get the home ready to be put on the market, nor do you have the time or the energy to put into a home you are being forced to sell. It could be the case you have finally been harassed and pushed over the edge by the bank and you just want out. The loan modification that once looked so hopeful isn't sounding nearly as appealing as it did on TV and you don't want to be in the same boat you're in at this moment, three, four, five or six years from now....Or you could be the unfortunate landlord left with a property that tenants have destroyed, fines continuing to pour in from the HOA and the city. Your agent keeps telling you the utilities must be on for a home to be inspected and you know that the majority of buyers will pay to have the home inspected before buying it.

It could be that today while driving down the block to pick up your children from school, you start to notice how every vacant home you see has broken windows, overgrown grass, or green pools. You fear squatters may claim your home, you have already heard about the vandals stripping homes for copper, air conditioning units, cabinets and counter-tops. Not having these items, will make buyer s unable to qualify for an FHA loan - the most common type of financing - leaving you with even less options to sell.

Unfortunately what most sellers don't know is depending on the bank, no matter what anyone tells you, a short sale can take

12 months or more to close. Also, remember when you are signing the seller documents at closing the bank will make you sign forms agreeing to pay taxes on the difference between what your house sells for (short sale) and what you owe. This can be pricey, meaning it's better to obtain a higher offer for the home you are selling.

So what do you do next? You are the homeowner that has the 3 bedroom 2 bathroom in a quaint little neighborhood that just needs cleaning, you cant afford to put the utilities on, and the pool is a mess. Good news my friend, your Guardian Angels have arrived. We deal in homes from $40k and up, and we pay all of the utilities and upkeep on the home while it is on the market.

Here at Vacant Home Rescue, we are not waiting for the market to improve itself, we believe the start of seeing a change in the market, is getting sellers the best offer they possibly can on their homes. If it sounds too good to be true, it's not. The service is 100 % FREE for sellers. After agreeing that we can work out a way to help your home, we transfer the utilities into the company's name, we then take a list of much needed repairs including paint touch ups and steam cleaning of your rugs, we assess any green pools or pools that need fill up and maintenance. If pest control is needed we handle it, all at our cost. We then assign a Guardian Angel to watch over your home, keeping it show ready the entire time it is on the market. Your Angel will carry their own renters insurance covering the value of the home, personal liability, water/property damage, slip and fall, fire and flood. The homeowner as well as our company will be listed on the policy in case something is damaged and left for repair. For your peace of mind, your Angel is fully screened and background checked. Your Angel will not be classified as a tenant and will not have any pets. Your Angel only needs 15 minutes' notice for all showings so they can take a walk, leaving behind snacks and ice water for your buyers. Your Angel also agrees to random weekly home checks every week by their area director. Your Angel will cover all of the utilities and keep the home's front yard looking fantastic.

The value of using Vacant Home Rescue's FREE service, comes in the care the company and our Guardian Angels have for homeowners and listing agents. The good of the seller is what really counts and to throw our weight behind something that will improve the condition of the housing market in Arizona, albeit one house, one neighborhood at a time, is an extremely rewarding ethic. We want to be part of the overall solution to seeing a change in the market, while building our own organization on goodwill, hard work, and dedication to our home sellers.

This Budd RDC car has probably been sitting in this location since December, and will soon be used for the Springtime runs of the Hobo Railroad. The Hobo uses the former Boston and Maine tracks between Lincoln and Woodstock to provide passenger excursions and information about the railroads history.

For the first time since 2009, the Oscar Smith Tigers have won a season opener against an out-of-state opponent.

It certainly hasn’t hurt the Tigers, because they’ve made it to the state championship game each of the last three seasons. This win means that they still have a shot at an undefeated season.

Oscar Smith elected to defer after winning the coin flip, meaning that they kicked off to the Titans to start the game. On the first play from scrimmage, West Forsyth running back G’mone Wilson had the ball stripped from him at the Titan 20.

With less than two minutes into the game, Tigers running back Joe Bray barreled off tackle to the left to score on a 6-yard touchdown run the start the scoring.

Enabled by a few key penalties, the Titans were able to sustain a drive that resulted in a short touchdown pass over the middle that tied the score at 7.

Oscar Smith shrugged off the West Forsyth touchdown and scored their second touchdown on an Aaron Acevedo 4-yard run. The Tigers scored again on a Cam’Ron Kelly keeper in the second quarter and went into the locker room at halftime with a 21-7 lead.

The third quarter took what seemed like an eternity. Oscar Smith added a 24-yard Austin Benoit field goal and the game was looking out of reach for the Titans at 24-7. After another failed Titan drive, the Tigers started their second drive of the second half near their 20. A fumbled hand off by Kelly was scooped by defensive end Jaden Pledger and he scored on the return of 18 yards, making the score 24-13 after the point after snap was misfired.

Smith answered with one of Cam’Ron Kelly’s many brilliant passes on the day, this one a high-pointed, fingertip catch by wide out Jarius Howard for a 38-yard touchdown. Austin Benoit added another field goal before the end of the quarter to extend the Tiger lead to 34-13.

West Forsyth outscored Oscar Smith 13-7 in what amounted to garbage time in the fourth quarter in order finish with a 41-26 loss that wasn’t as close as the scoreboard would indicate.

Cam’Ron Kelly finished the game with five completed passes in nine attempts with 146 yards and a touchdown, plus he added 40 yards rushing and a touchdown. The scoring was well distributed for the Tigers with Joe Bray getting touchdown runs of six yards and 12 yards. Aaron Acevedo scored on a four-yard run.
