A ‘Grand Opening’ party was held at Proton Tattoo Studio, 120 S. 4th St., near downtown DeKalb, Illinois on February 26th, 2010. From noon to 9:00 p.m. the shop was open to the public for the first time, and in celebration owners Chris May and Jon Bowman
...arranged for the community to come eat free pizza from Dough Brothers as well as take part in gift certificate, t-shirt, and tattoo give-away opportunities, all the while getting to know the new shop and its seven resident artists.

Following the nineteen-year tattoo ban that was lifted this past September 29th, 2009, in the city of DeKalb, the area has become home to three new tattoo parlors including the currently operational Proton Tattoo Studio. Owners Chris May and Jon Bowman were born and grew up in DeKalb, making the establishment of a shop an extremely meaningful venture for the both of them.
